2.0 DESCRIPTION
The information in this manual covers the installation and operation of the RB24,
RB115, RB24/220 and RB220 Relay Boxes.
The RB24, RB115, RB24/220 and RB220 Relay Boxes are designed to increase
the operating distance between control units and pan/tilts and scanners. Installing a
relay box between the control and the pan/tilt or scanner extends the effective oper-
ating distance (control to relay box) up to a maximum of 13,000 feet (3,962 m) when
using 16 Awg wiring.
The RB24, RB115, RB24/220 and RB220 are designed to be cost-efficient be-
cause they allow the use of smaller gauge wire. Reliable, trouble-free operation is
insured through solid-state circuitry, long-life relays, and rugged weatherproof con-
struction.
The clearly marked terminal block allows easy installation even for inexperienced
installers. The terminal block is accessed through adjustable weatherproof cable
glands. The relay boxes will accept either stripped wire or lugs, and no special
connectors are required.
The RB115 is designed for use in installations with a 24 VAC control and 120 VAC
pan/tilts and scanners; the RB24 is for use with a 24 VAC control and 24 VAC pan/
tilts and scanners; the RB24/220 is the same as the RB24, except for 230 VAC line
voltage input; the RB220 is designed for use in installations with a 24 VAC control
and 230 VAC pan/tilts and scanners.

3.0 INSTALLATION
3.1 WALL MOUNTING
To attach the mount directly onto the wall, perform the following steps:
1. Determine the location where the relay box is to be installed. First, consider
the distance from the control to the pan/tilt or scanner and determine what
gauge wire should be used (See Table A and Figure 3). Secondly, be sure that
120 VAC line voltage is available. (If you’re installing the RB24/220, or RB220
be sure the availability of 230 VAC.) Finally, the distance between the relay
box and the pan/tilt should not exceed the distance specified for the gauge of
wire used.
2. Using the relay box as a template, mount the box at the desired location using
fasteners that will support the full load of the unit (not supplied).
Proceed to Section 3.2 WIRING THE RELAY BOX
3.2 WIRING THE RELAY BOX
1. Open the lid on the relay box. Looking into the open box, from the gland con-
nectors, route the cable from the control through the left gland connector and
the cable from the pan/tilt or scanner through the middle gland connector.
2. Strip the outer jacket of the cable back 3" and the individual conductors back
1/4" each.
3. Attach the individual conductors to the proper terminals as noted in Figure 2.
4. Tighten the gland connectors around the cables and reattach the lid.
5. Complete the cable connections at the control and pan/tilt or scanner accord-
ing to the instructions supplied with each unit.
6. Plug the relay box into the appropriate 120 or 230 VAC line voltage.
NOTE:
When installing the relay box
on a wall outdoors, seal the bolt holes
with an appropriate sealant. Apply the
sealant around the bolt holes be-
tween the relay box and the mount-
ing surface. This will prevent possible
water damage to the wall caused by
rain water leaking through the mount-
ing bolt holes. (This may only be a
problem when the mounting bolts go
completely though the wall.)
NOTE:
Refer to Table A and Figure
3 for recommended cable distances.
Refer to Table B for the type of video
coaxial cable to use. If the camera will
use 24 VAC power, refer to Table C to
determine the size of wire needed.
Refer to the camera/enclosure
manual for wiring information.

3.3 INSTALLING A REPLACEMENT PC BOARD
Care should be taken when installing a new PC board. Perform the following steps
to prevent damage to the PC board, upon restoration of power, when installing a
replacement PCB1500535ASSY (Rev. D) PC board in the RB24, RB115, RB24/220
Relay Boxes.
1. Disconnect power to the relay box.
2. Refer to Figure 4. Disconnect the 115 VAC IN plug to the transformer and
disconnect the PAN/TILT OUT, and 24 VAC CONTROL IN connections.
3. Unscrew the three (3) screws attaching the PC board to the relay box and
remove the old PC board. Save the screws and lock washers to attach the new
PC board.
4. Remove the new PC board from the static bag.
5. Refer to Figure 5. Install the top screw first (located near C6). Install the PC
board by putting a lock washer and nylon washer on a screw and inserting it
through the hole in the PC board. Then put a nylon washer under the PC
board and tighten the screw into the standoff as needed. Do not over tighten.
Insert the screws in the bottom holes in the PC board and tighten until firmly
attached.
6. Reconnect the 24 VAC CONTROL IN and PAN/TILT OUT connections, and
the 115 VAC IN plug to the transformer. Reconnect power to the relay box.
CAUTION:
Failure to dis-
connect power will expose
you to a risk of electric shock.
CAUTION:
It is important,
when screwing down the
PCB1500535ASSY (Rev. D)
PC board to the relay box,
that you use the provided
nylon washers between the
screw, PC board and top
metal standoff.
CAUTION:
Failure to use
nylon washers when attach-
ing the PC board to the top
metal standoff will result in
a short condition damaging
the PC board.
