Chapter 2 Installing Your MegaRAC G2
Lite Card
Before You Start
Avoid Electro-Static Discharge (ESD)
Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) can damage the MegaRAC G2 Lite card and other
system components. Keep your MegaRAC G2 Lite card in its anti-static bag until it is
to be installed. Avoid contact with any component or connector on any adapter card,
printed circuit board, or memory module. Handle these components by the mounting
bracket.
Perform all unpacking and installation procedures on a ground-connected anti-static mat.
Wear an anti-static wristband grounded at the same point as the anti-static mat. You can
also use a sheet of conductive aluminum foil grounded through a one megaohm resistor
instead of the anti-static mat. Similarly, a strip of conductive aluminum foil wrapped
around the wrist and grounded through a one megaohm resistor serves the same purpose
as a wristband.
MegaRAC G2 Lite Installation and Setup
Use the following steps to install the MegaRAC G2 Lite card into the host system.
Step Action
1 Unpack the MegaRAC G2 Lite card (and check jumper settings)
2 Install the MegaRAC G2 Lite card into the host system and attach internal cables
3 Connect external cables
4 Connect to the MegaRAC G2 Lite from a client system
5 Load the MegaRAC G2 Lite SDK file for your server board model (OEM version
feature)
Note: Inspect the cardboard carton for obvious damage.

MegaRAC G2 Lite MAC Address
Your MegaRAC G2 Lite card has a unique MAC address. The MAC address is the only
way to distinguish one MegaRAC G2 Lite card from another when you run programs
such as WinFlash and RMSeek. You can write down your MegaRAC G2 Lite card’s
MAC address in the table below or in Appendix F, MAC Address Map. See the first line
for an example.

Note: This jumper is not meant to remain shorted. Instead of using a jumper it is advisable to
use a switch that when pressed, temporarily shorts the connection. This switch is not
provided and can be designed as part of your hardware chassis.
JP3 Recovery and Discovery Mode Jumper
This jumper is primarily used to recover a failed flash attempt. By shorting pins one and
two, you can place your MegaRAC G2 Lite card into Diagnostics Mode. By shorting pins
two and three, you can place your MegaRAC G2 Lite card into Recovery Mode. See
Appendix C, WinFlash.exe for more information on how to recover your MegaRAC G2
Lite card. By default, pins one, two and three are open.

Step 2 Install the MegaRAC G2 Lite Card into the Host System and Attach
Internal Cables
Physically install the MegaRAC G2 Lite card into the host system.
Attach the optional MegaRAC G2 Lite feature connector to the motherboard.
Attach the optional feature connector to the motherboard and chassis Reset
connector.
Attach the optional feature connector to the motherboard and chassis Power
connector.
Attach the optional feature connector to the motherboard IPMI connector.
Note: IPMI support is an OEM version feature.
Note: The optional MegaRAC G2 Lite feature connector cable must be custom made for your
specific configuration. Contact American Megatrends (hardware sales department) for
specific pin out details needed to make this cable or see Appendix A, MegaRAC Feature
Cable for pin out details
Chapter Two : Installing Your MegaRAC G2 Lite Card
7
Step 3 Connect External Cables
Connect the null modem cable from the back of the MegaRAC G2 Lite card to the
motherboard’s serial port. A null modem cable does not ship with the MegaRAC
card. The null modem connection is only used for “Serial Over LAN” redirection.
Connect the RJ45 LAN cable from your local network.
Connect the optional serial modem cable (mini 8-pin DIN to 9-pin serial connector)
to the MegaRAC G2 Lite card. Plug the mini 8-pin DIN side of the cable into the
MegaRAC card and plug the 9-pin serial connector to your external serial modem.
Connect your AC adapter. (The AC adapter is an optional component.)
Note: The mini 8-pin DIN to 9-pin serial connector cannot be used with a serial modem until
the support is added in the MegaRAC G2 Lite software. Currently, serial modem support
is not available, but is referenced in this document for when it does become available.

Step 4 Connect to the MegaRAC G2 Lite from a Client System
In order to connect to the MegaRAC G2 Lite card, you must access the MegaRAC card
from another system on the same network or attached network. This document refers to
this other system as the client system. To do this, you must know the MegaRAC card’s IP
address. If you have installed the MegaRAC card on a network that uses DHCP, you can
search the network for the MegaRAC card. To locate and find out its IP address, you
must install and run RMSeek.
Note: To get or set the IP address on your MegaRAC G2 Lite card in a Windows 2000/XP
environment, you can also run the RMConfigApp program on the host system. See
Appendix B, WinCuri, LinCuri, and RMConfigApp for more information on how to use
the RMConfigApp program.
Follow the steps in the table below to connect to the MegaRAC card from a client
system:
Step Description
1
RMSeek.exe
On a local network computer, place the MegaRAC™ CD into the CD-ROM drive. Locate the RMSeek
program on your MegaRAC™ CD disc. It is located in the following directory:
CDROM\RemoteTools\Win32\RMSeek.exe
Run the RMSeek program by double left clicking on it.
2 Left click on the Next button when you see this screen.

6 If the IP range is correct, RMSeek will locate the MegaRAC G2 Lite card. It will list all MegaRAC cards
it has discovered.
Note: If more than one MegaRAC G2 Lite card is found, you can distinguish them by the MegaRAC
G2 Lite card’s name. The MegaRAC G2 Lite card’s name consists of the words G2LITE and
the IP address of the MegaRAC G2 Lite card’s NIC.

Left click the OK button. After you successfully log into your MegaRAC G2 Lite card, you are greeted
with the Welcome to MegaRAC G2 Lite screen.
Note: The default user name and password are in lower-case characters.
Note: When you log in using the default user name and password, you have full administrative
powers. It is advised that once you log in, you change your user name and password. See the
Administrator Setup subsection under the MegaRAC G2 Lite
Configurations section in Chapter
Four, Using Your MegaRAC G2 Lite.
