1.1 IMPORTANT
The AutoJet® 63600A Automac Air Atomizing Manifold and all components are produced, tested, and checked at the
factory. The system can be dangerous if used incorrectly. Read this manual carefully and pay aenon to any safety
instrucons.
Operators must always follow the general safety instrucons in the working area and aim to prevent accidents.
The manufacturer reserves the right to make changes in standard construcon without prior nocaon.
Images and diagrams in this manual may not be exact representaons of the system conguraon.
1.2 HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL
This manual is intended to be a source of informaon for the operators and technicians who may be installing,
interacng with, or servicing/maintaining Spraying Systems Co.® systems and components.
This manual contains important safety warnings, installaon instrucons, operang instrucons, troubleshoong, and
maintenance informaon.

2.1 GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
READ AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS
All safety related and operang instrucons should be read before the system is operated. Follow all operang in-
strucons.
SERVICING
Do not aempt to service this system unless you have been trained or authorized to conduct repairs. Only authorized
and qualied service personnel should aempt to service this system. Service by unauthorized personnel will void
any warranes.
WARNING: Before performing any maintenance, make sure electrical power is o and that any air
and liquid pressure is bled from the system.
REPLACEMENT PARTS
This system has been designed with components that work together to provide the best system performance. When
replacement parts are required, only Spraying Systems Co.® recommended components should be used to maintain
proper system operaon, electrical and pneumac safety. The use of any unauthorized replacement parts will void
any warranes.
UNINTENDED USE
Use of Spraying Systems Co.® equipment in ways other than those described in the documentaon supplied with
the equipment may result in injury to persons or damage to property. Examples of unintended use of equipment:

Using incompable materials
Making unauthorized modicaons
Removing or bypassing safety guards or interlocks
Using incompable or damaged parts
Using unapproved auxiliary equipment
Operang equipment in excess of maximum rangs
REGULATIONS AND APPROVALS
Make sure all equipment is rated and approved for the environment in which it is used. Any approvals obtained for
Spraying Systems Co.® equipment will be voided if instrucons for installaon, operaon, and service are not followed.
All phases of equipment installaon must comply with federal, state, and local codes.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Spraying Systems Co. strongly recommends the use of appropriate safety equipment when working in potenally
hazardous environments or with potenally hazardous chemicals. This safety equipment includes, but is not limited to,
the following:
Protecve hat
Safety glasses or face shield
Chemical-resistant safety gloves and apron
Long sleeve shirt and long pants
Users of this product should never place themselves in the path of the resulng spray. Users should consult and follow
the recommendaons of the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) of any chemical oruid sprayed using this system.
PRESSURIZED SYSTEMS
It is important to recognize proper safety precauons when using a pressurized spray system. When dealing with
pressure applicaons, the system pressure should never exceed the lowest rated component. Always know the system
and all component capabilies, maximum pressures, and ow rates.
WARNING: Fluids under pressure can penetrate skin and cause severe injury.
ATTENTION: Always remember to carefully read the chemical manufacturer's labels and SDS and
follow all direcons.
WARNING OF SHOCK HAZARD
To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not open the cover on electrical control panel. For service contact
Spraying Systems Co.® at 1-866-321-2250.
WARNING: Plug panels into a GFCI outlet.
WARNING: To prevent injury, avoid contact with potenally hot parts. Components can cause severe
burns. Do not aim the spray at any person or part of the body. Do not place any part of your body in
the spray paern.
2.2 UNPACKING THE SYSTEM
The system components come carefully packaged to protect them from damage. Use cauon when opening the crate.
The crate will contain all parts needed to install the unit. Parts of the unit may be wrapped in bubble wrap. Remove all
of the packaging material wrapping the system. Once unpacked and removed the from the crate, the system is ready
for installaon and connecon.
CAUTION: The packaging may contain exposed cables, hoses, or other components. Always exercise
cauon when opening boxes to avoid accidental damage or slicing of various components.

The 63600A Series of automac air atomizing manifolds is a system of customizable manifolds of nozzles for spraying a
multude of liquid materials, including paints and lacquers, greases, release agents, corrosion prevenves, adhesives,
and ceramic glazes. A complete nozzle assembly consists of a uid nozzle and air cap installed into a body which is per-
manently axed to a manifold weldment.
Addionally, the 63600A manifolds are specically designed to also spray a wide variety of food ingredients, such as
oils, syrups, slurries, chocolate, and peanut buer. The 63600A manifolds operate on the principle of pneumac atomi-
zaon (also commonly referred to as 2-uid atomizaon), where liquid is discharged from the nozzle orice and then
atomized with compressed air, nitrogen, steam, or other pressurized gas. The spray paern is then further shaped by
paern or fan air, which impinge on the atomized spray. The 63600A manifolds of automac nozzles are air controlled,
operang in conjuncon with a 3/2-way control valve.
The 63600A manifolds are provided with an integrated hot water jacket for uid temperature control. The manifolds
contain only food grade materials of construcon and are type 316 stainless for corrosion resistance. The manifolds are
provided equipped with either Type J or Type VMA air atomizing set-ups. Manifolds may be eld converted from one
nozzle system to the other.
Manifolds can alternavely be constructed in a radial (“deadhead”) or recirculang arrangement. The liquid volume is
ulmately controlled by the nozzle orice size and supply pressure, however the nozzles are supplied with an adjusng
knob for individual control. The adjusng knob throles the orice from fully open to completely closed.
3.1 AIR CONTROL
The 63600A manifolds are available with or without integrated air control. When equipped, the nozzle will shut-o the
atomizing and fan air when closed. Actuaon of the control valve directs air into the cylinder chamber of the nozzle so
as to open, in sequence, the atomizing and fan air, followed immediately by the liquid. Upon closing the control valve,
this process is then reversed: the cylinder air will discharge, and the piston spring will shut-o the liquid, followed im-
mediately by the atomizing and fan air.
For nozzles without integrated air control, an external control valve must be provided by the user for shung o the
atomizing and fan air supply. It is suggested by Spraying Systems Co. that a short ancipaon and following ming be
applied to the air supplies relave to the nozzle control valve in order to ensure complete atomizaon of the liquid.
Simultaneous actuaon may result in dripping or sping at the beginning or end of the spray cycle.
The manifolds have independent fan and atomizing air supply feeds, and these air pressures must be controlled via ex-
ternal regulators. For J-Style nozzles, the fan air supply is unused.

Manifold inlets are provided standard with NPT threads. BSPT threaded blocks are available on request. When so pro-
vided, all references to NPT threads in these instrucons may be substuted for the equivalent BSPT thread.

Securely aach the manifold to equipment framing or other structure that will bear the weight of the manifold. Be
sure to account for the added weight of the uid to be sprayed and the jacket water (if used).
4.1 AIR AND FLUID HOSES
Use only ltered, non-lubricated air for atomizing (“AIR”) and fan (“FAN”) air supplies. These connecon ports are 1/2”
NPT(f). Cylinder (“CYL”) air may be lubricated or non-lubricated. It is recommended the cylinder air supply be regulat-
ed separately from the atomizing air supply. The cylinder port is 1/8” NPT(f). For best performance, the control valve
for the cylinder air should be ed as closely as possible to the manifold inlet. Longer distances will result in slower
nozzle response. When using a Type J set-up, install a 1/2" NPT plug into the FAN connecon port.
For fan and atomizing air supply, minimum 5/8” OD (16mm) tubing is recommended. 1/4” OD (6mm) tubing is recom-
mended for the cylinder air supply. Measure air supply pressure as close to the manifold block as possible for most
accurate reading of nozzle pressure.
When so constructed, the liquid supply is designed to recirculate through the manifold. Either side may be used as
supply or return. For deadhead operaon, install a 1” sanitary cap onto the liquid return port.
CAUTION: The manifold must be grounded to dissipate any electrostac charges which may be creat-
ed by air or uid ows. This can be achieved through the mounng of the manifold or through the
use of conducve piping/hoses. Electrical bond from the manifold to ground should have a re-
sistance of less than 106 Ohms.

5.1 SET-UP
1. Check that the cylinder end cap is properly ghtened.
2. Loosen the adjusng screw such that approximately a ¼gap is present between the end cap and the knob.
3. Loosen the retaining ring slightly and align the air cap to the desired orientaon. Tighten the retaining ring by
hand. Do not use a wrench or other tools to ghten the retaining ring. Damage to the air cap and retaining ring
may occur.
5.2 START-UP
Always turn o air and liquid supply and relieve pressure when not in use. Flush clean if nozzle will be idle for a pro-
longed period of me.
Opmal spray height is 6” to 8” (15 20 cm) from surface. Nozzle should be posioned perpendicular to target.
1. Regulate the fan and atomizing air and liquid pressure to zero.
2. Actuate nozzle and increase the liquid pressure unl uid ows from the nozzle. If target owrate is desired, ad-
just liquid regulator and/or adjusng knob unl ow reaches target applicaon rate. Once set, actuate nozzle
closed.
3. Set atomizing air pressure to approximately 20 psi (1.4 bar) and acvate nozzle. Inspect spray paern and adjust
atomizing air pressure to desired drop size. If the spray is too ne, decrease air pressure. If the spray is too coarse,
increase air pressure.
4. Slowly turn up fan air pressure unl desired paern is achieved.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Remove air cap and clean. If any holes are clogged, clear out with a so-bristle brush or toothpick. Never use metal
wire or picks to clean any nozzle orice.
Check that the uid nozzle is clean and free of any damage or debris. Build-up of material or damage to the uid nib
can distort the spray paern.
REPLACEMENT OF PARTS
Remove the retaining ring and air cap from the gun.
Unscrew the adjusng knob and remove the liquid spring. The uid nozzle can now safely be removed. NOTE: Always
remove spring pressure from uid nozzle before removing. Unscrewing the nozzle under load can damage the uid
nozzle and/or needle, leading to dripping or leaking when the gun is shut-o. Remove the needle, and unscrew the end
cap to remove the main spring.
CAUTION: The needle may be sharp and can puncture skin. Always handle shut-o needles with care.
Inspect the needle bushing and replace if necessary by unclipping it from the side.
Thread the adjusng screw into the back of the piston and pull to remove from gun body. Inspect the lip seals and re-
place if necessary. Note the orientaon of the seals: the Uof the larger lip seal should face towards the nozzle, while
the smaller seal should face towards the back of the gun.
The air valve plungers can now be removed from the sides of the piston. It is advisable to replace the air plunger o-
rings whenever the gun is disassembled. Remove the seal cartridge with a 9/16 (14mm) deep-well socket. The seal car-
tridge cannot be serviced, so if worn, replace enrely. Tighten the new cartridge between 10 to 12 -lbs (13.5 to 16
Nm). Apply a thin layer of o-ring lubricant or petroleum jelly to the air plunger o-rings and the piston seals. Align air
valve plungers with their respecve holes and push the plunger assembly into place. Wipe away any excess lubricant
from the gun body.
Apply a thin coang of an-seize lubricant to the threads of the air module and replace the air spring and end cap. The
end cap need only be hand-ghtened. Ensure the needle bushing is properly installed on needle. Apply a thin layer of
lubricant to the needle and install needle through the end cap, piston, and seal cartridge. Replace the liquid spring and
adjusng screw.
