Where to set up your router for optimal results?
Ideally,youshouldplaceyourrouterinthemiddleofanopen,well-ventilatedareatopreventthedevice
from overheating. If your computers are upstairs, and your router on the ground floor, then place
yourrouterinanelevatedposition.Keepyourrouterawayfromconcrete,glassandmetalobjects,
whichinterferewithradiowaves,andawayfromwirelessphonesandmicrowaveovens,whichoperate
at the same 2.4 GHz frequency as your router. Other outside sources of interference, such as the
neighbour’s router, may also affect your router’s signal.
Router channel setting
Typicallyrouterswillautomaticallychoosetherightchannel,butyoucanstillcheckwhetherit’sthe
bestone.Todoso,usefreesoftwareprogramsthatareavailableonlinetogetalistofthesurrounding
Wi-Finetworksandtofindthechannelwiththeleasttraffic,whichyoucanthensetyourrouterto.

•ChooseoneofthetwoWi-Finetworksasindicatedundertherouter,usually
”VideotronXXXX” (2.4GHz) or ”VideotronXXXX_5GHz” (5GHz).
•TheWirelessNetworkWizardwillpromptyouforthenetworkkey.Enterthenetworkkey
as it appears on the bottom of the router.
•RepeatthisprocessforeveryWi-Ficomputerordevicethatyouwanttoconnectto
the Internet.
