Becausesomepainttypesmaybeaggressivetothepolyurethaneinthetransducer,consultourlistof
approvedpaints.
Context
Thetransducerhasnotbeendesignedwithanyprotectionagainstbiologicalfouling.Anti-foulingpaint
maythereforebeappliedtothetransducerface.Tominimizethenegativeacousticaleffectsthelayerof
anti-foulingpaintmustbeasthinaspossible.
Note
Theanti-foulingpaintwillreducetheacousticalperformanceofthetransducer .Thesurfaceroughness
ofthetransducersubstrateandthethicknessofthepaintmayalsoinuencetheperformance.

Procedure
1Cleanthetransducerthoroughly.
Makesurethatyouremovealloilgreaseresidues,aswellassaltandothercontamination.
2Allowthetransducersurfacetodry.
3Abradethetransducersurfaceusingasandingpaperwith240inchgritsize.
Donotexceedasurfaceroughness(Rmax)of35micronsasthiscaninuencethetransducer
performance.
4Removealldust.
5Applytheprimer,andletitdry.

6Applythepaint.
Observetheinstructionsprovidedbythepaintmanufacturer.Useairlessspray.Applythe
minimumspeciedlmthicknesspercoatandforthecompletelayer.Itisnotpossibletomeasure
drylmthicknessontransducersurface.Youmustthereforeuseawetlmgaugetofrequently
measurethepaintthickness.
Note
Westronglyrecommendthatyoudonotuseapaintbrushand/oraroller .
7Allowthepainttodry.
Furtherrequirements
Thecontractororshipyardmustkeepadailypaintlogrecordingallrelevantinformationfromthe
surfacetreatment.
