6: 12-day conditioning
Every 12 days and only if battery voltage is below 12.8 V, the battery charger
switches back to phase 1 in order to revive the battery and prevent any fatigue
symptoms such as sulphation. If battery voltage is over 12.8 V, the battery charger
switches back to phases 2 to 4 for 85 minutes and switches then to phase 5.
7.2 Battery charger modes
The device has three battery charger modes:
•
Master mode with battery sensor connected
•
Autonomous mode without a battery sensor connected
•
Slave mode
In master mode with battery sensor connected, the values for voltage, current and
temperature are received from battery sensor (IBS). These values are used during the
whole charging cycle.
In autonomous mode without a battery sensor connected, the charging parameters
are set by using the battery type selector button (chapter “Selecting the battery
type” on page 19).
In slave mode, the SMP439 detects a master device via the LIN1/LIN2 connection
socket and follows the received values.
7.3 Selecting the battery type
In order to select the battery type, no accessories or additional appliances shall be
connected.
