designedto automatically supply electrical powerto operate critical loads
during a utility powerfailure.
Thisunit isfactoryinstalledin anall-weather,acousticalmetalenclosure
that is intendedexclusivelyfor outdoorinstallation.This generatorwill
operateusingeitherliquidpropanegas(LPG)or naturalgas(NG).

Forsafetyreasons,CARRIERrecommendsthat theinstallation,initialstart
upandmaintenanceofthis equipmentiscarriedoutbya Dealer.
Theengineexhaustfumescontain carbonmonoxide,whichcan be
DEADLY.This dangerousgas, if breathedin sufficientconcentrations,
cancauseunconsciousnessorevendeath.Thisexhaustsystemisfactory
installed,in strictcompliancewithapplicablecodesandstandards.You
must do nothing that might render the system unsafe or in
noncompliancewith suchcodesandstandards.
Keephands,feet,clothing,etc.,awayfromdrivebelts,fans,andother
movingor hotparts.Neverremoveanydrivebeltorfanguardwhilethe
unitisoperating.
Adequate,unobstructedflowof coolingandventilatingair iscriticalto
correctgeneratoroperation.Donotaltertheinstallationor permiteven
partialblockageofventilationprovisions,asthiscanseriouslyaffectsafe
operationofthegenerator.ThegeneratorMUSTbeinstalledoutdoors.
Whenworkingonthisequipment,remainalertat alltimes.Neverworkon
theequipmentwhenyouarephysicallyor mentallyfatigued.
Inspectthe generatorregularly,and contact yournearestCARRIER
Dealerforpartsneedingrepairor replacement.
Beforeperformingany maintenanceon the generator,disconnectits
batterycanesto preventaccidentalstartup.Disconnectthecablefrom
thebatterypostindicatedbya NEGATIVE,NEGor(-) first. Reconnectthat
cablelast.
Neverusethegeneratororanyofitspartsasastep.Steppingontheunit
canstressandbreakparts,andmayresultindangerousoperating
conditionsfromleakingexhaustgases,fuelleakage,oilleakage,etc.
ELECTRICALHAZARD
All generatorscoveredby this manualproducedangerouselectrical
voltagesandcan causefatal electricalshock.Utility powerdelivers
extremelyhighand dangerousvoltagesto thetransferswitchasdoes
thestandbygeneratorwhenit is in operation.Avoidcontactwith bare
wires,terminals,connections,etc.,whiletheunit isrunning.Ensureall
appropriatecovers,guardsand barriersarein placebeforeoperating
thegenerator.Ifyoumustworkaroundanoperatingunit, standon an
insulated,drysurfacetoreduceshockhazard.
Donot handleanykindof electricaldevicewhilestandingin water,
whilebarefoot,orwhilehandsorfeetarewet.DANGEROUSELECTRICAL
SHOCKMAYRESULT.
TheNationalElectricalCode(NEC)requiresthe frame and external
electricallyconductivepartsof the generatorto be connectedto an
approvedearthground.Localelectricalcodesalsomayrequireproper
groundingofthegeneratorelectricalsystem.
Afterthe homestandbyelectricalsystemhasbeeninstalledit will be
capableofcrankingandstartingat anytime whilein the"Auto"mode.
Whenthe unit startsin "Auto"the loadcircuitsaretransferredto the
STANDBY(generator)powersource.Topreventpossibleinjurywhenworking
on thesystemalwayssetthegenerator'sAuto/Off/Manualswitchto its
"OFF",removecontrolpanelfusesanddisconnectthestartingbattery.
Incaseofaccidentcausedbyelectricshock,immediatelyshutdownthe
sourceof electricalpower.If this is notpossible,attemptto freethe
victimfromtheliveconductor.AVOIDDIRECTCONTACTWITHTHEVICTIM.
Usea non-conductingimplement,suchasa ropeorboard,to freethe
victimfromtheliveconductor.Ifthevictimisunconscious,applyfirst aid
andgetimmediatemedicalhelp.
Neverwearjewelrywhen workingon this equipment.Jewelrycan
conductelectricityresultingin electricshock,or mayget caught in
movingcomponentscausinginjury.
A FIREHAZARDSA
Forfiresafety,thegeneratormustbeinstalledandmaintainedproperly.
Installationalwaysmustcomplywith applicablecodes,standards,laws
andregulations.Adherestrictlytolocalstateandnationalelectricaland
buildingcodes.Complywith regulationsthe OccupationalSafetyand
HealthAdministration(OSHA)has established.Also,ensurethat the
generatorisinstalledinaccordancewiththemanufacturer'sinstructions
and recommendations.Followingproperinstallation,do nothingthat
mightalterasafeinstallationandrendertheunitinnoncompliancewith
theaforementionedcodes,standards,lawsandregulations.
Keepa fire extinguishernearthegeneratorat all times.Extinguishers
rated"ABC"bythe NationalFireProtectionAssociationareappropriate
for useonthe standbyelectricsystem.Keepthe extinguisherproperly
chargedandbefamiliarwith itsuse.If youhaveanyquestionpertaining
tofireextinguishers,consultyourlocalfire department.
/_ EXPLOSIONHAZARDS/_
Donot smokearoundthe generator.Wipeup any fuel or oil spills
immediately.Ensurethat no combustiblematerialsare left in the
generatorcompartment,or on or near the generator,as FIREor
EXPLOSIONmayresult.Keepthe areasurroundingthegeneratorclean
andfreefromdebris.
Gaseousfluids suchas naturalgasandliquid propane(LP)gasare
extremelyEXPLOSIVE.Install the fuel supply systemaccordingto
applicablefuel-gascodes.Beforeplacingthe homestandbyelectric
systemintoservice,fuelsystemlinesmustbeproperlypurgedandleak
testedaccordingto applicablecode.Afterinstallation,youmustinspect
thefuelsystemperiodicallyforleaks.Noleakageis permitted.

It will be necessaryto payavisit toyourlocalmunicipaloffices
toapplyfor a buildingpermit.Buildingpermitsarenecessaryto
ensureproper installation, safety and adherenceto all local
building codespecifications.Thelocation and phonenumber
canbefoundin thegovernmentsectionofyourlocalphonebook.
Plan the locationof your generator.NOTE:Donot place the
generatordirectlyundera window.Selectan area outsideof
yourhomenearestyourincominggasservice.
Arrangefor installation of rigid gas piping (per local code
specifications)to the locationwhereyouintendto positionyour
generator.Fuelpipingshouldincludea fuel shut-off valve.The
termination of the rigid piping should be aligned with the
generatorfuel inletlocatedat therearofthecompartment.
Clearanarea5-1/2feetby5feetminimumofgrassandvegetation
to a depthof 5 inches.This includesthe distancethe generator
shouldbesetawayfromanystructure(3feet)and6 inchesbeyond
thewidthandlengthofthegeneratormountingpad(48"Lx24"W).
NOTE:Local codes may supercede these requirements.
Layblack poly-filmto coverthe area.
Fillthe areato groundlevelwith peagravelor crushedstone.
Placethe generator,which isattachedtothe mountingpad,on
theareayouhavejust prepared.
Drivean 8 ft. groundingrodinto thegroundto grade.
Attach oneendof the groundingstrap (No.12 AWGstranded
copperwire)togroundingrodandtheotherendtothegrounding
lug (locatedatrearcornerofunit). Makesuregroundingrodand
strap arenot exposedabovegroundlevel.(NEDcodeappliesto
groundingmethod.)
NOTE:Generatormodeswitch shouldbe placedin the"off"
position.Generator main line circuit breaker shouldbe
switchedto "off" or openposition.

Makethe connectionbetweenthe rigid fuel piping and the
generatorusingthesuppliedthreadedflexiblefuel line.Theflex
hoseshouldbestraight. Donotbendthe hosein placeof using
pipe elbows. Use a pipe sealant suitable for gaseousfuel
connections.Checkconnectionsfor leaksby openingmanual
fuel shut-off valve and swab or sprayconnectionswith soapy
water. If a leakexiststheareawill bubblewiththe presenceof
thesoapywater.
If a leakislocated,shutoff fuel, anddisconnectflexiblepiping.
Drythethreadedendsand reapplyanadequateamountof pipe
sealant. Reconnectflexible fuel line, open fuel supply and
recheckfor leaks.If leakstill exists,repeatstep9b.

Determinewherethe flexibleconduit will passthroughthe housefrom insideto outside.
Whenyouarecertainyouhaveclearanceoneachsideandwithinthewall, drill a small pilot
holethroughthewallto markthe location.
Usingaholesaw,drill a 1-3/4 inchdiameterhole inthe house'swall to allowthe conduit
tofit through.
Fromthe insideofthe house,feedtheendof the30-foot conduit(which is pre-wiredfrom
transferswitch)throughthewall to outside.
Removethe threadedlocknutfromthe conduitcoupling.

Removethe knockout in the lowerright cornerof the external
connectionbox.Fromtherearof theconnectionbox,feedwires
& 4 pin pluginto box.Slip the locknutoverwiresand plug and
tighten securely onto conduit coupling. Using appropriate Ground
fasteners,mountexternalconnectionboxoverpre-drilledholeto Screw
fully concealthe hole.Seal aroundthe hole andconduit with
silicone caulk from boththe inside and outsideof the home. Knockout
Also,caulkaroundthe sidesand top of the boxto seal the edgesto the siding orwall.
Connectwiresto lugs; Blackto black,white to white, and redto red.Torquenuts to 20
inilbs. Snaptogetherthe 4-pin plugconnector.Loosennut from groundinglugandattach
groundwire(green)fromconduit.Reinstallnut andtighten to 45 in/lbs.Reinstallinternal
coverplateand screw.Closecoverand installlock.Thiswiring iscomplete.
Theexternalconnectionboxmustbelockedto
ensuresafetyandtodiscouragetampering.

Locateautomatic transfer switch with built-in emergencyload centerwithin onefoot of
main distribution panel. The automatic
transferswitchwithbuilt-in loadcentercan
be located to the left or right of main
distribution panel. Hold transfer switch
against the mounting surface. Levelthe
transfer switch and mark the mounting
holes.Drill the appropriatesize pilot holes.
Mountautomatictransferswitchwith built-
in load center to mounting surface with
appropriatefasteners.

Removethe main electrical distribution panel cover.Remove
appropriatesizeknockoutfromthebottomorsideofthemainpanel.
(A2-footflexibleconduitis pre-wiredfromthetransferswitchwith
built-in load center.)Removethreaded lock nut from conduit
coupling.Feedall wiresthroughknockoutintomainpanel.Sliplock
nutoverwiresandtightensecurelyonconduitcoupling.Removethe
black(hot)wirefrom a circuit breakerthat protectsa circuit you

Wirenutthe blackwireto the matching
circuit lead wire from the emergency
circuit breakerfrom load centerin the
transferswitch.(Allcircuitwiresarecolor
coded and labeled for easy
identification). UL approved wire
Iocknutsareincludedininstallationkit.
Tracethe black (hot)wireyouhavejust
connectedbacktothe sameRomexcable(circuit)tofind itsmating
white(neutral)wire.Wirenutthiswiretothematchingcircuitnumber
onthewhite(neutral)wirecomingfromthe emergencyloadcenter.
Repeatthis processwith remainingcircuits to be poweredbythe
generator.
NOTE:Bothgroundedandungroundedconductorsfor eachcircuit
mustbereconnectedtothe emergencyloadcenterwiringusing
thesuppliedwireIocknuts.
Thechartbelowshowsthecircuitsprovidedin theloadcenter.

havebeendisconnectedtoaccommodatetheinsertionofthe40Amp
or70Ampdoublepolecircuitbreaker.Connectwhitewiretothemain
distributionpanelneutralbar.Connectgreenwireto mainelectrical
panelgroundbar.Connecttheblackandredwirestothe40 Ampor
70Ampdoublepolecircuitbreaker.
14. Recommendedbatteryisautomotivetype
Group 26 12V negative ground with
minimum350 CCAat 0° F (7 kW)or a
minimum525CgAat 0° F(10kW,13kW
and 16 kW).Thehold downclamp is
included. Connectpositive (+) (red)
cable to positive (+) battery post.
Connectnegative (-) (black) ground
cableto negative(-) batterypost.
WARNINGSetthegenerator'sAUTO/ OFF/ MANUALswitchto"OFF."
Turnoffutilitypowersupplyto thetransferswitch.If the AUTO/
OFF! MANUALswitchisnotsettoits"OFF"position,thegenerator
cancrankandstartassoonasthebatterycablesareconnected.
WARNINGIf theutilitypowersupplyisnotturnedoff,sparkingcan
occurat thebatterypostsandcauseanexplosion.
NOTE:Dielectricgreaseshouldbeusedonbatterypoststoaidin
thepreventionofcorrosion.
NOTE:In areaswheretemperaturesregularlyfall below10° F
(-12° O) it is recommendedthat a padtype batteryheater be
installedtoaid incoldclimatestarting.

Switchservicemaincircuit breakerto "on"orclosedposition.Switch
thecircuitbreakersintheemergencydistributionpaneltothe"on"or
closedposition.Switchthegeneratormainlinecircuitbreakertothe
"on"orclosedposition.Verifythat the40Ampor70Ampdoublepole
circuitbreakerthat was insertedinthe mainelectricaldistribution
panelisswitchedtothe"on"orclosedposition.Placegeneratormode
switch in the "AUTO"position.Verifythat fuel valveon rigid gas
piping isopen. Performstepsin Sections2.1through2.5 ofthe
Installation&Owner'sManualpriortotestingthesystem.
16.
Switchservicemaincircuit breakerto "off" or open position.This
simulatesthe lossof utility power.Thegeneratorshouldcrankand
start within 20 seconds. Loadtransfer shouldoccurwithin 10
secondsof generatorstart. To returnsystemto automaticmode,
switchservicemainbreakerto"on"orclosedposition.Thissimulates
thereturnof powerfromtheutility.Thegeneratorwill runfor a short
cooldownperiodof severalminuteswhiletheentiresystemstands
readyforthenextpoweroutage.
NOTE:Whenutilityvoltagesourceislostbythegenerator,the
systemsetlightwillflashrapidly.
17. A switch on the control
panel allowsyou to select
the day and time for the
systemtoexercise.Toselect
a time and dayof theweek
you must perform the ExerciserSwitch
following sequenceat that time. Verifythat the Auto/Off/Manual
switchissetto "AUTO'.'
Holddownthe"SetExercise]]me" switchuntil the generatorstarts
(approximately10seconds)andrelease.Thegeneratorwill startand
runforapproximatelytwelveminutesandthenshutdownon itsown.
Thegeneratorisnowsettoexerciseonthatdayandatthat timeevery
week. If thebatteryisdisconnectedfor anyreasontheexercisetime
mustbereset.NOTE:Untiltheexerciserisset,all thered LED'swill
flashintheAutoorManualmode.
