Before operating your printer, read this Quick Guide carefully
from cover to cover. Use this guide for reference.

Take the items and accessories shown above out of the carton.
Note

Remove the plastic bag and peel off the shipping tape from the printer.
After unpacking, keep all packing materials out of the reach of children.

The control panel consists of a display panel (LCD), three indicator lights
and eight function keys.
Indicator Lights
There are three indicator lights that the printer uses to alert you to the
following situations:
Indicator On Off Blinking
On Line The printer is ready
to receive data.
The printer cannot
receive data.
Going off-line.
Data Data is being stored
in the printer memo-
ry.
No data is stored in
the printer memory.
The printer is re-
ceiving and pro-
cessing data.
Message Engine error.
The printer requires
service.
No error. Recoverable error,
such as paper emp-
ty, paper misfeed,
etc.

Key Functions
Note
Press this key to switch between online and offline modes. The printer
must be online in order to receive data.
Press this key to resume printing after one of the following situations has
occurred:
- when a Paper Size Error occurs.
- when a Memory Overflow or Job Too Complex error occurs.
- when the LOAD XX message appears due to a paper size error.
Press this key in order to enter the mode for setting the paper size (when
the dial on the Tray1 is set to
User set
) and media type for Tray1. You can
only enter this mode when the printer is off-line.
The shift key performs various functions when pressed in combination with
the following other keys:
Menu key
: each menu will be displayed and rotated in reverse order.
Item key
: each item will be displayed and rotated in reverse order.
Select key
: each user selection value is displayed and rotated in reverse
order.
Press this key to enter the Menu mode when the printer is off-line. Press
this key repeatedly to display the Menu group in order.
Press this key to enter the Item mode when the printer is in the Menu
mode. Press this key repeatedly to display the items in order.
Press this key to enter the User Selection mode when the printer is in either
the Item mode or the Tray1 Paper Menu mode. Press this key repeatedly
to view the user selection values in order. Press and hold the
Select
key
in order to increase the value at high speed.
Press this key to save User Selection settings. This key can be pressed in
combination with the
Shift
key to cancel a job that is currently being pro-
cessed and to clear the data for a job from the printer’s memory. A job can
only be cancelled by using the
Enter/Job Cancel
key in combination with
the
Shift
key when the printer is off-line and when the Data indicator is ei-
ther on or blinking.
In order to cancel a job using the
Enter/Job Cancel
key through the proce-
dure described above, the printer must be off-line. You can force the printer
to go off-line by pressing the
On Line
key while printing.

Installing the Imaging Cartridge
Step 2
1.
Pull the side cover release lever
and open the side cover.
2.
Take the imaging cartridge out of
the carton.
Holding it with both hands, shake
it left and right, forward and
back.
3.
Carefully remove the packing tape that is adhered to the grips by pulling
from the bottom up.

4.
Align the green guides on the imaging cartridge with the slot bearing the
green seal located inside of the printer.

Insert the imaging cartridge as
far as it will go inside of the
printer.
6.
Close the side cover.

Loading Paper onto Tray1

1.
Slide open Tray 1.
2.
Press down on the paper lifting
plate located inside of tray 1 until
it clicks into place.
3.
Adjust the green clip to the
appropriate paper size by
squeezing its sides and sliding it
through the runner at the bottom
of the tray.
4.
Press the green button located
near the outer edge of the tray to
adjust the paper guides.

Load the proper size of paper
within the guides. The stack of
paper that is loaded onto the tray
should not exceed the maximum
level indicator (see illustration).
6.
Close Tray1 and set the size of
paper loaded in the tray on the
dial.
Note
Before setting the paper size, set the media type for Tray 1 through the
Tray 1 Paper Mode on the control panel.
When printing on envelopes and custom sized paper, it is necessary to set
the dial to
User Set
and then specify the paper size in the Tray1 paper
menu through the Control Panel.
Loading Paper onto Tray2
1.
Slide open Tray 2.
2.
Press down on the paper lifting
plate located inside of tray 2 until
it clicks into place.

If necessary, adjust the paper braces to the size of the paper to be loaded.
Use a phillip’s screwdriver to remove the braces from the tray. Be sure to
secure the braces into their new position using the screwdriver before pro-
ceeding to step 4.

Load the proper size of paper
within the braces. The stack of
paper that is loaded onto the tray
should not exceed the maximum
level indicator (see illustration).

Set the size of paper loaded in
the tray on the dial, and close
Tray 2.

Connecting the Power Cord

1.
Make sure that the printer’s
power switch is in the
O
(Off)
position.
2.
Connect one end of the power
cord that comes with the printer
to the power cord socket. Plug
the other end into a power outlet.
Turning the power OFF
Press the power switch to the
O
(Off) position to turn the printer off.
Note
DO NOT turn the power OFF while:
•printing
the printer is receiving data from the computer (the indicator on the con-
trol panel is blinking)
resetting the printer

Turning the power ON
After connecting the printer to a
power outlet, press the power
switch to the
I
(On) position.
In about 60 seconds, the READY
message is shown on the LCD
display, indicating that the printer
is ready to print.

Printing a Test Page
Step 6
1.
Turn the printer on.
Make sure that Letter-size paper
is loaded into the printer’s feeding
tray.
Make sure that the
READY
mes-
sage is shown on the LCD display.
2.
Press the
On Line
key to take
the printer off-line.
3.
Press the
Menu
key repeatedly
until the
TEST MENU
is found.
4.
Press the
Item
key once.

Turn the printer and the computer off.
2.
Connect one end of the interface cable to the parallel port of the computer.
3.
Connect the other end of the cable to the parallel connector on the back of
the printer. Secure the cable using the two clips on the parallel connector.

Install the printer driver to control printing from your computer.
You can install the printer driver for Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows
NT 4.0 from the Minolta PageWorks 25 Printer Drivers CD-ROM.
Follow the instructions described below and for more details, see the
User’s Manual that comes with your printer.
Windows 95/98
Installing from CD-ROM (Auto Run)
1. Turn on your computer and start up Windows 95/98.
2. Insert the
Minolta PageWorks 25 Printer Drivers
CD-ROM into your
computer’s CD-ROM drive.
3. The opening window automatically appears on the screen.
Click
PCL Driver
and follow the instructions.
After installing the printer driver, the
Minolta PageWorks/Pro 25
printer
icon appears in the
Printers
folder.
Note
Plug and Play installation
Make sure that the printer is connected to your computer with the parallel
interface cable.
1. Turn on the printer.
2. Turn on your computer and start up Windows 95/98.
3. At the
Update Device Driver Wizard
or
Add New Hardware Wizard
dia-
log box, make sure your printer name is displayed and click the
Next
but-
ton.
(If the Update Device Driver Wizard or Add New Hardware Wizard dialog
box does not appear, see “Auto Run”.)
If the auto run does not perform, double-click the
Install.exe
from the CD-
ROM. The opening window appears on the screen. Click
PCL Driver
and fol-
low the instructions that appear on your computer screen to complete the in-
stallation.
