Introduction
The following document will enable all technicians and Fitment Centres to successfully install the
TomTom LINK 510 device.
This document will provide the reader with a step by step guide on how to install and connect
the device on TomTom WEBFLEET.
Installation Guide
The following components will be in the LINK 510 box.
A Yellow LED - connection status indicator.
B Green LED - system status indicator.
C Connector (SMB) for optional external GSM antenna.
D Service/Update Mini-USB-cable connector.
E Power cable connector.
F Reset button.
G IO-Cable connector.
H Connector (SMB) for optional external GPS antenna.

The LINK 510 has the following functions and specifications:
Improved GPRS and GPS performance
• Better availability in areas with low field strength
• Two optional antennas (GSM and GPS)
• Due to a new design, one of the major causes of GPRS and/or GPS loss has been resolved

TomTom LINK 510 Installation Procedure
Before starting the installation of your TomTom LINK 510 make sure you have the following
things:
The Activation Code
The TomTom Link 510
The PRO 7100 with firmware version 10.537 or higher
A possible location for the unit has to be obtained.
The 510 unit must not be installed into any moving parts of the vehicle.
The 510 unit must not be able move on its own.
The TomTom LINK 510 unit must installed in line of site
The areas located in the vehicle can now, carefully, be disassembled.
(NB: Procedures of Installation Technical Bulletins must be applied)
The TomTom LINK 510 system is installed independently into vehicles and must not
be linked up to other Tracker systems. Technicians must ensure that the same location
and electrical supply circuits are not used to affect installations on vehicles fitted with
multiple Tracker products.
First you need to choose the correct position in which to install your LINK 510.
Take the following into consideration:
Do not expose the LINK 510 to direct sunlight and/or high temperature for long
periods to ensure proper operation.
To ensure GPS reception using the integrated GPS receiver, the top of the device must
not be obstructed by metal items. For more flexibility with regards to installation we
recommend using the external GPS antenna from TomTom Business Solutions.
To ensure GSM/GPRS reception using the integrated GSM/GPRS antenna, the LINK 510
must not be placed on or surrounded by metal items such as the vehicle’s coachwork
closer than 5 cm and the top side must not be obstructed by metal items. For more
flexibility with regards to installation we recommend using the external GSM antenna
from TomTom Business Solutions

NB: A Top side of the LINK 510 must not be obstructed by metal items.
B Keep minimum distance of 5 cm to metal items.
The electric supply circuitry can now be identified and obtained.
Must be a permanent 12V or 24V power source that never losses power at any
stage during the installation life of the TU.
Must be a charging power source that exceeds 13.1V in a12V-Vehicle and 26V in
a 24V-Vehicle.
The positive (Red) wire from the plug can now be connected to the obtained
power supply circuit.
NB: First connect the wires then insert the plug into the LINK 510. If you have
inserted the plug into the LINK 510 first, you must connect the GND wire before you
connect the PWR+ wire and the IGN wire.
NB: If you need to disconnect the wires while the 3-pin plug is plugged in the LINK
510 make sure you disconnect the GND wire last.
A suitable ignition source must be identified and obtained:
Ignition supply- must be an applied ignition circuit that must be a permanent and
an unregulated charging circuit. (Care must be taken not to mistake ignition for
accessory)
The ignition (Black) wire from the plug can now be connected to the obtained
ignition supply circuit.
A suitable earth point (negative source) must be identified obtained.
Must be a permanent and reliable negative source.
The negative (Brown) wire from the plug can now be connected to the obtained
negative earth stud.
The input wire (green/blue) must be connected to an earth stud if not used for
detecting other digital inputs

The TomTom LINK 510 unit harness can be routed towards the unit and camouflaged
according to the vehicles electrical harness, using Tracker consumables to ensure a
close match.
Insert the 4-pin Molex plug into the power cable connector.
The TomTom LINK 510 unit can now be securely installed onto a flat surface a
secreted installation location of the vehicle.
To conduct a test, please refer to TomTom LINK 510 testing procedures.
After a successful test you can now close the TomTom LINK 510 with the plastic seal
NB: Once you have closed the TomTom LINK 510 with the plastic seal, the device
cannot be opened again without damaging the seal.
The vehicle can now carefully and correctly be re-assembled and the installation of the
system concluded.
Testing Operation
The following
Power or Ignition test
Before testing the connection to power and to the ignition make sure you have carried out the
steps described in the previous chapters.
Please check all connections to the LINK 510 (wires, fuses etc.).
Turn off the ignition. The green LED must be off and then flash on every 3 seconds.
Turn on the ignition. The green LED must be on and then go off every 3 seconds.
If the device is already activated, see Activating the LINK 510 on page 11, the green LED
must be on all the time.
NB: If the LED does not perform accordingly see Diagnostics
GPRS reception test
For this test, you may need to move the vehicle to a location with a clear view of the sky,
to make sure that you have adequate GPS and GPRS reception.
For this test put the LINK 510 in the position where you want to fix it
Turn on the ignition.
Monitor the yellow LED. It must be on and go off every 3 seconds.

NB: As soon as the device has established a connection to WEBFLEET the yellow LED
stays on all the time. If the LED keeps flashing for longer than 10 minutes, see
Diagnostics.
Diagnostics
Take note of the following diagnostics:
GREEN LED mode
OFF Unit is in standby mode or is not connected to power.
• Switch on ignition.
• Check if the device is properly connected to power.
OFF and short ON every 3sec Ignition off.
Rapidly flashing No operating system and/or no application available or application
failed.
• Install latest firmware application using the
TomTom Business Solutions Firmware Update
ON and short OFF every 3sec Ignition on. Application is running, device is not
activated.
• Activate device
ON Application is running, device is activated.
YELLOW LED mode
OFF Not connected - No GSM coverage.
• Check if device is connected to power, see
Connecting to power
Switch on ignition.
• Move the vehicle as you may be in a GSM dead spot.
OFF and short ON every 3sec Not connected - Correct GSM operator not available.
• Check WEBFLEET subscription for GSM network roaming support.
• Move the vehicle as you may be in a GSM dead spot.

Rapidly flashing SIM not in place; SIM defective; Modem problem.
Contact IS
ON and short OFF every 3sec connecting. No GPRS available.
• Move the vehicle as you may be in a GSM dead spot.
ON Connected.
Resetting the LINK 510
To restart your LINK 510, press the reset button with a thin pointed object until it clicks and
keeps it pressed down for 1 to 2 seconds. The LINK 510 restarts immediately after releasing
the button.
If restarting the device does not succeed remove the power cable from the LINK 510. Then
plug it into the power cable connector again.
Resetting your LINK to factory settings
To reset the LINK 510 to factory settings, press the reset button with a thin pointed object
until it clicks and keep it pressed for 4 to 8 seconds. The LINK 510 reboots immediately
after releasing the reset button.
NB: All information stored on the LINK 510 is deleted during a factory reset.
If resetting the device does not succeed, do the following:
Remove the power cable from the device.
Press the reset button with a thin pointed object until it clicks and keeps it pressed.
Insert the power cable while keeping the reset button pressed for 4 to 8 seconds.
You can count the seconds with the help of the flashing of the green LED, which flashes once per
second.
The LINK 510 reboots immediately after releasing the reset button.
Connecting To WEBFLEET
Do a Reset To Factory
Connect your TomTom PRO7100 to your TomTom LINK 510 to fully enjoy the benefits of
Connected Navigation. When you first switch on your PRO device, you are asked to connect it
with the LINK 510 installed in your vehicle. You can do this immediately or at any time later.

After you have successfully tested the operation of the TomTom LINK 510 and connected to the
TomTom PRO7100 you can now close the TomTom LINK 510 with the plastic seal.
Testing Process On New Installation
The following is important after the installation of the LINK 510 is completed:
Once the installation is completed and the job card has been completed in full, you need
to send a SMS to:
