Extending HDMI using Single Cat5e/6 to 40m/131ft
Using quality HDMI cables, connect an HDMI source (such
as Blu-Ray, games console, satellite/cable TV, media server
etc.) to the EX-40 Transmitter.
Connect a good quality, well-terminated Cat5e/6 cable of
no more than 40m/131ft in length between the UTP Output of
the EX-40 Transmitter to the UTP Input of the EX-40 receiver.
40m/131ft is the maximum recommended
transmission distance for this model and denotes perfect
transmission conditions - including straight cable runs
with no electrical interference, bends, kinks, patch panels
or wall outlets. If any of the above is a factor in your
installation, transmission range may be affected – take
care to avoid where possible.
Connect the HDMI sink (LED/LCD display or projector) to
the HDMI Output of the EX-40 Receiver
We strongly recommend using supplied mounting
brackets to secure the receiver to a flat surface behind/
near the sink device. Sudden movement of these devices
could lead to loss of picture/sound if connections
become loose or strained, resulting in unnecessary
service call-backs.
NOTE: If daisy-chaining extenders, repeat process for all
EX-40 transmitters and receivers used.
Connect the 12v power supply or 5v USB power lead
included to the EX-40 Transmitter and Receiver and power on
your EX-40 extenders, source and display devices.
Check POWER, STATUS lights are illuminated on both EX-40
Transmitters and Receiver to indicate a successful connection.
Note: We do not recommend passing remote power through
the EX-40 - local power is required at the display point.
Signal IR Control Connection
For two-way IR control of connected source and display
from either location, first, connect IR TX emitters from the IR TX
ports of the EX-40 Transmitter and Receiver and firmly attach
the IR TX emitter eye directly over the infrared receiving sensors
of the source and display device to be controlled. Location of
the emitter eye on each device may need to be adjusted later to
achieve best IR performance.
If unsure of positioning, IR sensors can be located
on devices by shining a flashlight onto the facia of the
device - the IR sensor should be identifiable as a small
round sensor behind the panel. Consult your device
manufacturer handbook if unsure.
Insert IR receivers into IR RX ports of the EX-40
Transmitter and Receiver. If using a control system, an IR Link
cable (WyreStorm p/n CAB-IR-LINK) should be used instead to
connect between the IR RX port of the EX-40 Transmitter and
the control system used.
Position the IR RX eye on or near the display or source device,
ensuring a clear line of sight to the remote handset used to
control it.

Low Prole Single Cable HD Extender Set with
Bidirectional IR Control
*PLEASE NOTE - All cable distances are on the basis of a direct runs of cable (no
patch panels or wall outlets). Please use good quality, solid conductor, Cat5e cable.
Standard pre-made patch leads will reduce eectiveness of this product. Please
ensure Cat5e cables are installed to local electrical regulations. Close lying electrical
cables can eect product performance.
cat 5e/6 cable
up to 40m (131ft)
NOTE: Although WyreStorm
products are tested with Cat5e,
we recommend Cat6 due to
increased bandwidth capability
and improved capacity for
handling large transmissions
along a single cable.

For 3D - with both units powered OFF, set Transmitter DIP
switch to position 2, connect the 3D source and the Receiver to
the 3D display. Power on all devices. The EX-40 will now detect
and output 3D to the display.

Troubleshooting
Regardless of manufacturer or product, the majority of installation
diculties can typically be attributed to communication problems
between devices or when high bandwidth transmissions are attempted
with insucient cable/connections. Should you nd yourself in such a
situation, we have drawn up the following checklist of general issues
and causes that should help you shoot your way out of trouble without
seeking further assistance.
No or poor quality picture?
Device Connection - Are you connected and powered? Double check
power and cable connections between all devices.
Cable length – Struggling to transmit a signal over the distance of your
cable? If you are approaching the maximum capacity of your transmission
cable distance, try adjusting the EQ distance settings on the Receiver.
Signal strength – Cable joins, stranded patch panels, wall outlets and
stranded patch leads as interconnects, can signicantly reduce signal
strength. Use solid core straight through connections wherever possible.
Resolution – can you get a picture at a lower resolution? If so, this
suggests a conicting resolution between source/display or a bandwidth
capacity issue with your cable. Check all devices share the same
resolution and make sure the signal is being successfully transmitted the
full length of your cable run.
Picture ‘snow’ / HD ‘noise’ – signies a failure to fully establish a
signal and can often be caused by poorly terminated RJ45 connectors
or excessive cable lengths. Ensure your cable is correctly wired to 568B
standards.
Cable quality and condition – Always use good quality leads and
cables, with RJ45 connectors wired to the 568B standard at both ends.
Should transmission problems be experienced, try swapping cables/leads
for those already working to see if this improves your image to identify
cable issue as source of problem.
Blu-Ray, 3D – Make sure all your equipment is capable, congured
and enabled to pass a signal, including compatible resolutions between
source and display and cable with adequate bandwidth used.
4K - Are you trying to pass a 4K signal? This product is not designed
to pass 4K resolutions.
IR Control
Check IR emitter and receiver eyes are correctly positioned for IR
signals to be transmitted/received. IR TX emitter eye should be xed rmly
over infrared sensors of devices. IR RX receiver eye should be attached
on or near devices ensuring a clear line of sight to the remote control
used to operate.
Is your remote control powered and sending a signal? As IR is invisible
to the naked eye, check your remote is transmitting a signal by viewing
the remote handset sensor through a digital camera/camera phone – the
sensor should ash when a button on the handset is held down.
Avoid IR dropout by ensuring IR eyes are away from direct sunlight,
halogen lighting and plasma screens that may interfere with IR signals.
Safety Recommendations:
Do not expose this apparatus to any form of moisture, including the
placement of anything containing liquids on the unit.
To prevent risk of electric shock or re hazard, ensure apparatus is
installed in an unobstructed, well ventilated area away from any external
heat sources - including other electrical devices which may produce heat.
Only use attachments / accessories specied by the manufacturer and
refer all servicing to qualied service personnel.
Failure to adhere to these recommendations may invalidate your
warranty.
Warranty Information
This product is covered by a 3 year limited parts and labour warranty.
During this period there will be no charge for unit repair, component
replacement or complete product replacement in the event of
malfunction. The decision to repair or replace will be made by the
manufacturer. This limited warranty only covers defects in materials or
workmanship and excludes normal wear and tear or cosmetic damage.

Occasionally, the installation environment, such
as the distance between source and display
may be a factor in the perfect transmission and
reception of a signal. The EX-40 Receiver can be further ne-tuned depending on
the length of Cat5e/6 cable used for optimum performance.
