assembled in housings, cabinets or in electrical operation rooms. Access to such
equipment and fixtures is granted to authorized, qualified staff only by means of
specific keys or tools.
Important Note!
All power sources to the device shall be switched off prior to performing any
installation, repair or maintenance work.
Warning of RF radiation!
Never use the TO-PASS
®
modem in areas where operation of radio equipment is
prohibited. The TO-PASS
®
modem contains a radio transmitter that can impair the
function of medical electronic equipment such as hearing aids and pacemakers.
Your doctor or the manufacturer of these devices can advise you.
Use the approved power supply only!
Use an external power supply that complies with EN 60950 only.
The output voltage of the external power supply shall not exceed 30 V DC.
The output of the external power supply must be short-circuit protected.
The TO-PASS
®
modem must be supplied with power in accordance with
IEC/EN 60950 Section 2.5 "Limited Power Source". The external power supply

The TO-PASS
®
modem GPRS RS-232 replaces a conventional AT-controlled
switched-line or dedicated-line modem. Applications can communicate with a
control center or with one another bi-directionally via GPRS. A TSC-capable
remote station is required for communication and establishing connections.
A serial RS-232 interface makes it possible to easily integrate this GPRS modem
into existing technical infrastructures.
Regardless of the operating system used by the application, the GPRS modem
uses TCP/IP networks for communication. Incoming and outgoing GSM/CSD
data calls are supported.
The TO-PASS
®
modem GPRS RS-232 has two different operating modes:
• Terminal mode
• GPRS mode
The TO-PASS
®
modem GPRS RS-232 is supplied from the factory with Terminal
mode activated.
The range of functions and mode of operation of the device differ in both modes.
Note
Switching between modes
Switching between GPRS mode and Terminal mode (see Section
"Switching Between Terminal Mode and GPRS Mode ") requires the device
to restart.

The TO-PASS
®
modem GPRS RS-232 transfers data via a GSM network by
radio.
Using GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) between controllers and a TSC
server
As SMS from one device to any remote station that can receive SMS
The TO-PASS
®
modem GPRS RS-232 is configured by program blocks of the
connected PLC and establishes the data connection itself by radio via GPRS
between a device and the TSC server.
GPRS modem
In GPRS mode, the TO-PASS
®
modem GPRS RS-232 is configured by program
blocks of the connected device and establishes a connection itself via GPRS
