Chapter 1 For Safe Use of the Unit
For safe use of the unit, be sure to read this manual before use.
1.1 Warning Symbols
This manual uses the following symbols to increase awareness of possible dangers or harmful
situations to the user, and to guide in the safe operation of the unit. Be sure that you fully
understand the contents of this manual and follow the instructions herein.
Warning symbols Description
WARNING This symbol is used to warn against the possibility of serious or fatal
injury. Follow the instructions to ensure safety.
CAUTION This symbol is used to caution against the possibility of injury. Follow
the instructions to ensure safety.
CAUTION This symbol is used to draw attention to the possibility of property
damage. Follow the instructions to prevent damage to equipment.
Point In this manual, Point is used to highlight some important issues as well
as to provide useful information.
1.2 Precautions for handling
For the safe use of the unit, be sure to follow the precautions below.
<Prohibited Uses>
WARNING
Never disassemble or modify the unit. Do not use the unit under conditions that
exceed its specifications.
Failure to do so may result in malfunction of the unit, fire or injury.
CAUTION
Do not use radio equipment as a transceiver, or mobile phones around the unit.
If electromagnetic waves are radiated to the unit, signal cables or the transducer, the
unit may not provide satisfactory precision described in the specifications.

<Compliances>
WARNING
When installing this unit, read "VM-7 Series Monitor Installation Manual" and follow
the instructions.
Failure to do so may result in malfunction of the unit, fire or injury.
CAUTION
Before installation, be sure to read the manuals for this unit as well as other
instruments that are to be connected. The use of this unit requires expert knowledge
of instruments, and the knowledge of any associated equipment.
Before any contact with the unit, be sure touch the metal objects, etc. so that the
static electricity is discharged.
Static electricity accumulated in the human body may damage the unit.
Be sure to perform the following for the stability of the unit.
- Ensure that the screws are tightly fastened and the unit is securely fixed.
- Place the unit in a metal cabinet, etc. and ensure that the lid is closed while the unit
is operated.
Contact the sales office you purchased the unit from if any of the following occurs.
Continued use of the unit under any of the conditions below may result in fire or
malfunction.
- Emits strange odors
- Overheats.
- Emits unusual noise.
- Is dropped.
- Damaged packaging

Chapter 2 Description of the System
2.1 System outline
VM-7 Series Monitor is a system which provides full-time on-line monitoring of various rotating
machineries.
Signals transmitted from the sensor installed to rotating machineries are input to the monitor
module.
The input signals can be displayed and monitored on a display PC.
If the signals reach an abnormal level, the corresponding warning will be output.

2.2 Installation conditions
Install the unit in a place where the following conditions are satisfied.
y Ambient
temperature:
0 to 65°C when the unit is operated
y Ambient
humidity
20 to 90%RH (no condensation) when the unit is operated
y Vibration
condition
2 m/s2 or less at 10 to 100 Hz
y Air cleanliness
level
Ideally, with the air dust level at 0.2 mg/m3 or less.
Also, keep away from corrosive gases including hydrogen sulfide gas,
chlorine gas, as well as electrically conductive dust such as iron and carbon.

2.3 Unit part name and functions
VM-7 system monitor is provided with the slots, Slot 0 to 10, in which each module is installed.

Power Supply Module Supplies power to modules.
Slot P1 is primary, and Slot P2 is secondary.
Local Communication &
Phase Marker Module
Displays measurement values and the status of each
unit through the MCL View, and perform settings
using FIELD CONFIG.
Also detects the phase marker signals.
This module can be installed on Slot 0 only.
Network
Communication Module
The measurement value and status of each module is
transmitted to the network.
This module can be installed on Slot 1 or 2.
Other Monitor Modules Monitors input signals.

<Instrument Rack (VM-76)>
An instrument rack comes in two different models: a Eurotype input/output terminal type
(VM-761) and a batch input/output panel connector type (VM-762).
An instrument rack is an assembly to accommodate each module and fix it onto the panel.
All the modules are mounted in the slots inside an instrument rack.
I/O terminals or connectors are located on the back of the instrument rack, and cables are
connected to them.
The size of the rack conforms to EIA standards.

<Vibration/Displacement Monitor Module (VM-701)>
The Vibration/Displacement Monitor Module is a monitor that monitors the vibration level and
position of the shaft of rotating machineries, and thermal expansion difference between the rotor
and casing.
This module provides functions for measuring various type vibration and displacement of rotating
machineries through software and hardware settings, and is compatible with up to four channel
inputs.
Also, this module provide the recorder output corresponding to input signals and contact output, to
outside equipment via the rear panel of the instrument rack.

<Absolute Vibration Monitor Module (VM-702)>
The Vibration Monitor Module is a dedicated monitor that monitors the relative/absolute vibration
level of the rotary machine shafts, or relative vibration and seismic vibration simultaneously.
This module is compatible with up to 2 input systems (relative vibration: 2 channels, seismic
vibration: 2 channels).
Also, this module provide the recorder output corresponding to input signals and contact output, to
outside equipment via the rear panel of the instrument rack.

signal and converted into the absolute vibration
(displacement).

<Tachometer & Eccentricity Monitor Module (VM-703)>
Tachometer & Eccentricity Monitor Module is a monitor that has a function to monitor rotation
speed/acceleration of the shaft and to monitor shaft eccentricity while the rotation machine is
started.
This module provides up to two channels for rotation signals, and one channel for eccentricity
signal.
Also, this module provide the recorder output corresponding to input signals and contact output, to
outside equipment via the rear panel of the instrument rack.

<Temperature Monitor Module (VM-704)>
The Temperature Monitor Module is a monitor that monitors the temperatures of rotating
machineries. A single module provides up to six channels for input, and can monitor the
temperature of six different locations on the machine. In addition, as an input transducer, the
module can also accommodate thermocouple, three-wire and four-wire resistance thermometer
sensors.
Also, this module provide the recorder output corresponding to input signals and contact output, to
outside equipment via the rear panel of the instrument rack.
