Dingalingaling!
The Ambulance game
A speedy ambulance ride for 2 - 4 junior paramedics ages 5 - 99.
Author: Gunter Baars
Illustrations: Thies Schwarz
Length of the game: 10 - 15 minutes
Raise the alarm! You can hear the wailing of a siren in the distance as an ambulance
heads for an emergency! Not an easy job for the paramedics. Where is the house
from where the emergency call was made? There are plenty of obstacles in the streets
which hamper the progress of the ambulance.
Everybody is on call so that the patient can be delivered as quickly as possible to the
hospital.

1 big metal ambulance
1 small wooden ambulance
1 hospital card
14 street cards
12 patient cards (magnetic)
12 emergency cards
8 warning light cards
1 die with symbols
Set of game instructions
Game Idea
In order to succeed in your mission you need good memory skills and a bit of luck with
the die. Your ambulance is called out on an emergency. But before you can help the
patient you have to find your way to the house. Then, the second part of your mission will
be driving your ambulance back to the hospital as quickly as possible. In each round only
one player can deliver one of his patients to the hospital.
The aim of the game is to be the first to bring three patients to the hospital.
Preparation of the Game
Take all the game materials out of the big
ambulance and then put the ambulance aside.
Place the hospital card in the center of the
table and put the small ambulance on it.
Shuffle the 12 emergency cards and put them in a pile
face-down next to the hospital card. The emergency cards
show which house has made the emergency call.
Turn the 14 street cards face-down, shuffle them and arrange
them in a row. The street cards show street sections and will be
arranged during the game to form a street. They also depict the
locations of the houses placing the emergency calls.

Each player takes three patient cards and two warning light cards
and places them in front of him.
The warning light cards show on one side a damaged light, on the other side an intact light.
They will be used to give the go-ahead for the ambulance on its way to the hospital.
Place one card showing the damaged light, and the other with the flashing blue light in
front of you.
All remaining game material is returned to the big ambulance.
How to Play
Play in a clockwise direction. The player who has recently ridden in an ambulance, starts
the game. If you cannot agree the oldest player starts by turning over the emergency
card on the top of the pile. Now together you have to find the street card showing this
house.
Example: Search for the yellow house with house number 1.

The colors of the
houses are red,
yellow, blue and
purple.
There are house
numbers 1, 2 and 3.

Uncover a street card and check to see if you can join it to the hospital card.
Each street card shows …
a section of a street (straight or curved)
a number of colored houses
a house with a house number or a billboard showing a warning light.
Example:
You can only add a street card
showing two yellow houses,
or
one yellow house if the street
is curved, to the hospital.
After that you always have to join street cards which match the previous card,
so that the adjacent houses are the same color.

Can you join the uncovered street card?
No?
Pity! Turn the street card over again.
Then it's the turn of the next player
to uncover a street card and check
to see if it fits.
Yes?
Place the street card.
But your turn is not over yet. Take a close look at the street card:
1. Does the street card show a billboard with a warning light?
Two of the 14 street cards show a billboard with a warning light.
Placing a street card of this type allows you to flip over the damaged
light in front of you. It is now repaired and you have two intact warning lights.
If you already have two working lights in front of you, you can determine who of
the other players can turn over one of his damaged lights.
Then turn over another street card.
2. The street card does not show the house with the emergency?
Pity! You have not yet arrived at the correct house but you can flip
over another street card.
3. Does the card show the house with the emergency?
Great! You have reached the house of the patient. Place the small wooden
ambulance on this card. Now the patient has to be taken to the hospital as
quickly as possible.
The speedy ride to the hospital
As the house corresponding to the emergency case has been found and added, the
second part of the game begins. The player who placed the card, now rolls the die.
The die shows:
One or two dots?
Move the ambulance the corresponding number of street cards towards the
hospital. Then roll the die again.

The car?
Oh dear! Cars are blocking the street. You have three options:
1. You help yourself with the warning light so that the cars give way.
Turn an intact light over to its damaged side and roll the die again.
2. You decide not to use a warning light.
Maybe you will be able to use it better later on in the journey to
the hospital. It is then the turn of the next player to roll the die.
3. You are left without any warning lights.
That means it's the turn of the next player.
Watch out:
On the way back to the hospital the billboards with a warning light no longer have any
effect. No blue light can be repaired there.
The ambulance reaches the hospital!
As soon as the ambulance reaches the hospital card, the emergency mission has been
completed successfully. The player who moved it there can stick one of his patient cards
to the big ambulance.
A new round starts!
As at the beginning of the game, all the street cards are placed face down next to the
hospital and the card on top of the emergency card pile is uncovered. It's the turn of
the next player to start a new round by uncovering a street card.
End of the game
The game ends as soon as a player has stuck his three patient cards to the big
ambulance. This player wins the game and is made head of the paramedics.
