rear insulators. Attach the hinge to the center insulator with
bolts. With the blade in the uncammed position, install the bolts
down through the rotator into the rear insulator. Check the align-
ment of the hinge with the jaw and tighten the mounting bolts.
With the blade still uncammed the tip is to be centered in be-
tween the contact fingers, then tighten the mounting bolts for the
jaw.
(E) Arcing horns, if used, are shipped with the switch. However, the
stationary horn is not attached for shipment. Install the station-
ary horn. Adjust the arcing horn so it does not touch when the
switch is in the closed position, but makes contact as the blade
rotates open. Only a slight pressure should exist between the
horns. Excessive pressure will cause binding during operation of
the switch.
2. Installation and Adjustment
Install the switch units onto the structure as noted in “1-B” securely
bolting the base in the position sequence shown on the operating
mechanism drawing.
(A) A vertical break switch is in the closed position when the blade tip
is fully engaged in the jaw between the contact fingers. In this
position the blade would be parallel to the
mounting base. The travel of the blade is in a
plane that passes through the longitudinal
axis of the switch phase.
(B) Fully close all phases manually by rotating the
rear insulator. In this position the blade tip
should be sitting level in the jaw and in line
with the contact finger back up springs. The
crank arm should be against the closed stop.
The arcing horn should not be in contact with the bypass arm.
See figure at right.
1. If the blade tip is not laying flat in the jaw, adjust the close
stop on the bridge. Be careful not to adjust it too far as not to
allow the mechanism to over center and thereby not locking
the switch in a closed position.
2. In the unlikely event that there is not sufficient adjustment in
the stop to allow for the blade tip to lay flat, then the blade
will need to be rotated in the blade adaptor. Loosen the u-
bolts on the blade adaptor and slightly rotate the blade. Do
not remove the blade. Tighten the nuts on the u-bolts and
check the positioning again. Repeat if necessary to achieve
