INSTALLATION
WARNING! Risk of electric shock. The pump
is supplied with a grounding conductor and
grounding-type attachment plug on the power
cord. To reduce the risk of electric shock, be
certain that it is connected only to a properly
grounded, grounding-type receptacle. Do not cut
off the ground pin or use an adapter fitting.
WARNING! The basin or tank must be vented in
accordance with local plumbing codes. These
pumps are not designed for and cannot be
installed in locations classified as hazardous in
accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CE)
and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health
and Safety (CCOHS).
CAUTION! Never enter the pump chamber after sewage
or effluent has been in the basin. Sewage water can
give off methane, hydrogen sulfide and other gasses
which are highly poisonous.
The dosing tank or pumping chamber must be
constructed of corrosion resistant materials and must
be capable of withstanding all anticipated internal and
external loads. It also must not allow infiltration or
exfiltration. The tank must have provisions for anti-
buoyancy. Access holes or cover must be adequate
size and be accessible from the surface to allow for
installation and maintenance of the system. Access
covers must be lockable or heavy enough to prevent easy access by unauthorized personnel. The
pumping chamber holding capacity should be selected to allow for emergency conditions.
The discharge pipe must be the same size as the pump discharge (2 inches) or larger. In order to
insure sufficient fluid velocity to prevent any residual solids from collecting in the discharge pipe. It is
recommended that a minimum flow of 2 inches per second be maintained. (12 GPM through 1-1/2 in.
pipe, 21 GPM through 2 inch pipe and 46 GPM through 3 inch pipe). It is recommended that PVC or
equal pipe is used for corrosion resistance. A full flow (ball or gate) shut off valve must be installed to
prevent back flow of effluent if the pump must be removed for service. A check valve must be installed
on pressure sewer systems and on other systems where conditions allow to prevent backflow and to
reduce wear on the pump system.
A high water alarm must be installed on a separate circuit from the pump circuit. The alarm should
have the ability to be tested for proper operation.
1. Place the pump on a hard, level surface in a suitable, gas-tight basin that is at least 11 in.
(28cm) diameter and 18 in. (46 cm) deep (see figure 1).
NOTE: Never place the pump directly on clay, earth, or gravel surfaces.

2. Install the pump with ABS, PVC, polyethylene, or galvanized steel pipe. Use the proper
adapters to connect plastic pipe to the pump.
3. Install a check valve in the discharge line to prevent the backflow of liquid into the basin. The
check valve should be free-flow valve that will easily pass solids.
CAUTION! For the best performance when handling solids, install the check valve
horizontally or at an angle of no more than 45°. Do not install the check valve vertically
because solids may settle in the valve and prevent it from opening on start-up.
4. When using a check valve, drill a 1/8 in. (3.175 mm) or 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) diameter relief hole
in the discharge pipe below the floor line between the pump discharge and the check valve.
Otherwise, the pump could air lock and will not pump water even though the pump will run.
See figure 1.

TESTING
NOTE: When the pump is installed in a basin with a sealed cover, you cannot observe the operation of
the float switch. The cover usually will have a spare hole that is blocked with a rubber plug. Remove
this plug to observe the switch operation during testing.
1. Check the pump label for proper voltage required.
WARNING! Do not connect to a voltage other than that shown.
2. Plug the power cord directly into a GFCI equipped electrical outlet.
3. Run water into the basin until the pump starts.
4. Be sure the check valve in the discharge line is open.
5. Allow the pump to operate through several on / off cycles.
MAINTENANCE
CAUTION! Always unplug the power cords or turn off all main and branch circuit breakers before
doing any work on the pump. If the control panel is remote from the pump, disconnect the lead
wires to the motor so that no one can turn the circuit breaker back on.
1. Cycle the pump at least once every month to be sure that the system is working properly.
2. Before removing the pump from the basin for service, always disconnect the electrical power
source to the pump and the control switch. Do not lift the pump by the power cord.
WARNING! Sudden starts. If the power is on to the pump when the thermal overload resets, the
pump may start without warning. If you are working on the pump, you may get an electrical shock
or the impeller may catch fingers or tools.
WARNING! Disconnect the pump from the power source before servicing.
NOTE: This pump has no serviceable parts. The motor housing of the pump is completely sealed and
requires no service. Disassembly of the motor housing or alteration of the power cord will void all
warranties. The power cord on this pump cannot be replaced. If it becomes damaged, the entire pump
must be replaced.
DISINFECT THE PUMP
Place the pump in an area where it can be cleaned thoroughly. Remove all scale and deposits on
thepump.
NOTE: Wear rubber or plastic gloves when handling the pump for service. Completely submerge the
pump in a disinfectant solution (Clorox or chlorine bleach) for at least one hour before disassembling
the pump.
LUBRICATION
The pump is permanently lubricated. No oiling or greasing is required in normal operation.
