IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNINGS
The Magellan eXplorist TRX is an Off-
Road vehicle navigation aid designed to
assist you in driving on your route and
arriving to your selected destinations.
Please check with your state or local law
enforcement for applicable regulations
regarding mounting to the windshield.
The driver should enter data or program
the Magellan device only when the
vehicle is stopped. Only a vehicle
passenger should enter data or program
the device while the vehicle is moving.
It is your responsibility to comply with all
traffic laws.
Every attempt is made to ensure that the
database is accurate. However, roadways,
points of interest (POIs), and business
and service locations may change over
time.
Keep the device safe from extreme
temperature conditions. For example,
do not leave it exposed to direct sunlight
for an extended period of time. The
minimum operating temperature is 14ºF
(-10ºC), and the maximum operating
temperature is 140°F (60°C).
Take care when mounting the device
in your vehicle, whether using the
windshield mount or other mount or
accessories, so that the device does
not obstruct the driver’s view of the
road, interfere with the operation of the
vehicle’s safety devices such as airbags,
or present a hazard to occupants of
the vehicle should the device become
dislodged while driving. Comply with
all local, state, and federal laws before
mounting the device in your vehicle.
You assume the risks associated with
damage to your vehicle or vehicle
occupants as the result of your choices in
mounting the device.
The battery is rechargeable and should
not be removed. In the event it should
need to be replaced, please contact
Magellan Technical Support or visit
http://support.magellangps.com.
Charging the Magellan eXplorist TRX7
An AC adapter is included with your
eXplorist TRX7. If you need to replace
your AC adapter, use a 3.5V-5V 2A
charger.
Only use the car charger approved for/
supplied with your eXplorist TRX7. Use of
another type of car charger will result in
fire or electric shock.
For safety reasons, the battery in your
eXplorist TRX7 will stop charging when
the ambient temperature is less than
32°F (0°C) or more than 113°F (45°C).
It will take approximately 4 hours of
charging the eXplorist TRX device
through the vehicle power adapter or
optional AC adapter to obtain a full
battery charge. It is recommended that
you charge the battery initially for at least
2 hours.
Use only the charger approved for your
Magellan eXplorist TRX device.

Magellan eXplorist TRX7 connects you
and your vehicle to superior outdoor
adventure lifestyles experiences.
While off-road, users with Magellan’s
Off-Road GPS Navigation System can
record off-road adventures and log Dirt
Miles, capture and share adventures by
creating tracks and marking waypoints to
share with the eXplorist TRX community,
find new trails submitted by other
eXplorist TRX users, share favorite trails
with the community, and more.
It all starts with Magellan eXplorist TRX7.
With the TRX7, you can:
• Search for Trails, Trips, and Points
of Interest (POIs) preloaded into your
TRX7 and easily route to any location.
• Create a Wish List of Trails, Trips,
and POIs for future navigation.
• Track and record Trails and off-
road routes.
• Log detailed waypoints, such as
water, obstacles, and scenic spots,
along a Trail or route.
• Earn achievements as you log Dirt
Miles through the United States and
Canada.
• Create an Account Profile with
customized vehicles and sync your
profile with TRX Web at http://
mytrxjournal.com.
• Connect your profile to Twitter and
Instagram to share your adventures
with the TRX community.
• Keep your own Trail log and access
a database of Trails published by the
TRX user community.

Getting Started at Home
Connect to Wi-Fi
1. From the Home screen, tap Apps -->
Settings --> Wi-Fi.
2. Tap the On/Off button to turn Wi-Fi on.
3. Select the desired network under Wi-
Fi networks.
4. Enter password (if applicable) and tap
connect.
Your TRX7 is now connected to a Wi-Fi
network.
Register Your Account
Refer to Create Your Profile for details
about registering your TRX account.
Getting Started in Your Vehicle
Choose a location
Find a location with a clear view of the
sky.
Clean the surface
Clean the area on the windshield where
you want to mount the device. Allow the
surface to dry.
Install the mounted device
1. Hold the suction cup firmly against the
windshield surface
2. Push the level towards the base.
3. Screw the AMPS plate on the cradle.
4. Attach the device onto the mount.
Power On
Press the Power button, located on the
right side of the device, to turn the device
on.
Connect to Wi-Fi Hot Spot
1. From the Home screen, tap Apps -->
Settings --> Wi-Fi.
2. Slide the button to the right to turn
Wi-Fi on.
3. Select the desired network under Wi-
Fi networks.
4. Enter password (if applicable) and tap
Connect.
Your TRX7 is now connected to a Wi-Fi
Hot Spot.
Note: Wi-Fi must be ON in order to
synchronize your TRX7 with your TRX
Web account.
Getting Started
Important
Various factors influence GPS signal
reception. Here are tips to help improve the
signal reception and time to calculate the
current location.
Leave any enclosed structure (garage,
parking structures, etc.).
Make sure you have a ‘clear view of the
sky’. Buildings and trees can have an
impact on GPS signal reception.
Make sure that the device is mounted
where it can have a clear line of sight to
the windshield.
Note: The first time the device calculates its
location can take up to 1 minute. Subsequent
times will be 15 seconds on average.

Powering On the TRX7
The Power On/Off button is located on
the right side of the TRX7 receiver, above
the Volume buttons.
Press the Power button until you hear a
click, then release the button. The Boot
screen displaying the Magellan logo will
appear.
The Boot screen disappears, and the
Lock screen appears, displaying the
time, date, and the Lock icon.
Turning On the TRX7
Slide the Lock icon in any direction to
unlock the device. You will view either the
Home screen or the last screen displayed
when you turned off the TRX7.
Turning Off the TRX7
To lock the device, simply press the
Power button.
To power the device off completely:
1. Press and hold the Power button for 3
seconds.
2. Select Power off from the menu that
appears.
From this menu, you can also:
Turn the device to Airplane Mode to
deactivate all data connections (Wi-Fi,
Bluetooth, etc.).
Restart the device.
Turn the device on Silent mode to turn
off all device sounds.
Note: you can still track your progress
while the device is in Airplane Mode.
Viewing the Battery Level Indicator
The Battery Level is always displayed on
the top right corner of the screen. The
Battery Level is indicated by a battery-
shaped icon that is colored blue based on
the percentage of battery life remaining.
To view more Battery Level details:
1. Slide your finger downward from the
top right corner of the screen.
2. Tap on the Battery icon, which
displays the percentage of battery
power left in the device.
3. A display screen will appear:
You can tap on any of these options to
display details of each type of battery
use.
The TRX7 can normally function for 4-6
hours on battery when the battery is
charged to 100%.

Checking GPS Status
Both the top left and right corners of
the screen give you access to your GPS
Status.
To view detailed GPS Status:
1. Slide your finger downward from the
top left corner of the screen.
2. Tap on Location set by GPS.
A display screen will appear with the
following options:
Access to my location: allows you to
give permission to apps on the device
to use your location information. Tap
On or Off to use this function.
Location Sources
GPS satellites: lets apps use GPS on
your eXplorist TRX7 to pinpoint your
location. This option is automatically
selected when you turn On access to
your location.
You can also view detailed GPS Status
from the top right corner of the screen:
1. Slide your finger downward from the
top right corner of the screen.
2. Tap on Settings.
3. Scroll down the menu that appears to
Location access. This will display the
same options described above.
Volume
You can adjust the volume up and down
using the two Volume buttons on the
right side of the eXplorist TRX7 (under
the Power button).
When you use these buttons, a volume
indicator appears on the screen. You can
also adjust the volume by tapping on
the circle in the volume level and sliding
it left (for volume down) and right (for
volume up).
You can also tap to open a Notification
volume level. Slide this indicator left and
right to adjust notification volume.
Brightness
1. Slide your finger downward from the
top right corner of the screen.
2. Tap Brightness.
3. Tap the circle in the Brightness control
indicator and slide the indicator left
(to decrease brightness) and right (to
increase brightness).

Home Screen
The Home Screen displays the TRX7
Dashboard app, the current time and
date, the weather at your GPS location,
and other basic functions.
The Home Screen allows you to access:

Note: eXplorist TRX7 is built on Ulmo Pro
N496(x) Series tablet device hardware.
Please refer to the N497(x) Series User

troubleshooting, and more.
Note: eXplorist TRX7 uses the Android
4.2.2 “Jelly Bean” software platform.
Please refer to Android Jelly Bean
software documentation for detailed
information about Jelly Bean apps,
widgets, and other user functions.
Dashboard
The TRX7 Dashboard is the central hub
of activity for the use of your TRX7. From
the Dashboard, you can:
Track Me: Track your progress in real-
time using your device GPS location
Journal: Manage your Trail Log and
Wish List
Search: Explore your surroundings
using a Map or List view
Settings: Access software updates,
your Account Profile, Social Networks,
Achievements, Data/Account Resets,
and view TRX7 Product Information
View your total number of Dirt Miles,
Trails, and Achievements
You can access the Dashboard by tapping
the ORV app icon on the Home screen.

Create an Account on TRX Web
Before using the TRX7 for viewing and
tracking Trails, create an account on
http://mytrxjournal.com to access your
device information online.
1. Select Sign In.
2. Select Create Account.
3. Fill in the following fields:
4. Select Create Account to confirm
the creation of your new TRX Web
account. A confirmation email will be
sent to your email address inbox.
Once you’ve confirmed your account
through the email you received, return to
your device and complete the following
steps to sync your TRX7 with your new
account:
1. Tap Settings on the Magellan
Dashboard screen.
2. Tap Account Profile and enter the
email address and password that you
used to create your TRX Web account.
3. Tap Connect to log into your account.
Note: Alternatively, tap on Register New
Account to create the account from the
device. However, it is recommended that
you create your account on the TRX Web
online platform.
Refer to Using Your TRX Web Account
Profile Online for more details about
using the TRX Web homepage.

Creating a Vehicle Profile
You can create a customized Vehicle
Profile for use with your account so that
the TRX user community knows your
vehicle of choice (or so you can show it
off).
To create a Vehicle Profile:
1. Tap Settings on the Dashboard.
2. Tap Account Profile in Settings.
3. Tap Vehicles on the Account Profile
screen to enter the Vehicle Profile.
4. Tap the Pencil button and Select Add
Vehicle.
5. Enter your vehicle information:
Nickname, Year, Make, Model, and City
and State.
6. Check Active Vehicle if this will be
your primary vehicle.
7. Tap Edit (below the vehicle image) to
add a picture of your vehicle from your
device (optional).
8. Tap Save.
You have successfully added a vehicle
to your Account Profile. You can add
multiple vehicles by simply tapping the
Pencil button and selecting Add Vehicle
from the Vehicles Profile page.
The first vehicle you add will
automatically be designated as your
Active Vehicle.
To select a different Active Vehicle from
your list of vehicles:
1. Tap on the vehicle you wish to assign
as your Active Vehicle.
2. Tap on the Active Vehicle check box.
3. You will see a prompt that says
Change active vehicle? Select OK to
confirm the change, or Cancel to stop
the change.

Linking Your Social Media Accounts
You can link your Twitter and Instagram
accounts to your Account Profile to share
Tweets about your Dirt Miles and pictures
of your experiences on the Trail. This lets
you alert your friends that you’ve found a
new Trail, share your adventures with the
TRX7 user community, and more.
Linking Your Twitter Account
To link your Twitter account to share
instant updates from the Trail to your
Twitter feed:
1. Tap Settings.
2. Select Social Networks.
3. Tap on + next to the Twitter option.
4. Tap Connect.
5. Enter your User Name and Email
Address and Password and tap
Connect.
6. Tap Done to finish linking your Twitter
account.

Linking Your Instagram Account
To link your Instagram account to share
pictures from the Trail:
1. Tap on + next to the Instagram option.
2. Tap Connect.
3. Enter your User Name or Email
Address and Password and tap
Connect.
4. Tap Done to finish linking your
Instagram account.

Track Logging
To begin logging your progress on a Trip,
Trail, or other route:
1. Tap Track Me from the Dashboard.
The Map Screen will open and
tracking will start automatically.
2. Tap to pause tracking.
3. Tap to resume tracking.
While tracking your progress, you can:
Toggle between North Up and Track
Up views.
Toggle between a 2D and 3D view.
Note: The Toggle icon turns blue
whenever you pan around the map. Tap
on the blue icon to snap the map view
back to your current location.
Pausing your progress will display more
options.
Mark Waypoint: Record an Audio
Waypoint, select a specific Waypoint at
your Current Location, mark a Point on
Map, and Enter Coordinates. This is also
available while tracking is in progress.
Social Post: Share your progress on
Twitter with an automatic Tweet.
Backtrack: Follow your route back to
where you began.
Finish: Save your Trail with details
about the Trail terrain, pitch, tilt, a
custom rating, and more.
Mark Waypoints
Add details to your Trail by marking
Waypoints. Whether you want a steep,
muddy, challenging Trail or a flat, dry,
leisurely ride, Waypoints allow you to
make that call before you head to the
Trail. The more Waypoints you add to
a Trail, the easier it will be for you and
other users to judge which Trails are best
for each off-roading adventure.
You can save both a custom Waypoint and
a Quick Waypoint.

To save a custom Waypoint:
1. Pause your tracking progress.
2. Tap Mark Waypoint .
3. Select one of the following options:
Audio Waypoint: Record a custom
audio message describing the Waypoint.
Current Location: Select a Waypoint
to add detail to Waypoint information:
Point on Map: Tap anywhere on the
map to save a Waypoint in that specific
location. You can also view a list of
nearby Waypoints when you save a
Waypoint on the map.
Coordinates: Enter specific coordinates
to save a Waypoint.
4. Tap Save when you’ve finished
creating the Waypoint.
To save a Quick Waypoint while tracking
your progress:
1. Tap Mark Waypoint .
2. Tap on the Waypoint you want to mark:
3. Choose a detailed Waypoint option
under the Waypoint you selected.
4. Tap Save to the save the Waypoint
on your Trail, or tap Cancel to stop
creating a Waypoint.
Each Waypoint will appear on your Trail
log when you save the Trail to your TRX
Web account.
Social Post
Tweeting your progress from a Trail lets
your friends and other riders know where
you’re riding and how many Dirt Miles
you’ve driven.
To post a Tweet to your linked Twitter
account:
1. Pause your Tracking progress.
2. Tap on Social Post .
3. Tap OK when you see the notification
This will post upon connection. You
will see this notification if you’re not
connected to Wi-Fi.

4. Tap OK.
A preformatted Tweet will be shared with
your followers, letting them know you’re
out on the Trail having a good time.
Backtrack
To follow the Trail you’ve created in
reverse:
1. Tap Backtrack to get back to your
starting point. You will see this
notification:
2. Tap either OK to begin backtracking,
or Cancel to return to the Pause
screen.
Finish (Save)
Once you’ve finished logging your Trip or
Trail, you can save your route from your
device. To save your route:
1. Tap Pause when you’ve finished
tracking your progress.
2. Tap Finish . You will see a new
screen with customizable trail
attributes.
3. Tap on the text box that says Name to
enter a custom Trail name with the
device keyboard.
4. Select a 4WD (four-wheel drive)
option: NO, Some, or Must.
5. Select a 4LO (low-gear) option: NO,
Some, or Must.
6. Select Terrain type: Solid, Loose, or
Rutted.
7. Select detailed Terrain information:
8. Select a Pitch, Tilt, and Rating from
1-5 stars.

9. Tap the Comment text box to enter a
customized message about the Trail.
10. Tap Save to sync the Trail
information to your account, or
Discard to stop saving the Trail.
Your trail will also be assigned one of
four Difficulty levels:
Easy
Intermediate
Advanced
Expert only
Once you have saved and uploaded a Trail
to your account, you and other users in
the TRX community can view the Trails
route, Waypoints, and attributes.
Note: Entering Trail details is optional
at the time of saving, but is mandatory
before publishing the Trail on Magellan
Public Trail Database.
Journal
All of your saved Trails, Waypoints, and
Points of Interest (POIs) will be available
in your from the Dashboard
screen.
Log: Shows your completed Trips, Trails,
and Waypoints in chronological order
with the most recent at the top.
Wish List: Shows Trips, Trails, and
Waypoints that have been saved from
Search.
To create a new Trip with previously
saved Trips and Trails:
1. Tap and tap .
2. Type the name you want for the trip.
3. Tap Done on the keyboard.
4. Tap the check box next to each trip
that you wish to add.
5. Tap Save.

You can also delete previously saved
Trips in your Journal:
1. Tap .
2. Tap on the Trail(s) you wish to delete
so that the box on the right side of the
Trail information is checked.
3. Tap .
4. Select OK to delete the selected
entries, or Cancel to return to your
Log.
To go to a place that you’ve previously
saved to your Wish List:
1. Tap on an item on your Wish List.
2. Tap on Go.
Search
To search for Trails, Waypoints, POIs, or
other preloaded or custom landmarks,
tap on the Dashboard.
You have several options in the Search
menu:
View all Trails and Waypoints
on a dynamic 2D/3D map around your
current GPS location.
Pan around the map and tap on a
Waypoint on the Map screen to view the
attributes of and distance to the Waypoint
from your location.
You can also save a Waypoint to your
Wish List by tapping on Save on the
bottom right corner of the Waypoint Info
screen.
View a list of all Trails and
Waypoints around your current GPS
location.
Customize a search for a
nearby Trail or Waypoint.

To filter a search for a nearby Trail,
Waypoint, or POI with the Map Filter:
1. Tap on the Map button.
2. Select a Type of location:
Note: The Places option allows you to
search for nearby pre-loaded locations,
including stores, restaurants, gas
stations, recreational areas/facilities, and
more.
3. Select Difficulty (Easy to Expert):
4. Select a Rating (1-5 Stars):
5. Tap on Filter to populate the Map with
results using your filters.
6. Tap on a Trip, Trail, or POI that
appears on the Map to view its
attributes and, if desired, save it to
your Wish List.
To filter a search using the List Filter:
1. Tap on the List button.
2. Select a Type, Difficulty, and Rating.
3. Tap Sort By to organize your search
results:
4. Tap Filter to view a list of your filtered
search results.
Tap on any of these results to view the
attributes of the Trip, Trail, or POI. Tap
Save to add the item to your Wish List.
Achievements
As you drive on Trips and Trails
throughout the United States and
Canada, you will earn achievements that
will be displayed on your Account Profile.
When you earn an achievement after
driving a Trip or Trail, you will see screen
like this:

All of your achievements will be
displayed on your TRX Web profile page.
You can also view your achievement on
your device:
1. Tap Settings on the Dashboard
screen.
2. Tap Achievements in Settings to see
all the awards and badges you’ve
earned.
3. Tap All Achievements to see a list of
all of the achievements that you can
earn.
Resets
If necessary, you can reset your Dirt
Miles, delete all data associated with
your account, or delete your account
completely.
To perform any of these resets:
4. Tap Settings on the Dashboard.
5. Tap Resets in Settings to open a list of
reset options.
6. Tap your desired Reset option.
7. Tap OK to confirm the reset, or Cancel
to stop the reset.
Note: You will need to enter your account
password before you delete your account.
Enter your password and your account
will be permanently deleted.
