Always select 4x4 (manual gearbox) when changing from tar to gravel, snow or any soft surface.
Always select the off-road button (manual and automatic gearbox) for any loose surface, other than tar.
Never drive too fast. Adapt your speed and driving style to suit the current off-road terrain.
When the going gets tough, below 40 km/h, select Low Range for manual gearbox and S for
automatic gearbox.
For sand driving, select the ESP button to switch off the ESP system.
Use the rear difflock in difficult sand conditions and chassis twisters. Also, deflate tyres to a suitable
lower pressure.
For better traction, deflate tyres when off-roading:
Gravel roads = 1.6 to 1.7 bar;
Rocks, mud and snow = 1.4 bar;
Sand = 1.0 to 1.2 bar.
Amarok Obstacle Driving
Use your common sense and you will get far without trouble.
Rather do it over, than overdo it.
The less traction, the more momentum − thus,
increase momentum when traction decreases.
Keep constant momentum through obstacles.
Rather walk an obstacle if you are in doubt, or when the
view is obscured.
All 4 wheels must always be on the highest ground possible.
All 4 wheels must be on the most even ground surface to
minimise suspension travel.
Enjoy your Amarok and tread lightly.
