Albrecht Contact Owner’s Manual
Introduction
Tectalk Contact is a palm-sized communicator that you can carry almost anywhere. Use it as
well as privately radio at shopping malls, amusement parks, or sports events to contact family
and friends, or in a neighborhood watch for vital communications, or also for commercial use
on construction sites, for motor bike driving schools or maintenance people.
Tectalk Contact has 8 channels. You can talk with other PMR users whose communicators are
turned to the same channel as yours. With the auto-squelch feature, you will not hear anything
until the sound quality is reasonably clear. Tone Squelch (CTCSS) feature also keeps your
transceiver quiet except for the calls you want to hear.
The radio is equipped with VOX operation. i.e. you can simply talk to the microphone and the
voice will be transmitted to your companion automatically. When operating with external
microphone and earphone (not included), you can communicate with your friends without
pressing a key. This hand-free feature is very useful when you are driving or cycling.

Standby Mode
Transmit & Receive
At the upper right corner of the transceiver, you
may find a Volume Knob.
To turn On the transceiver, rotate the Volume Knob
clockwise until a tick sound is heard. Rotate the
knob further to increase the sound volume.
Rotate the knob anti-clockwise may decrease the
sound volume and eventually Power Off the
transceiver when a tick sound is heard again.
After the PMR is turned On, it is in the so-called Standby Mode in which it
awaits keys to be pressed by users and monitors the preset channel at the same
time. If there is no function from user or receive no signal after a minute, an in-
built energy saving system will switch itself on automatically, which further
reduces the power consumption and hence lengthen standby time significantly.
The Monitor Key temporarily disables the automatic squelch function.
Use this function when the signal received becomes too weak and can
only be heard in short sudden bursts through the squelch. Therefore, you
will have a better chance of continuing your radio conversation with the
other end.
In order to make or to answer a call, press and hold down the PTT key,
then talk at your normal voice level to the microphone. The “TX” icon
will appear on the LCD, whilst the unit begins transmission.
Once you press PTT key, a Transmit Power Save function is enabled and
it will automatically stop your transmission after 2 minutes. The purpose
of the function is to prevent prolonged continuous transmission since it
may cause unnecessary interference to other radio users and most
importantly, consume all your battery power. It is helpful for example, if
you keep the PTT key pressed accidentally.

VOX Operation
Key Lock
Traditionally, you should press and hold PTT key during conversation and release it
after conversation so as not to occupy the channel. With the VOX operation mode, the
voice transmission is started automatically once you speak at the microphone and stop
after speaking. This is very helpful when you are driving, jogging or cycling.
¬
-

in memory.
“oF” – VOX OFF

microphone gently to test which level (“Hi” or “Lo”)
he feels comfortable. Once PMR detected voice, it
will transmit automatically and “TX” icon will stop
blinking.
Notes: if VOX is enabled, ”TX” icon will FLASH at
Standby Mode as an indication
Key Lock, disables UP, DOWN and MODE keys, except PTT and MON. This feature is
used to protect your channel and tone setting from changing accidentally. If key lock is
enabled, an icon will appear on LCD and beep tone can be heard if keys are pressed.
