AFETY NOTES
! Read the instructions before using the module.
! Do not modify the module. Unauthorised work on the
module invalidates the transmitter’s operating approval.
If the settings of any components are changed, or if the unit is
damaged, send the module to your nearest MULTIPLEX Ser-
vice Centre for checking.
! Protect the module from mechanical stress (vibration,
shock, distortion) when stored. Protect it from damp, and
store it in a protective ESD bag designed for electronics.
! Always switch the transmitter off before opening the
case. Never carry out any work inside the transmitter
with the power turned on.
Disconnect the transmitter battery to be on the safe side.
3. ESD
NOTES
Electronic devices are sensitive to electrostatic dis-
charge. This module also contains components
which can be damaged in this way. The damage
can occur when charged components dissipate their
charge (potential imbalance), typically when the
components are touched. This can also shorten the compo-
nents’ effective life. The module is supplied in a conductive ESD
bag which provides effective protection from this risk.
It is important to observe the following safety measures when
handling modules which are subject to electrostatic damage:
Earth yourself before fitting the module or removing it from
the transmitter. This can be done by touching a radiator or
similar earthed metal object with your hand.
Open the transmitter (if necessary), and hold it by a large
area in order to allow any potential differences to dissipate.
It should now be safe to remove the module from the con-
ductive ESD protective bag. Avoid touching the electronic
components or solder pads directly. Hold the module only
by the edges of the circuit board.
When the module is out of the transmitter, store it in the
conductive ESD protective bag at all times. Never allow it to
contact ordinary, non ESD-suitable foam plastic, styrofoam
or other plastic material.

EATURES
The Channel-Check PLUS module has two basic functions:
Channel-Check
Automatic protection from channel clashes (two transmitters
on the same frequency) when you switch on the transmitter
Manual scan
Signal strength display (showing channels in use) with man-
ual channel selection (3D digi-adjustor)
When you switch the transmitter on, the Channel-Check func-
tion automatically checks whether the set channel is free before
it allows the RF module to be activated. The transmitter only
starts transmitting if the set channel is found to be vacant (not
already in use); an RF signal is then transmitted. This represents
an important contribution to safety when flying model aircraft, as
it considerably reduces the risk of crashes due to channel
clashes.
Manual Scan mode allows the user to check the transmitter’s
frequency band. The signal strength is shown on the screen in
four stages in place of the usual trim display. The Channel-
Check PLUS module works like a normal radio control receiver.
No RF signal is radiated during scanning operations.

MODULE
! Note: identical frequency band
The frequency band of the Channel-Check PLUS module
must be identical to that of the transmitter!
You will need to open the transmitter case in order to install the
Channel-Check PLUS module; the procedure is described in de-
tail in the COCKPIT SX operating instructions (undo the seven
TORX screws in the back of the transmitter).
! Read the ESD notes (
3.) before proceeding.
The module is simply plugged into the main circuit board of the
COCKPIT SX.
Carefully fit the Channel-Check PLUS module in the transmitter,
then close the transmitter back and fit the screws again.
The Channel-Check PLUS module is now ready for use.

HECK FUNCTION
! Note: always extend the transmitter aerial fully before
you switch the transmitter on !
During the channel-checking procedure the transmitter aerial
acts as a receiver aerial. For this reason it must always be ex-
tended to its full length before you switch the transmitter on, oth-
erwise it could fail to detect a transmitter already operating in the
vicinity.
When you switch the transmitter on, the Channel-Check PLUS
module checks whether the set channel is free. During the
Channel-Check process no RF signal is transmitted (the blue RF
status LED glows constantly). If the set channel is in use, or is
suffering interference, no RF signal will be transmitted. This pre-
vents the danger of the transmitter affecting a model which is
already flying.
If the channel is in use, or if interference is detected, the trans-
mitter emits a quadruple warning sound.
A display similar to the following will appear on the screen:
The selected channel (74), operating on a frequency of 35.140
MHz, is in use or suffering interference. Both trim displays show
the strength of the unwanted signal:
no signal weak moderate strong very
measurable strong
You can now use the 3-D digi-adjustor to select a different
channel, and the module will display the signal strength on that
frequency.
If a weak signal is displayed:
If you are close to other modellers (< 10 m), mixed signals from
the other transmitters may generate an interference signal on
your channel, which the Channel-Check PLUS module in your
C
OCKPIT
SX detects as “channel in use or suffering interference”.
Radio control transmitters which are operating on an adjacent
channel (in our example channel 73 or 75) can also produce an
unwanted signal display (adjacent channel interference).
If this should happen, walk away from the other transmitters. If
the display now changes to “no signal measurable”, the problem
is an ICM (inter-channel modulation) problem or adjacent chan-
nel interference.
Switch the transmitter on again at a little distance from the other
pilots. You will need to switch off, then on again, to do this.
! Caution:
The Channel-Check PLUS function does not remove the re-
quirement for you to carry out frequency control and / or
check with the other pilots!
If your radio installation in the model is inefficient, if it is used in-
correctly, or if a fault occurs, it is still possible that a transmitter
fitted with a Channel-Check Plus module will switch on when the
selected channel is already in use by another transmitter.
8. T
HE MANUAL SCAN FUNCTION
Note: during the scanning process the transmitter does not radi-
ate an RF signal. The RF status LED glows constantly.
Starting a manual scan
To switch a COCKPIT SX transmitter with Channel-Check PLUS
module to scan mode, hold the 3-D digi-adjustor pressed in
while you switch the transmitter on.
The screen displays the frequency (e.g. 35.140 MHz), to which
the Synthesizer of your COCKPIT SX is set. The associated
channel number (74) flashes in the line below this.
Three different displays are now possible:
a. no Channel- b. no signal c. channel in use
Check PLUS measurable or interference
present (signal very
strong)
Manual scan
You can now use the 3-D digi-adjustor to select any of the chan-
nels available on your transmitter, and the module will display
the signal strength on that frequency.
Interpreting the screen displays
If no measurable signal is present on a particular channel (aerial
completely extended and held vertical) (see display b.), this
means the following: there is no radio control transmitter operat-
ing on this channel in a radius of around 300 m.
CAUTION !
The stated range of 300 m varies according to the terrain and
the geographical circumstances, and should only be viewed as
an approximation.
You can build up a “picture” of the actual conditions at your fly-
ing site by selecting the channel of a transmitter which is already
switched on, and walking to particular distinctive points within
the bounds of your field.
9. N
OTES REGARDING MANUAL SCAN MODE
Searching for channels / frequencies in use at a flying site
During the manual scan procedure keep about 10 m away from
other transmitters. This will avoid misleading displays caused by
interactions between transmitters in the immediate vicinity.

ISPOSAL
Electrical equipment marked with the crossed-out
waste bin must not be discarded in the normal do-
mestic waste. Such items must be taken to a suitable
specialist waste centre for proper disposal.
In EU countries (European Union) electrical devices
must not be discarded through the normal domestic
refuse system (WEEE - Waste of Electrical and Electronic
Equipment, directive 2002/96/EG). You can take your unwanted
items to a local authority collection centre or your nearest recy-
cling centre, where the personnel will dispose of your equipment
properly, and at no cost to you.
