1. Prior to Use
1.1 Period and Scope of Warranty
Delivered products are under warranty for a period of one year after delivery.
During the period of warranty, the vendor will have his own to responsibility replace or repair malfunctioning
parts if the product malfunction is the responsibility of the vendor.
However, this warranty does not apply under the following circumstances:
(1) If the user handles or uses the product in an inappropriate way
(2) If the malfunction is caused by something other than the delivered product
(3) If the delivered product has been modified or repaired by anyone other than the vendor
(4) Due to natural disaster, accident, or other reason not the responsibility of the vendor
In this context, the term “warranty” means solely a warranty of the individual delivered product, and does not
include any compensation for the damage caused by malfunction of the delivered product.
1.2 Scope of Service
The service costs such as the costs of sending technical personnel are not included in the price of the delivered
product. Customers will be charged for the following costs:
(1) Assistance with installation adjustments and test running
(2) Maintenance inspections, adjustments, and repairs
(3) Technical assistance and technical training

2. Outline
The Advme8028 is an Intel Atom processor (Z520P)-integrated 6U VME bus single board computer with the single slot
width.
Z520P operates on a frequency of 1.33GHz and incorporates 24kbytes of cache for data, 32kbytes of L1 cache for
command, and 512kbytes of L2 cache for data/command. The Advme8028 is equipped with DDR2-533 SDRAM
(1GB) for main memory. The Atom processor is System on Module (marketed as Catalyst) .
The Advme8028 is equipped with the Gigabit Ether channel (1 ch), USB port (1 ch), and VGA port for front panel
I/O interfaces. It also has a single CompactFlash socket and two PMC slots on board. The Advme8028 offers optional
slot system which allows the 2-ch serial port to be used from the front panel, instead of lessening the PMC slots to one.
The VME interface bus, which is an external bus, has an on-board Advanet PCI-VME bridge, the “NARUTO”.
This board has the following features:
Intel Atom processor Z520P (1.33GHz) VME bus CPU board
On-board DDR2-533 SDRAM (1GB) for main memory
Equipped with system control hub US15W for the chip set
Equipped with 1 channel Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 × 1)
Can use CompactFlash as the storage device (provied with socket, module is optional)
Equipped with a single 32bit/33MHz PMC 2slots, facilitating easy expansion of various functions
No RS232C serial port enabled if two PMC slots are installed
2-ch RS232C serial port enabled if a single PMC slot is installed (Dsub9p × 2)
Boot ROM (On-board , FWH-FLASH Memory)
The BIOS setup information and Real Time Clock are backed up with a litium battery
Provided with 2kbit serial EEPROM (nonvolatile memory)
Interface with the VME bus by the Advanet PCI-VME bridge, “NARUTO”
Can operate as a VME bus master or slave
6U (double height), single slot width VME bus port
Operates with a single 5V power supply from the VME bus
RoHS compliant

6.1 CompactFlash Socket (CN6)
This is the socket for installing CompactFlash, which has a large nonvolatile memory capacity.
Available modules must be compatible with CompactFlash Type I that complies with CF+ and CompactFlash
Revision 2.1 and be capable of operation at 3.3V.
CompactFlashInstall with the power turned off.
The following are recommended CompactFlashes.
Maker : Transcend
Model : TS128MCF100I (128M-byte capacity)
TS256MCF100I (256M-byte capacity)
TS512MCF100I (512M-byte capacity)
TS1GCF100I (1G-byte capacity)
TS2GCF100I (2G-byte capacity)
TS4GCF100I (4G-byte capacity)
TS8GCF100I (8G-byte capacity)
TS16GCF100I (16G-byte capacity)
CompactFlash is designed to be connected as a primary IDE master device. CompactFlash interface used in this
board is not hot-swappable. The CompactFlash card must be inserted and removed with power off.
6.2 PMC Connector (J1 to 2,5 to 6)
This connector is for installation of the PMC expansion module.
The Advme8028 is compatible with only a PMC module that complies with specifications provided in table 6.2.
When installing the PMC module, remove the PMC blank panel.
See Section 9.5 to 9.6 for pin assignments.
[Table 6.2] PMC module specification
(*1) For supplying 12V or -12V power to the PMC module, this board needs the same power supply via
the VME P1 connector.
