1.2 Operating Safety
Before using light tower be sure you read and understand all instructions! Equipment operated improperly or by
untrained personnel can be dangerous! Read the operating instructions and familiarize yourself with the location and
proper use of all instruments and controls. Inexperienced operators should receive instruction from someone familiar
with the equipment before being allowed to operate or set up the machine.
The area immediately surrounding the light tower
should be clean, neat, and free of debris.
Position and operate light tower on a firm, level
surface.
Never start a unit in need of repair.
Lower tower when not in use, or if high winds or
electrical storms are expected in the area.
Make certain light tower is well grounded and securely
fastened to a good earthen ground.
The tower extends up to 30 ft. (9 m). Make sure area
above trailer is open and clear of overhead wires and
obstructions.
Bulbs become extremely hot in use! Allow bulb and
fixture to cool 1015 minutes before handling.
Keep area behind trailer clear of people while raising
and lowering mast! Never raise, lower or turn mast
while unit is operating!
Trailer must be leveled and outriggers extended
before raising tower. Outriggers must remain ex-
tended while tower is up.
If for any reason any part of mast hangs up or winch
cable develops slack while raising or lowering tower,
STOP immediately! Contact an authorized WACK-
ER service representative.
NEVER remove safety pin or pull mast locking pin
while tower is up!
NEVER use tower if insulation on electrical cord is
cut or worn through.
NEVER operate lights without protective lens cover
in place or with a lens cover that is cracked or
damaged!
NEVER adjust mast while unit is operating.
NEVER raise the mast or operate the light tower in
high winds.
DO NOT run engine indoors or in an area with poor
ventilation unless exhaust hoses are used.
DO NOT fill fuel tank near an open flame, while
smoking, or while engine is running.
DO NOT fill tank in an enclosed area with poor
ventilation.
DO NOT touch or lean against hot exhaust pipes or
engine cylinder.
DO NOT operate with the fuel tank cap loose or
missing.
DO NOT remove engine coolant cap while engine is
hot.
DO NOT clean air filter with gasoline or other types
of low flash point solvents.
Keep area around hot exhaust pipes free of debris to
reduce the chance of an accidental fire.

1A OPERATION LIGHT TOWER
1.4 Towing Safety
Towing a trailer requires care! Both the trailer and vehicle must be in good condition and securely fastened to each other
to reduce the possibility of an accident.
Open main circuit breaker before disconnecting bat-
tery cables.
Keep hands, feet, and loose clothing away from mov-
ing parts on generator and engine.
Replace all missing and hard-to-read labels. Labels
provide important operating instructions and warn of
dangers and hazards.
Make sure slings, chains, hooks, ramps, jacks, and
other types of lifting devices are attached securely and
have enough weight-bearing capacity to lift or hold the
equipment safely. Always remain aware of the posi-
tion of other people around you when lifting the equip-
ment.
1.5 Service Safety
Replace all guards and safety devices immediately
after servicing.
Before servicing light tower, make sure engine start
switch is turned to OFF, circuit breakers are open (off),
and negative terminal on battery is disconnected.
NEVER perform even routine service (oil/filter changes,
cleaning, etc.) unless all electrical components are
shut down.
Never allow water to accumulate around the base of
the light tower set. If water is present, DO NOT
service!
Never service electrical components if clothing or skin
is wet.
Check that the hitch and coupling on the towing
vehicle are rated equal to, or greater than, the trailer's
"gross vehicle weight rating" (GVWR).
Inspect the hitch and coupling for wear or damage.
DO NOT tow trailer using defective parts!
Make sure the coupling is securely fastened to the
vehicle.
Check tires on trailer for tread wear, inflation, and
condition.
Connect safety chains.
Make sure directional, backup, and trailer lights are
connected and working properly.
Check that lug nuts holding wheels are tight and that
none are missing.
Maximum recommended speed for highway towing is
45 MPH. Recommended off-road towing speed is not
to exceed 10 MPH or less depending on terrain.
If light tower is equipped with surge brakes, connect
breakaway chain safety hook to the bumper or rear of
the vehicle.
Test surge or electric brakes on light tower and brakes
on towing vehicle to be sure they are operating
properly, if light tower is so equipped.
The optional electric brake system requires a cab-
mounted electronic brake controller. Refer to opera-
tion instructions for your cab-mounted electric brake
controller for proper brake actuator adjustment and
brake system operation.
ALWAYS refer to the applicable Department of Trans-
portation regulations before towing.

1A OPERATION LIGHT TOWER
The tower extends up to 30 ft. (9 m). Make sure area
above trailer is open and clear of overhead wires
and obstructions.
1.11 Locating Trailer
1. For maximum light coverage locate tower at ground
level or in a spot higher than the area being lighted.
2. Position trailer on a firm, flat surface clear of overhead
wires and obstructions. Be sure that there is enough
area for outrigger extensions to be fully extended.
3. Connect ground stud (l) located on trailer frame to a
good earthen ground.
1.12 Leveling Trailer
Trailer must be leveled and outriggers extended
before raising tower. Outriggers must remain ex-
tended while tower is up. Failure to level trailer or
extend outriggers will severely reduce the stability of
the unit and could allow tower to tip and fall.
1. Pull locking pin on tongue jack (a) and rotate jack 90°
as shown in illustration above. Make sure jack snaps
into position.
Block or chock trailer wheels (b). Crank jack down to
raise trailer tongue off vehicle.
2. Pull outrigger lock pin (c) to release outrigger (see
opposite page). Pull both outrigger extensions (d) out
until you feel pin lock back in place. Rotate jacks (e)
down until they snap into position.
3. Rotate rear jack (f) down, as shown, making sure it
snaps into place.
4. Extend jack(s) on the highest side(s) of the trailer until
they rest firmly on the ground. Extend remaining jacks
until trailer is level.

5. Later models have a reversible hitch (n). Use either
the 2" ball or pintle end.
6. Use tongue jack (a) to raise trailer tongue up and then
lower it over hitch on towing vehicle. Lock hitch to
coupling and attach safety chains. Swivel tongue jack
90° and lock it in place.
7. Connect trailer wiring to towing vehicle. Check brake,
turn, and tail lights for proper operation.
8. Position light fixtures down (k). For rough, off-road
transportation remove bulbs from fixtures to avoid
damage.
9. Check tire inflation.
10. Attach red flag to end of mast before towing.
CAUTION: Maximum recommended speed for high-
way towing is 45 MPH. Recommended off-road towing
speed is not to exceed 10 MPH or less depending on
terrain.
1.14 Preparing Trailer for Towing or
Lifting
1. On units equipped with electric winch check that
telescoping lock pin (m) is in place and secured with
safety pin.
On units using manual winches check that mast
cradle lock pin (j) is in place and secured with safety
pin.
2. Make sure doors are properly latched.
3. Return outriggers to their travel position (i). Check
that outrigger bars and jacks are locked in place.
4. Crank rear jack (f) all the way in and rotate it 90°.
The light tower is now ready to lift. For towing, continue.

3. Check winch cable for wear or damage, and make
sure it is resting properly in pulleys (n).
4. Using the winch located on the trailer tongue (o),
raise the mast to the vertical position until mast
locking pin (p) locks mast into place.
HIGH VOLTAGE! DO NOT use tower if insulation on
cord is cut or worn through. Repair or replace cord.
Bare wires in contact with the metal frame of the
trailer or tower can cause electrocution.
NEVER allow anyone to stand near the rear of the
unit during this operation.
1.15 Raising Tower (Manual Winch System)
1. Remove cradle lock pin (j) from cradle.
2. Check electrical cord for damage.
NEVER remove safety pin (r) or pull mast lock-
ing pin (p) while tower is up! Releasing locking
pin will cause mast to fall.
6. After tower is up and locked in place, use winch on
mast (q) to extend the mast to the desired height.
CAUTION: Do not extend tower beyond red marking
on middle mast tube!
See illustration on page 1-11.
7. Release the mast rotation locking knob (s). Rotate
mast until lights face the desired direction and tighten
knob.
