Safety Information
Only use this product in countries where the authorities have
issued permission for its use.
The CE label on the product certifies that it conforms with tech-
nical directives for user safety and electromagnetic compatibil-
ity valid when it was certified (EU directive 91\263\EEC).
Refer to the other documentation supplied with the parts of
your telephone system.
Power Supply The product requires a 230 V AC power supply. The power
can only be disconnected by withdrawing the AC adapter
from the mains socket.
Safety
Precautions
• Do not open the handset, the charger or the docking station
(accessory), because this could expose you to live parts.
Have all repairs carried out by qualified service personnel.
• Do not let the charger and battery terminals come into con-
tact with conductive objects like keys, paper clips, rings or
bracelets.
• Do not let the handset and charger come into contact with
water or chemicals.
• Only use the supplied AC adapter and battery pack.
• Do not use AC adapters with visible signs of damage (frac-
tures or cracks in the casing).
• Do not operate the handset in vehicles or in areas where
there is risk of an explosion.
Use This handset, like any cordless telephone, operates with radio
signals that cannot always guarantee setup of a connection.
So never rely exclusively on a cordless telephone when com-
munication is absolutely essential, e.g. in a medical emer-
gency.

Installation
Location Place the charger on a flat, even surface or attach it securely
to the wall. When locating the charger, handset and accesso-
ries (see page 28), avoid the following:
• Water, moisture and damp
• Sources of heat, direct sunlight and poor ventilation
• Equipment that generates strong magnetic fields, electrical
appliances, fluorescent lamps, computers, radio and televi-
sion sets, fax and phone terminals
• Places where the equipment can be screened off, ventilation
hindered and where fluids can get into it
• Dusty places and places exposed to vibration, shock or
extreme temperature fluctuations
Locate and keep the handset and its accessories (see page
28) out of the reach of small children.
Inserting/
Removing
Battery Pack
The battery pack is installed on the back of the handset. It can
only be inserted into the battery compartment from above (do
not try to insert it from below or sideways).
• Place it in the battery compartment – as shown – over the
guide pins (1). The bottom end of the battery pack will then
protrude beyond the lower edge of the handset by about 1
cm.
• Slide the battery pack upwards until it engages (2).
To remove the battery pack, proceed as follows:
• Press the locking button (3) and, at the same time,
slide the battery pack out by about 1 cm.
• Lift out the battery pack.

Charger For operation of the charger
you need a 230 V AC mains
outlet. If you use the charger
on a desktop, first mount the
pedestal by engaging it in the
holes on the rear, as shown.
For wall mounting you need
two screws with a maximum
diameter of 4 mm and spaced
34 mm apart. The heads of the
screws should protrude from
the wall by 2.5 to 3 mm. Hang
the charger from the screws.
Connect the cable of the AC
adapter to the port on the side of the charger and plug the AC
adapter into the mains outlet.
Important Information about the Battery
Note: Only use the battery for its intended purpose. Never use
a damaged or flat battery.
Heat and cold degrade battery performance and service life.
The ambient temperature should be between 15 and 25°C. A
handset with a hot or cold battery may not function correctly
sometimes, even if the battery is fully charged.
Dispose of used batteries as prescribed by local authorities.
Return them for recycling if possible.
Never throw batteries into a fire!

Charging and
Discharging
A battery may be charged and discharged hundreds of times,
but eventually it will be used up. When you notice that operat-
ing time (i.e. talking and standby time) is much shorter than
normal, it is time to replace a battery.
If, for any reason whatsoever, you do not use the charger for a
longish period, withdraw the AC adapter from the mains out-
let. Overcharging can reduce the useful life of a battery, so do
not leave a battery in the charger for more than one week. A
fully charged but unused battery discharges in about one
week at room temperature.
To produce long operating times, you should discharge the
battery from time to time, i.e. do not place the handset in the
charger and leave it switched on until it switches itself off. Do
not discharge the battery in any other way.
Extreme temperatures affect the ability of a battery to charge.
Charging the Battery
First-time
Startup
Charge the battery for at least eight hours before using the
handset for the first time. This helps to lengthen the battery’s
useful life. Place the handset in the charger regularly to obtain
the optimum battery charge.
Charging a
Spare Battery
To charge a spare battery, open the flap on the inside of the
charger (1). Insert the spare battery in the compartment (2)
and then close it again with the flap (3).

Time
Charging time (flat battery) to full capacity: 8 hrs for the hand-
set, and about 24 hrs for the spare battery in the charger. The
handset is fully functional while its battery is charging.
Talking time: approx. 8 hrs (with a fully charged battery)
Standby time: approx. 80 hrs (with a fully charged battery)
Charge Display The battery charge is indicated on the display by the following
symbols:
A Battery fully charged
A 50% battery charge remaining
a Battery almost flat – left segment flashes
A Battery flat
A Charge status being determined –
border flashes (e.g. after changing the battery)
The flashing segments indicate that charging is in progress
when the handset is in the charger.
Charge
Warning
You are warned when the battery’s capacity is almost spent: If
you are not on the phone, you hear a short beep every
minute. During a call you hear three short beeps every minute.
This means you have about 5 mins.’ talking time left.
If you switch on the handset when the battery is almost flat, the
display is briefly activated and then goes off.

Your handset can operate on a maximum of ten different DECT
systems. For this purpose it has to be registered on each DECT
system.
Refer to page 23 for details of how to register your handset
with a DECT system.

Softkeys and Cancel Key
The three keys (including the arrow
keys) below the display are called
softkeys. The functions associated
with these keys appear in the bot-
tom line of the display. The function
of a key changes automatically
with the operating status of the
handset.

Above the arrow keys you see icons indicating their function:
$ If a continuous text appears on the display, you can use
the arrow keys to scroll it up and down.
> When a selection list (e.g. telephone book or menu)
appears on the display, you can use the arrow keys to
steer the cursor to the required entry.
% Allows you to select from the redial stack.
< Possibility of changing the assignment of the left and
right softkey.
& When entering telephone numbers or names, you can
make changes by shifting a cursor. The arrow keys shift
the cursor to the beginning or end of the entry.
Softkey: OK Use OK to confirm the selected function.
Softkey: Next Use the right-hand softkey Next to change the assignment of the
left-hand softkey.
Softkey: Esc Use the Esc softkey to quit the displayed menu. The display
then returns to the options of the previous menu or the current
operating status (idle or call).
Cancel Key c cancels your menu choice without saving the last entry. In
digit/letter entries it deletes the last character. Prolonged pres-
sure on c deletes the complete entry.

You can lock the keypad to prevent keys from being pressed
accidentally. Press the
Menu softkey, select $Key$lock$ with the
arrow keys and confirm with
OK. To unlock, enter (as shown in
the display) 1 and then #. While the keylock is acti-
vated, you can answer calls as usual and also use all keys dur-
ing a call. The keylock reactivates at the end of a call.
Handset
Volume
Use +/- to change the volume of the earpiece. A beep
tells you when you have reached the highest or lowest volume.
Muting If the Mute softkey is displayed during a call, you can deacti-
vate the microphone of the handset.
UnMute activates it again.
Charge Display If your network operator/telephone system transmits charge data,
this will appear in the first display line during or after a sub-
scriber-dialled external call. The sum counter of your handset is
on the left, and on the right you see the current charges. For sub-
scriber-dialled consultation calls the current counter begins at
0.00 each time; the sum counter adds up the charges incurred by
the held call. At the end of a call you briefly see the current total
sum. This also appears if charge data is not displayed until the
end of a call. There is no charges display/summing if you your-
self end a call. Refer to page 17 for details of setting the charge
counter.
Making a Call Dialling:
Press h and dial the number.
Predialling:
Enter the number and press h.
Correcting entry:
c: deletes the last digit; keep
pressed to delete the entire number.
C: moves the cursor to the beginning
or end of the number.
Menu activates the menu list (see page 15).
Note: If your number is more than 12 digits long, the display
automatically switches to a smaller resolution (max. 24 digits
in two lines).

times). You see a list of the last ten
numbers dialled.
Dialling:
Press h to dial the selected
number.
Predialling:
Press h longer than 2 seconds
and the selected number is prepared
for dialling. If necessary, use C to move to the beginning or
end of the number and add digits to it. Press h to dial.
Hold c down to terminate predialling.
TelBook enters a number in the telephone book (see page 22).
Menu activates the menu list (see page 15).

Selection: In idle state press Tel-
Book. The list shows the entries in
your programmed sequence. Use
the C keys to select an entry.
Dialling: Press h to dial the
selected number.
Predialling:
Press h longer than 2 seconds and the selected number is

terminate predialling.
Search allows you to look for an entry by entering a letter (see
page 22 for keypad assignment). A search starts automatically
after character entry. If the search is successful, all entries appear
in alphabetical order. Press
Esc if no entry is found.
Next changes the function of the left-hand softkey. The dis-
played functions are explained on page 21.
Call with the
SOS Key
Press S to dial a frequently used number or an emergency
services number (see page 16 for details of saving the
number). You cannot dial this number if the keylock is acti-
vated.

Call from the
Caller List
Your handset saves the numbers of the last ten callers (if your net-
work allows the numbers to be transmitted) in the caller list. All
numbers are saved, whether you answered the call or not. You
can call straight from the caller list or transfer a number to your
telephone book (see page 22).
Answering
aCall
When you are called, you can see
the caller’s number on the display
(i.e. if transmitted). If this number is
also listed in your telephone book,
you see the caller’s name instead
of the number. Press h to
answer the call.
Reject allows you to reject a call.
Menu activates the menu list (see page 15).
Consulting/
Transfer
During a call you can change the
softkey functions by pressing C:
Recall or R holds your first call.
Then dial the other number. Press
Recall or R again to return to the
first caller (press repeatedly to alter-
nate between the other parties).
h transfers your first call to the
consulted subscriber.
Mute/UnMute deactivates and reactivates the handset’s micro-
phone.
TelBook enters the number in the telephone book (see page
22).
Menu activates the menu list (see page 15).

Postdialling
During a call you can postdial DTMF with the numeric keys
and *, # to query an answerphone, for example.

external). You can also choose whether calls are signalled by
