When you connect yourvideo recorder to yourtelevisionand plug it into the
mains, you willbe welcomed with an OSDpicture. All youhave to do is follow
the instructionsin the "intelligenthelp line" for the nextstep. Enjoythe Automatic
TV channel search/savefunction and the automatictime adjustment.
We guarantee that yourvideo recorder willswitch tothe new millennium with

Recordings made on yourvideo recorder can be controlledby an external
satellite receiver.
This function automaticallytransfersall the televisionchannel settingsonto

How to connect your video recorder to the
TV set
We recommend the useof a scart cable. Thiswill give youthe
best picture and soundquality.
When you installyour video recorderfor the firsttime, please
read:
E If your TV sethas a scart socketand you are usinga
scart cable, pleaseread the section ’Connectingwith a
scart cable’.
E The section ’Connecting withouta scart cable’,when you
don’t use a scartcable.

a Switch off the TV set.
b Remove the aerial cable plug fromyour TV set and insert
it into the 2 socket at the back of the videorecorder.
c Plug one end of the aerial cable providedinto the 3
socket on the videorecorder and the otherend into the
aerial input socketon your TV set.
d Plug one end of the scart cable intothe EXT.1 AV 1 scart
socket at the backof the video recorderand the other
end into the scartsocket on your TVset (see instruction
manual TV set).
e Switch on the TV set.
f Insert one end of the mainscable into the mainssocket
4 at the back of the video recorder andthe other end
into the wall socket.
g When your TV set automaticallyswitchesto programme
number e.g.: ’EXT’, ’0’,or ’AV’, thistext willappear on the

Connecting a decoder or other equipment
You can connect additional equipmentto the EXT.2 AV 2
socket. For example:a decoder, a satellitereceiveror a
camera recorder.

Initial installation
a Open up the battery compartmentof your remote control
and place the batteriesin it as shownin the picture.
b Close the battery compartment.
c Confirm the picture on the TV screenwith the OK button
on the remote control.
d Select the language for the on-screendisplay (OSD)with
the P r or P q button.
The display on the videorecorder willonly show English
text.
e Confirm with the OK button.
’Automatic TV channel search’starts.This picture will
appear on the screen:

f When all TV channels have been found, ’READY’ will
appear on the TV screen.

Allocating a decoder
Some TV stationswill send coded TV channels,that you can
only watch when youuse a decoder. You can connect sucha
decoder (descrambler)to your video recorder.With the
following function,the connected decoder will automatically
be activated for theTV programme you wantto watch.
a Switch on the TV set. Ifrequired, select theprogramme
number for the videorecorder.
b Choose the television channel on whichyou wish to use
the decoder with the P q or P r buttonson the video
recorder or the numberbuttons 0-9 on the remote
control.
c Press the MENU button on the remote control. The main
menu will appear.
d Select the line ’MANUAL SEARCH’ with the P q or
P r button.
e Confirm with the OK button.
f Press the INDEXE button. ’DEC’ willappear in the
display.

This channel is now assignedto the decoder.
Manual TV channel search
In certain casesthe ’Automatic TV channelsearch’ may not be
able to find all ofthe TV channels (e.g.coded TV channels). In
that case, use thismanual method to setthe channels.
DWhen you search for TVchannels manually, youcan
choose between the indicationfor ’channel’ or
’frequency’. Pleaseread the next paragraph
’Channel number or frequencydisplay’.
a Switch on the TV set. Ifrequired, select theprogramme
number for the videorecorder.
b Press the MENU button on the remote control. The main
menu will appear.
c Select the line ’MANUAL SEARCH’ with the P q or
P r buttonand confirm with the OK button.

channel. A changing channel number orfrequency will
appear on the screen.
DIf you know the frequencyor channel number ofthe
desired TV channel, youcan enter the informationin

DTo enter a special/hyperbandchannel, you must
enter a ’9’ beforethe first channeldigit. The
indication changes from’CH’ to ’CA’. Forexample,
for special channel ’S30’, enter ’930’.
DIf the picture or soundquality is poor,you might
have selected the wrongTV system.Press the
SYSTEM button to change the TV system.
e Confirm with the OK button.
f With the P q or P r button or with the number buttons
0-9 , select the programmenumber you wantto give to
this TV channel, forinstance, ’P01’.
g Confirm with the OK button.
If you want toallocate more TV channels,repeat steps
d through g .
h To end, press the TV/STANDBYm button.
Channel number or frequency display
You can switch between thedisplay for ’channelnumber’ or
’frequency’ for manualchannel search.
a Switch on the TV set. Ifrequired, select theprogramme
number for the videorecorder.
b Press the MENU button on the remote control. The main
menu will appear.
c Select the line ’CHANNEL/FREQUENCY’ with the
P r or P q buttonand confirm with the OK button.
d With the P q button, select ’CHANNEL’or
FREQUENCY’ and confirm withthe OK button.
e To end, press the TV/STANDBY m button.
Satellite receiver
You can receive channels fromthe satellitereceiver viathe
scart socket EXT.2 AV 2 .
To do this, selectthe channel number ’E2’ bypressing the
buttons P q or P r . You will haveto select the channelsto
be received by the satellitereceiveron the receiver itself.

You can select one of thefollowing installationfunctions in
order to adapt the videorecorder to yourown specific
requirements.
Automatic TV channel allocation(Follow
TV)
With this function,the video recorderstores thechannels in
the same order ason the TV set. Thisonly worksif the video
recorder (socket EXT.1 AV 1 ) and the TV set are connected
with a scart cable.You must switchoff any equipment
connected to socket EXT.2 AV 2 .
a Switch on the TV set. Ifrequired, select theprogramme
number for the videorecorder.
b Press the MENU button on the remote control. The main
menu will appear.

g Wait until, for example,’TV02’ appears.
h Select the next programme number,for example, ’2’on
the TV set.
i Confirm with the OK button on thevideo
recorder-remote control.
DIf you allocated the wrongTV channeL, you can go
back one step withthe D/Sr button.
j Repeat steps g to i until all TV channelshave been
allocated.
k To end, press the TV/STANDBYm button.
Automatic TV channel search
The video recorder willsearch for allTV channels.
If you want tostart the automaticTV channel search again,
then follow the instructionsbelow.
a Switch on the TV set. Ifrequired, select theprogramme
number for the videorecorder.
b Press the MENU button on the remote control. The main
menu will appear.
c Select the line ’AUTOSEARCH’ with the P r or P q
button.
d Press the OK button. The ’Automatic TV channel search’
starts.

Monitor function
You can switch backwardsand forwards betweenTV picture
and video recorder picturewith the MONITOR button. But this
only works whenyou use a scartcable to connect the video
recorder to your TVset and if yourTV set respondsto this
switch-over.
Sorting and clearing TV channels manually
You can assign any programmenumber to a TV channelthat
you have stored andyou can also delete unwantedTV
channels.
a Switch on the TV set. Ifrequired, select theprogramme
number for the videorecorder.
b Press the MENU button on the remote control. The main
menu will appear.
c Select the line ’CHANNEL ALLOCATION’ with P r or
P q buttonand confirm with the OK button.

Setting the language
You can select the language forthe on-screen display(OSD).
The small displayon the video recorderwill only showenglish
text.
a Switch on the TV set. Ifrequired, select theprogramme
number for the videorecorder.
b Press the MENU button on the remote control. The main
menu will appear.
c Select the line ’LANGUAGE’ and confirmwith the OK
button.
d Select your language with the P r or P q button and
confirm with the OK button.
e To end, press the TV/STANDBY m button.
Setting the time and date
DIf a TV channel which transmitsTXT/PDC isstored
under programme number ’P01’,time anddate will
automatically be takenfrom the TXT/PDC
information.
If the time inthe video recorder displayis not
correct or if ’--:--appears in the display,please
set the clock manually.

General information
DYou can switch on with the STOPh button, the
0-9 buttons or byputting in a cassette.
DIf you do not use thevideo recorder fora few
minutes, it willswitch to standbyautomatically.
Please read the section’Automatic switch-off(tuner
mode)’ in chapter ADDITIONALFUNCTIONS.
DIf you have switchedthe video recorder offwith the
TV/STANDBYm button, the time willshow in the
display, for instance, ’18:00’.
If the clock hasnot been set, ’--:--will appear.
DKeep your video recorder connectedto the mains at
all times to ensurethat programmedrecordings can
be made and that the televisionworksnormally.
DWhen the video recorder isnot plugged into the
mains, it willusually storeTV channels for a year,
and date and timer informationfor sevenhours.
Saving energy
There are two waysto switch tostandby.
Switching to standbywith clock display:Switch tostandby
using the TV/STANDBYm button. The time willbe displayed.
To save energy: Pressthe TV/STANDBYm button twice. The
time will disappearfrom the display.
Emergency interrupt
You can use the TV/STANDBYm button on the video recorder
or the remote controlto interrupt anyfunction.
So if you are havingoperating problems,you can just interrupt
the function and startagain.
And you can practise operatingyour setwithout any worries.
No matter which buttonsyou press,you cannot damage it.

Playing a cassette
a Put a cassette into the cassetteslot.v’ will appear on
the display.
b Press the PLAY G button.
c To stop, press the STOP h button.
d To eject the cassette, pressthe STOP/EJECT ? button
on the video recorder.
DSome functions switchoff automaticallyafter a
while (for example,pause, stillpicture, picture
search). This helpsto protect the cassetteand
avoids wastingpower.
Playing NTSC cassettes
With this setyou can playback cassettesthathave been
recorded on another videorecorder in the NTSCstandard (for
example, American cassettes).But this only works for
PAL-televisionsets which aresuitable for a picturefrequency
of 60 Hz.
DSome special features (forexample, stillpicture) are
not possible whileyou are playing an NTSC
cassette.
Tape position indication
By pressing the OK button, youcan show the presenttape
position on the TV screen.
If you want tosee the tape position,you can select ’LINEAR
COUNTER’ (to show thepresent position onthe tape in hours,
minutes and seconds)or ’TIME LEFT’.
DWhen you play an NTSC cassette,the video
recorder will onlyshow ’LINEAR COUNTER’.
a Switch on the TV set. Ifrequired, select theprogramme
number for the videorecorder.
b Press the MENU button on the remote control. The main
menu will appear.
c Select the line ’COUNTER’ with the P q or P r button
and confirm with the OK button.
d Select the type of counter withthe P q button and
confirm with the OK button.
DTo reset the tape positionLINEAR COUNTER’to
’0:00:00’,press the CLEAR(CL), y button.
e To end, press the TV/STANDBY m button.
DThis video recorder willautomatically recognisethe
length of the tape.
DWhen you put a cassettein the video recorderand
you want to see ’TIME LEFT’,the video recorder
must firstcalculate the time played.Therefore, ’-:--’
appears firstand only after thetape has been
running for a few secondsthe playing timewill be
shown.
DIf the video recorderdoes not find a recordingat a
certain tape positionwith ’LINEAR COUNTER
switched on, the counterwill stop.
Searching for tape positionwith the picture
(picture search)
a While a cassette is playing,press the [ (reverse)or
I (forward) buttononce or severaltimes.
b To stop at a certain picture,press the PLAY G button.
DDuring picture search, thepicture quality maynot be
so good and there willbe no sound.
Still picture
a Press the STILL R button. A still picture willappear on
the screen.
Interference stripeswill appear onthe screen.
b Each time you press STILL R again, the picture will
move on one step.

Searching for tape positionwithout the
picture (wind and rewind)
a Stop the tape with the STOP h button.
b Press the [ (reverse) or I (forward) button.
c To stop at a certain picture,press the STOP h button.
Instant View
With this functionyou can switchto picture search during
wind and rewind.
a If you hold the [ (rewind) or I (wind) button
during wind or rewind,you will switchto picture search.
b When you release the button, thevideo recorder will
automatically switchback to rewindor wind.
Automatic search for a tape position
(index search)
At the startof each recording, the videorecorder willwrite an
index code on the tape.
a Press the INDEXE button and then the I button to
select the nextcode mark or the [ button for the
previous code mark.
b When the video recorder findsthe code mark, itwill
automatically switchto play.
Automatic search for a blank space on the
tape
You can search for a spaceon the tape (at least1 minute of
blank tape) for anew recording, for example,after an existing
recording on the tape.
a Press the INDEXE button. Then press the STOP h
button.
b When the video recorder find ablank space, it will
automatically switchto ’pause’.
DIf no empty space hasbeen found when the end of
the tape is reached,the cassette willbe ejected.

Picture interference
When the picture qualityis poor whenyou play a cassette,
please follow theseinstructions.
Tracking during playback
a While a cassette is playing,hold the P q button until
’TRAC’ (tracking)appears on the display.
b Hold the P r or P q buttonuntil the picture qualityis
at its best.
c Wait a few seconds, until’TRAC’ disappearsfrom the
display. This picturesetting willnot change until you
eject the cassette.
Tracking during still picture
If the stillpicture vibratesvertically,you can improve thestill
picture as follows:
a During still picture, holdthe P q or P r button until
the picture qualityis at itsbest.
The video recorder willstore thissetting automatically.
DPlease note, however, thatinterference maystill
occur with poor qualitycassettes.
Cleaning the video heads
If horizontal linesappear on the screenwhen you play a
cassette, you shouldclean the video heads.
a While a cassette is playing,hold the PLAY G button until
’HEAD’ appears on the display.The video headswill now
be cleaned. The video recorderwill automaticallyswitch
to play again.

Use ’Manual Recording’to make a spontaneousrecording (for
example, a programmecurrently being shown).
E If you want tostart and stopa recording manually,read
the section: ’Recordingwithout automaticswitch-off’.
E If you want tostart a recordingmanually but have it
stopped automatically,read the section:’Recording with

Protecting your recordings
So that you don’t accidentallydelete an importantrecording,
remove the specialtab on the narrow sideof the cassettewith
a screwdriveror slide the specialtab to the left.Later, if you
no longer want to protectyour recording,you can seal the gap
again with stickytape or slidethe special tab to theright.

Auto-assembling
You can use the auto-assemblingfunction tojoin individual
recordings withoutany major picturedisturbance between
them.
a While the cassette isplaying, search forthe correct
position on the tape.
b Stop the cassette by pressingthe STOP h button.9

c Now start recording as usualby pressingthe
RECORD/OTRn button on the remotecontrol.
Automatic recording from a satellite
receiver (SAT RECORDING)
You can only use thisfunction, when you havea satellite
receiver which can controlother equipment bya
’programming’ function.
a Use a scart cable to connect thescart socket
EXT.2 AV 2 to the scart socket on thesatellite receiver.
b Put a cassette in the machine.Switch off withthe
TV/STANDBYm button on the remote control.
c Hold the MONITOR buton on the remote control, until
’SAT.P’ appears on thevideo recorder display.
The video recorder isnow ready to record.The
EXT.2 AV 2 plug controls the start and theend of the
recording.
DWhen this function isswitched on and the video
recorder is switchedoff, ’x’ appearson the video
recorder display.
DIf you want to cancel thisfunction beforethe
recording has started,you must holdthe
MONITOR button until ’SAT.P’disappears.
DIf you want to cancel thisfunction whilea
programme is being recorded,press the
TV/STANDBYm button on the remote control.
Switching on ’DirectRecord’
When this functionis switched on,the video recorder will
automatically recordthe programme selectedon the television
by means of a scartcable.
DThe video recorder mustbe switched off.
a Switch on the TV set and selectthe programme number
for the video recorder.
b Press the MENU button on the remote control. The main
menu will appear.
c Select the line ’DIRECT RECORD’ with the P r or
P q button.
d Confirm with the OK button.
e Select the function ’ONwith the P q button. Ifyou
select ’OFF’, the functionwill be switchedoff.
f Confirm with the OK button.
g On the TV set, select the programmenumber you wantto
record from.
h Press the RECORD/OTR n button with the video recorder
switched off.
DDon’t select another programmenumber on your TV
set, until the’search symbol’on the video recorder
display has disappeared.This can takeup to one
minute.
DIf ’NOTV’ appears on thevideo recorder display,this
means the video recordercannot find this
programme number. Inthis case, read thesection
’Recording without automaticswitch-off’.

Use programmed recordingto automaticallystart and stopa
recording at a laterdate.
To make a programmed recording,your videorecorder needs
to know:
* the date you wantto make the recording;
* the programme numberfor the TV channel youwant to
record;
* the startand stop time of therecording;
* whether you wantto use VPS or PDC
The video recorder storesall the informationin a TIMERblock.
You can programme up to 6TIMER blocks amonth in advance.
’VPS’ (Video Programming System) and
’PDC’ (Programme DeliveryControl)
With ’VPS and PDC’,the TV station controlsthe starttime and
the length of the recording.This means thatthe video recorder
switches itselfon and off at theright time evenif a TV
programme you want torecord begins earlieror finisheslater
than expected.
Usually the starttime isthe same as the VPSor PDC time. But
if your TV guide givesa VPS or PDCtime which is differentto
the programme’s starttime (forexample, 20.15and VPS 20.14),
you must enter ’20.14’as the start time.
If you want toprogramme a time thatis differentfrom the VPS
or PDC time, youmust switch offVPS or PDC.
Programming a recording
(with ’SHOWVIEW’)
All the importantinformation needed fora programming is
contained in the SHOWVIEW-programmingnumber.
a Switch on the TV set and selectthe programme number
for the video recorder.
b Press the TIMER button on the remote control.
c Enter the entire SHOWVIEW-number(up to 9 digits)
printed in your TVguide next to the starttime ofa TV
programme.
For example, 5-312-4or 5 312 4
Enter 53124for the SHOWVIEW-number.
If you make a mistake,you can clearyour instructions
with the CLEAR(CL), y button.

can only be used forrecordings to be made from
Monday to Friday.

P q button,you will add 15minutes to theend time.
