b) AC adapter
The design of the plug-in power adapter complies with IEC Protection Class II (double insu-
lated electrical appliances). Use only a standard mains socket as the power source for the
power adapter.
The power socket into which the power adapter is inserted must be easily accessible.
Only use the power adapter provided to power the docking station.
Do not pull the power adapter from the mains socket by pulling on the cable. Hold it on the
sides of the casing and pull it out of the mains socket.
Never touch a power adapter that shows signs of damage, as this could cause a fatal electric
shock!
First, switch off the mains voltage to the socket to which the power adapter is connected
(switch off at the corresponding circuit breaker or, for example, remove the safety fuse or
switch off at the corresponding RCD protective switch, so that the socket is fully disconnected).
You can then unplug the power adapter from the mains socket. Dispose of the faulty power
adapter in an environmentally friendly way, do not use it any more. Replace it with a power
adapter of the same design.
c) Operation
The product is only intended for use in dry indoor locations. No part of the product should
become damp or wet; never handle it if your hands are wet!
Power adapters pose the potential risk of a fatal electric shock!
Choose a stable, even, at and sufciently large surface for setting up the docking station.
Never use the product immediately after moving it from a cold room into a warm one. The
condensation that forms may damage the product under certain circumstances. A power unit
also carries the risk of a potentially fatal electric shock!
Allow the product to reach room temperature before connecting it to the power supply and
putting it into use. In some cases, this may take several hours.
When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor pinched.

Getting started
Switch on your computer, if not done yet, and wait until the operating system has nished loading.
Insert the enclosed CD into the corresponding drive on your computer. If the installation program does not
start automatically, open the CD main directory and start the “setup.exe“ program. Follow all instructions
given by the software or Windows.
Latest drivers are available at www.displaylink.com.
Afterwards, it may be necessary to restart.
Connect the round low voltage plug of the enclosed power adapter to the corresponding connector on the
back of the docking station.
Connect the power adapter to the mains voltage; i.e. plug it into a mains socket.
Connect the USB type C™ connector of the docking station to an available USB connector on your com-
puter.
A conventional USB2.0 port cannot deliver the required amounts of data (for the image display
on the connected monitors) and is thus not suitable for the docking station. Therefore, use a
USB3.0 or USB3.1 port.
Place the docking station on a level, rm and sufciently large area.
Protect valuable furniture surfaces by using a suitable mat to prevent scratches or pressure
points.
Switch the docking station on. The power LED (11) lights up. At the rst startup, Windows may nd new
hardware and will install the required drivers. The screen may icker a few times or go black for a short
time during the installation; this is normal (detection of the docking station’s external graphics card).
Connect your devices to the matching ports of the docking station.

Tips and notes
a) General information
Do not disconnect the USB connection between the docking station and the computer during operation,
as this may lead to data loss.
Do not use the docking station without the enclosed power adapter.
b) Connecting the monitor
The docking station allows the operation of up to 2 monitors.
Please note:
Connect only one monitor to each of the two combined monitor outputs “DISPLAY 1” and
“DISPLAY 2”.
Connect monitor # 1 to the HDMI or “DISPLAY 1” display port connector (see chapter “Connec-
tions and controls”, pos. “4” or “5”); connect monitor # 2 to “DISPLAY 2” (see gure, pos. “6” or “7”).
If you connect both monitors to the outputs “4” and “5” for example, you will only get a picture on
the monitor that is connected to the display port.
If you want to connect a 5K monitor to the docking station, connect both display port outputs of
the docking station to your monitor.
The operating system should be able to recognize the second monitor automatically after the drivers are
installed and the computer is connected to the docking station. For example, in Windows, the mouse
pointer can be moved from the rst monitor to the second one. Also, windows on the rst monitor can be
moved to the second monitor.
Depending on what mode you have set in the display settings of the driver software or,on Windows, a
second monitor can be used as an extension of the rst monitor, or the monitors show the same display
content.
During startup/ boot up of the computer, there won’t be a picture on the monitor that is connected to the
docking station, since at this point the driver is not yet loaded.
A picture will appear only after the operating system and the driver have nished loading.
To change the monitor allocations, edit the graphic settings in Windows (for Windows 7/8/10, click on an
unused area of the desktop with the right mouse button and select “screen resolution”) or even use the
setting options of the docking station’s software (Displaylink functions).
For example, the location of the second monitor can be changed (whether it is allocated to the left or the
right of the rst monitor), or you can adjust the resolution as desired.
Since the picture content is transferred via USB3.0/3.1, you may encounter delays in the display of picture
content, if the picture content changes quickly. This is observed mostly if a very high resolution was
selected or videos are being played.
The graphic output of the docking station cannot be used for games, as it is not suitable for 3D operation.
Since all data between the computer and docking station is transferred via a USB port, the use of graphics
output, network port, external sound card and USB3.0 hub have an impact on each other. Transferring
large data amounts via the network connection or the USB3.0 hub will reduce the speed of the graphics
output (e.g., moving windows on the desktop gets slower, or similar).
Never set a higher resolution/display refresh rate (or a combination of both values) than supported by the
monitor. Observe the user manual of the monitor for this.
c) USB 3.0 Hub
The USB3.0 ports of the integrated USB hub may be used with any USB device, such as a USB webcam,
USB mouse or USB keyboard.
The USB3.0 hub is compatible with USB2.0/1.1. You can also connect slower devices.
It doesn’t matter, which of the USB3.0 ports you use rst.
d) External sound card
One stereo jack bushing is used as a adset output, the other one as a connection for microphones. For this
purpose, observe the symbols next to the sockets. Do not swap round the connectors, otherwise neither
the headset, nor the microphone operates.
If the computer to which the docking station is connected has its own sound card, Windows normally
automatically activates the ports on the docking station when the latter is connected to the computer and
switched on.
In the audio properties of the Windows system control, the microphone input and the audio output can be
selected, so that you can switch between internal and external sound cards.
e) Network connection
If there is a network or system administrator who is responsible for your network (for example, in a larger
company), let the administrator set up the connection and the conguration.
The RJ45 network port on the docking station is connected to your router or network switch, for example,
via a fully wired network cable with a 1:1 connection.
The specied maximum data transfer rate of 1000MBit (gigabyte LAN), or about 125MByte/s, is never
reached in practical operation. This is caused by the transmission method used, transmission errors, other
devices in the network and so on; another reason is the maximum transfer rate of the USB port (the data
for the graphic output is transferred via the same USB port; the same is true for the external sound card
and the USB hub in the docking station).
With Windows, it might take some time until the PCs appear on the network. When you turn on the com-
puter, after a few seconds, when Windows is loaded on all computers, you will be able to access all the
other PCs immediately.
If, after a few minutes, it is still not possible to access other PCs, check any rewall and/or virus scanner
settings that may be used.
Naturally, the access permissions also have to be set accordingly, if you are using an operating system
that offers such features.
Consult the applicable operating instructions, when using a network printer or other devices in the network.
There are numerous causes explaining why a network connection is not successful. Please refer to the
appropriate specialist literature or to a specialist technician.
If you are not using a DHCP Server (e.g., integrated in all DSL routers), you should assign an IP address
to each PC.
Set the rst computer e.g., to 192.168.1.2, the second to 192.168.1.3, etc. The rst three numbers must
be the same for all computers; the last number can be between 1 and 254.
The „subnet mask“ has to be set to 255.255.255.0 for all the computers in the network.
Please keep in mind that an IP address (such as 192.168.1.1) can only be used once in the network. When
you set your router to the IP address 192.168.1.1, no other device in the network can use this IP address!
Care and cleaning
Before cleaning the product, switch it off and unplug the wall plug transformer from the mains socket.
Never use abrasive cleaning agents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions, since these could damage
the casing or even impair operation.
Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean the product.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable material and do not belong in the household waste. Dispose of
an unserviceable product in accordance with the relevant statutory regulations.
