Rules of Standard Play or 501:
The winner is the first player to reach zero from a starting
score of 501. During a players turn, the player throws
three darts and subtracts the total from the previous score
until the score reaches zero.
This game is simple, but it becomes tricky as the players
near the zero score. To win, a player not only has to reach
zero exactly, but also must obtain it through a “double.” For
example, if a player has 18 points left, it’
s necessary to hit
a double 9 in order to win. The closer each player gets to
zero, the more exciting and difficult Standard Play
becomes.
Standard Play can also be started from point values of
301, 601, 801, 1001 and any other value ending in 01.
This is a popular game played throughout the world.
Beginning Play:
To determine who plays first, each player throws one dart.
The player who hits closest to the bullseye decides the
throwing order of all players.
Thrown & Dropped Darts:
If a player drops a dart while preparing to throw
, the throw
does not count and the player can retry. However, if the
player’s arm is in the beginning of a throwing motion
and a dart is dropped, then it counts as a throw. Any dart
bouncing off or falling out of the dartboard shall not be
rethrown.
Foot Faults:
A foot foul is when one player steps over the throwing line.
Line Courtesy:
Never walk across the throwing line during play. It distracts
the player throwing.
Scoring:
Inner center ring, ‘Bull’ scores ‘50’ points.
Outer center ring scores ‘25’ points.
Inner narrow band, ‘Treble Ring’, scores triple the
segment number.
Outer narrow band, ‘Double Ring’, scores double the
segment number.
The diagram below illustrates the value of each segment
on a dart board according to the scoring rules.
Storage: Magnetic darts can be stored inside the board
when rolled up.
Safety: Always use common sense when throwing darts,
and never aim or throw them at another person.
WARNING: Keep the magnets away from computers,
video tapes, color TV sets, and wallets and purses
containing credit cards.
