Usea groundedthree-wireextensioncordand receptacleforall

machineswithelectricstartengines.

Disengageallcontrolleversbeforestartingtheengine.

Adjustcollectorhousingheighttocleargravelorcrushedrock

SafeHandlingof Gasoline

Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecarein

handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthevaporsare

explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhengasolineisspilled

onyourselfor yourclotheswhichcanignite. Washyourskinand

changeclothesimmediately.

• Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.

• Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipesandothersourcesof

ignition.

• Neverfuelmachineindoors.

• Neverremovegascapor addfuelwhiletheengineishotor

running.

• Allowenginetocoolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.

• Neveroverfillfueltank.Filltankto nomorethan1/2inchbelow

bottomoffillernecktoprovidespaceforfuelexpansion.

• Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.

• Keepthenozzlein contactwiththerimofthefueltankor

a nozzlelock-opendevice.

OPERATION

automaticallyreturntothedisengagedpositionwhenreleased.

• Neveroperatewitha missingor damagedchuteassembly.Keep

theoperatingposition(behindthehandles).Waituntiltheauger/

impellercomestoa completestopbeforeuncloggingthechute

assembly,makinganyadjustments,or inspections.

Neverputyourhandinthedischargeor collectoropenings.Do

notunclogchuteassemblywhileengineisrunning.Shutoff

engineand remainbehindhandlesuntilall movingpartshave

stoppedbeforeunclogging.

Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythemanufac-

turer(e.g.wheelweights,tirechains,cabsetc.). Forinformation

Whenstartingengine,pullcordslowlyuntilresistanceisfelt,then

pull rapidly.Rapidretractionofstartercord(kickback)willpull

handandarmtowardenginefasterthanyoucanletgo.Broken

bones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscouldresult.

CLEARING A CLOGGED DISCHARGE CHUTE

Handcontactwiththe rotatingimpellerinsidethedischargechute

is themostcommoncauseofinjuryassociatedwithsnowthrowers.

Neveruseyourhandtocleanoutthedischargechute.

Toclearthechute:

1. SHUTTHEENGINEOFF!

2. Wait 10secondstobe suretheimpellerbladeshavestopped

rotating.

3. Alwaysusea clean-outtool,notyourhands.

MAINTENANCE & STORAGE

• Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperation

regularly.Refertothemaintenanceandadjustmentsectionsof

thismanual.

• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspectingmachinedisengageall

controlleversandstoptheengine.Waituntiltheauger/impeller

cometoa completestop.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireand

groundagainsttheenginetopreventunintendedstarting.

Checkboltsand screwsforpropertightnessatfrequentintervals

tokeepthemachineinsafeworkingcondition.Also,visually

inspectmachineforanydamage.

Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingor over-speedthe

engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed

oftheengine.

Snowthrowershaveplatesand skidshoesaresubjecttowear

anddamage.Foryoursafetyprotection,frequentlycheckall

componentsand replacewithoriginalequipmentmanufacturer's

(OEM)partsonlyaslistedinthe Partspagesof thisoperator's

manual.Useofpartswhichdonotmeettheoriginalequipment

specificationsmayleadto improperperformanceandcompro-

Handle

REMOVING FROM CRATE

1. Removescrewsfromthebottomofthecratesecuringthesides,

andendsof theshippingcrate.

2. Liftoffthetopoff ofthecrateandsetoutofthewayofthe

assemblyarea.

3. Removeanddiscardplasticbagthatcoversunit.

4. Removeanyloosepartsincludedwithunit(e.g.,Operator's

Manual,etc.).

5. Pushdownon thelowerhandleand pullunitbackoutofcrate.

6. Makecertainthecratehasbeencompletelyemptiedbefore

discardingit.

ASSEMBLY

1. Removeanypackagingmaterialfromtheupperhandle.

2. Removethelowerplasticwingnut,bellevillewasherand carriage

boltfromeachsideof theupperhandle;thenraisetheupper

handleassemblyuntilit snapsoverthelowerhandle.SeeFig.1.

3. Lookingbeneaththehandlepanel,checkthatallofthecables

(steering,auger,shift,anddrive)areproperlyroutedandnot

pinchedorkinked.Makecertainthespringsatthelowerendofthe

augeranddrivecablesaresecurelyhookedintotheirrespective

actuatorbrackets.

4. Securetheupperhandleandlowerhandlewiththetwowingnuts,

bellevillewashers,andcarriageboltsremovedearlier.Tightenthe

twowingnutsalreadyinstalledintheupperholestofirmlysecure

theupperhandleandsupporttubes.SeeFig.2.

Thechuteclean-outtoolisfastenedtothetopoftheaugerhousing

witha mountingclipanda cabletieatthefactory.Cutthecabletie

Drift(:utters

The snow thrower drift cutters are mounted inverted at the factory

for shipping purposes.

1. Remove the four wing knobs (two on each side) and carriage bolts.

Place drift cutter in upright position and re-secure. See Fig.9.

Tire Pressure (Pneumatic Tires)

Underanycircumstancedo notexceedmanufacturer'srecom-

mendedpsi. Equaltirepressureshouldbemaintainedatall times.

Excessivepressurewhenseatingbeadsmaycausetire/rim

assemblytoburstwithforcesufficienttocauseseriousinjury.Refer

tosidewallof tirefor recommendedpressure.

Thetirescanbeover-inflatedforshippingpurposes.Checkthetire

pressurebeforeoperatingthesnowthrower.Refertothetiresidewall

formanufactures'srecommendedpsianddeflate(orinflate)thetires

asnecessary.

NOTE:Equaltirepressureistobemaintainedatalltimesforperfor-

mancepurposes.

Fuel Recommendations

Useautomotivegasoline(unleadedor lowleadedtominimizecombus-

tionchamberdeposits)witha minimumof87octane.Gasolinewith

upto 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)canbe

used.Neveruseanoil/gasolinemixtureor dirtygasoline.Avoidgetting

dirt,dust,or waterinthefueltank.DONOTuseE85gasoline.

• Refuelin awell-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Do

notsmokeorallowflamesor sparksin theareawherethe

engineisrefueledor wheregasolineisstored.

• Donotoverfillthefueltank.Afterrefueling,makesurethe

tankcapisclosedproperlyandsecurely.

• Becarefulnottospillfuelwhenrefueling.Spilledfuelor fuel

vapormayignite.Ifanyfuelisspilled,makesuretheareais

drybeforestartingtheengine.

• Avoidrepeatedorprolongedcontactwithskinor breathingof

vapor.

Adding Fuel

Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely

flammableandthevaporsareexplosive.Neverfuelthemachine

indoorsorwhiletheengineishotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,

cigars,pipesandothersourcesofignition.

Alwayskeephandsandfeetclearofequipmentmovingparts.Donot

usea pressurizedstartingfluid.Vaporsareflammable.

Cleanaroundfuelfillbeforeremovingcaptofuel.

A fuellevelindicatorislocatedin thefueltank.Filltankuntilfuel

reachesthefuellevelindictor,Figure10.Becarefulnottooverfill.

Checking Oil Level

Theengineisshippedwithoil in theengine.Youmust,however,

checktheoil levelpriorto operatingthesnowthrower.Runningthe

enginewith insufficientoil cancauseseriousenginedamageand

voidtheenginewarranty.

NOTE:Besuretochecktheengineon a levelsurfacewiththeengine

stopped.

Toavoidenginedamage,itis importantto:

• Checkoil levelbeforeeachuseandevery5 operatinghours

whenengineiswarm.Checkoil levelmorefrequentlyduring

enginebreak-in.

• Keepoillevelbetween"H"and"L"markson dipstick.See

Fig.11.

• Besureoilfill cap/plugistightenedsecurelywhenchecking.

ADJUSTMENTS

Skid Shoes

Thesnowthrowerskidshoesareadjustedupwardat thefactoryfor

shippingpurposes.Adjustthemdownwardpriortooperatingthesnow

thrower.

Itisnotrecommendedthatyouoperatethis snowthrowerongravel

asitcaneasilypick upandthrowloosegravel,causingpersonal

injuryor damagetothesnowthrowerandsurroundingproperty.

Forclosesnowremovalona smoothsurface,adjusttheskidshoessothat

theshaveplateonthebottomofthe augerhousingisjustoff theground.

Adjusttheskidshoestoa lowerpositiontoraisetheshaveplateoff the

groundwhenclearingunevenareas,suchasa ribbontypedrivewayor

a graveldriveway

NOTE:Ifyouchoosetooperatethesnowthrowerona gravelsurface,

keeptheskidshoesin positionformaximumclearancebetweenthe

groundandtheshaveplate.

To adjust the skid shoes:

1. Adjustskidshoesbylooseningthesix (threeoneachside)hex

nutsandcarriagebolts securingtheskidshoestotheauger

housing. Referto Figure12.

2. Whileobservingthedistancebetweentheshaveplateandthe

ground,adjusttheskidsshoesupordowntoachievethedesired

shaveplateheight.SeeFigure12.

3. Makecertaintheentirebottomsurfaceofskidshoesareagainst

thegroundtoavoidunevenwearon theskidshoes;thentighten

nutsandboltssecurely.

Testing Auger Drive Control

1. Whentheaugercontrolisreleasedandinthedisengaged"up"

position,thecableshouldhaveverylittleslack.It shouldNOTbe

tight.RefertoFigure13.

2. Ina well-ventilatedarea,startthesnowthrowerengineas

instructedintheOperationsectionofthis manual.Makesurethe

throttleissetintheFASTposition.

3. Whilestandingin theoperator'sposition(behindthesnow

thrower),engagetheauger.

4. Allowtheaugertoremainengagedforapproximatelyten(10)sec-

ondsbeforereleasingtheaugercontrol.Repeatthisseveraltimes.

NOTE:Whenengagingtheauger,youmayheara"chirp"sound.

Thisisnormal,itisthebeltengagingthepulley.Asthebeltwears,this

soundwillnotbeheardwhenengagingtheauger.

5. Withthethrottlecontrolinthe FAST(rabbit)positionandthe

augercontrolinthedisengaged"up"position,walktothefrontof

themachine.

6. Confirmthattheaugerhascompletelystoppedrotatingand

showsNOsignsofmotion.IftheaugershowsANYsignsof

rotating,immediatelyreturntotheoperator'spositionand shutoff

theengine.WaitforALL movingpartstostopbeforere-adjusting

theaugercontrol.

Testing Drive Control & Speed Selector Lever

1. Withtheengineturnedoff,movethespeedselectorleverinto

sixth(6) position.RefertoFigure13.

2. Withthewheeldrivecontrolreleased,pushthesnowthrower

forward,thenpull itback.Themachineshouldmovefreely.

3. Engagethedrivecontroland attemptto movethemachineboth

forwardandback,resistanceshouldbefelt.

4. Movethespeedselectorleverintothefastreverse(R2)position

andrepeattheprevioustwosteps.

5. Ifyouexperiencedresistancerollingtheunit,eitherwhen

repositioningthespeedselectorleverfrom6 toR2orwhen

attemptingtomovethemachinewiththedrivecontrolreleased,

adjustthedrivecontrolimmediately.SeeAdjustingDriveand

1. ReleaseboththeAugerControlandtheDriveControl.

2. Stoptheenginebyremovingtheignitionkey.

3. Removetheclean-outtoolfromtheclipwhichsecuresit tothe

rearoftheaugerhousing.

4. Usetheshovel-shapedendoftheclean-outtooltodislodgeand

scoopanysnowandicewhichhasformedinand nearthechute

assembly.

5. Refastentheclean-outtoolto themountingclipon therearof

theaugerhousing,reinserttheignitionkeyandstartthesnow

thrower'sengine.

oil (5W-30,witha minimumclassificationofSF/SG)untiloil level

Gasoline

flammableandthevaporsareexplosive.Neverfuel themachine

indoorsor whiletheengineishotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,

cigars,pipesandothersourcesofignition.

Useautomotivegasoline(unleadedor lowleadedtominimizecombus-

tionchamberdeposits)witha minimumof87octane.Gasolinewith

upto 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)canbe

used.Neveruseanoil/gasolinemixtureor dirtygasoline.Avoidgetting

dirt,dust,or waterin thefueltank.DONOTuseE85gasoline.

• Refuelin awell-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Donot

smokeor allowflamesorsparksintheareawheretheengineis

refueledor wheregasolineisstored.

• Donotoverfillthefueltank.Afterrefueling,makesurethetank

capisclosedproperlyandsecurely.

• Becarefulnottospillfuelwhenrefueling.Spilledfuelor fuelvapor

mayignite.Ifanyfuelisspilled,makesuretheareaisdrybefore

startingtheengine.

• Avoidrepeatedorprolongedcontactwithskinor breathingofvapor

4. Pushprimerthreetimes(3x),makingsureto coverventholein

primerbulbwhenpushing.Ifengineiswarm,pushprimeronly

once.Alwayscoverventholewhenpushing.Coolweathermay

requireprimingtobe repeated.

5. Pushstarterbuttonto startengine.Oncetheenginestarts,im-

mediatelyreleasestarterbutton.Electricstarterisequippedwith

thermaloverloadprotection;systemwilltemporarilyshut-downto

allowstartertocoolifelectricstarterbecomesoverloaded.

Toprolongstarterlife,useshortstartingcycles(5secondsmaximum

thenwaitone minute).

6. Astheenginewarms,slowlyrotatethechokecontroltotheRUN

position.Iftheenginefalters,restartengineandrunwith choke

at half-chokepositionfora shortperiodoftime,andthenslowly

rotatethechokeintotheRUNposition.

7. Afterengineis running,disconnectpowercordfromelectric

starter.Whendisconnecting,alwaysunplugtheendatthewall

outletbeforeunpluggingtheoppositeend fromtheengine.

Recoil Starter

NOTE:Allowtheengineto warmupfora fewminutesafterstarting.

Theenginewillnotdevelopfullpoweruntilit reachesoperating

temperatures.

1. Makecertainboththeaugercontrolanddrivecontrolare inthe

disengaged(released)position.

2. Insertkeyintoslot.Makesureit snapsintoplace.Donotattempt

toturnthekey.

engineiswarm,placechokeinthe RUNposition.

3. Pushprimerthreetimes,makingsureto coverventholewhen

pushing.If engineiswarm,pushprimeronlyonce.Alwayscover

ventholewhenpushing.Coolweathermayrequireprimingto be

repeated.

4. Pullgentlyon thestarterhandleuntilit beginstoresist,thenpull

quicklyandforcefullytoovercomethecompression.Engineshould

start.Donotreleasethehandleandallowittosnapback.Return

ropeSLOWLYtooriginalposition.If required,repeatthisstep.

5. Astheenginewarms,slowlyrotatethechokecontroltotheRUN

position.Iftheenginefalters,restartengineandrunwith choke

at half-chokepositionfora shortperiodoftime,andthenslowly

rotatethechokeintotheRUNposition.

Toavoidunsupervisedengineoperation,neverleavethemachine

unattendedwiththeenginerunning.Turntheengineoff afteruseand

removekey.

STOPPING THE ENGINE

Afteryouhavefinishedsnow-throwing,runenginefora fewminutes

beforestoppingto helpdryoff anymoistureon theengine.

1. Movethrottlecontrolto STOPi_ position.

2. Removethekey.Removingthekeywill reducethepossibilityof

unauthorizedstartingoftheenginewhileequipmentis notin use.

Keepthekeyina safeplace.Theenginecannotstartwithoutthe

3. Wipeallsnowandmoisturefromtheareaaroundtheengineas

wellastheareainandaroundthewheeldrivecontrolandauger

control.Also,engageand releasebothcontrolsseveraltimes.

TO ENGAGE DRIVE

1. Withthethrottlecontrolin theFast(rabbit)_ position,move

speedselectorleverintooneofthesix forward(F)positionsor

two reverse(R)positions.Selecta speedappropriateforthe

snowconditionsanda paceyou'recomfortablewith.

NOTE: Whenselectinga DriveSpeed,usetheslowerspeeds

untilyouarecomfortableandfamiliarwiththeoperationofthe

snowthrower.

2. Squeezethedrivecontrolagainstthehandleandthesnow

throwerwillmove.Releaseitand drivemotionwillstop.

NOTE:NEVERrepositionthespeedselectorlever(changespeedsor

directionoftravel)withoutfirstreleasingthedrivecontroland bringing

the snowthrowertoa completestop.Doingsowillresultin premature

weartothe snowthrower'sdrivesystem.

TO ENGAGE AUGER

1. Toengagetheaugerandstartthrowingsnow,squeezetheauger

controlagainsttheleft handle.Releasetostoptheauger.

REPLACING SHEAR PiNS

Theaugersare securedtothespiralshaftwith shearpinsandbow-tie

cotterpins.Iftheaugershouldstrikea foreignobjector icejam, the

snowthrowerisdesignedsothatthe pinsmayshear.Iftheaugerswill

notturn,checktoseeifthepinshavesheared. SeeFigure17.

Eachoftheaugerspiralassembliesissecuredtothe spiralshaftwith

a shearpinandcotterpin.If theaugershouldstrikeaforeignobjector

icejam,thesnowthrowerisdesignedsothatthepinsmayshear.

1. Ifaugersdonotturn,checktoseeif pinshavesheared.

2. Replacethepinsif needed.Tworeplacementshearpinsand

cotterpinshavebeenprovidedwiththesnowthrower.Sprayan

oil lubricantintoshaftbeforeinsertingnewpinsand securingwith

newcotterpins.See Fig.23.
