CLEARING A CLOGGED DISCHARGE CHUTE
Handcontactwiththe rotatingimpellerinsidethedischargechute
is themostcommoncauseofinjuryassociatedwithsnowthrowers.
Neveruseyourhandtocleanoutthedischargechute.
Toclearthechute:
1. SHUTTHEENGINEOFF!
2. Wait 10secondstobe suretheimpellerbladeshavestopped
rotating.
3. Alwaysusea clean-outtool,notyourhands.

Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperation
regularly.Refertothemaintenanceandadjustmentsectionsof
thismanual.
Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspectingmachinedisengageall
controlleversandstoptheengine.Waituntiltheauger/impeller
cometoa completestop.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireand
groundagainsttheenginetopreventunintendedstarting.
Checkboltsand screwsforpropertightnessatfrequentintervals
tokeepthemachineinsafeworkingcondition.Also,visually
inspectmachineforanydamage.
Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingor over-speedthe
engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed

Handle
REMOVING FROM CRATE
1. Removescrewsfromthebottomofthecratesecuringthesides,
andendsof theshippingcrate.
2. Liftoffthetopoff ofthecrateandsetoutofthewayofthe
assemblyarea.
3. Removeanddiscardplasticbagthatcoversunit.
4. Removeanyloosepartsincludedwithunit(e.g.,Operator's
Manual,etc.).
5. Pushdownon thelowerhandleand pullunitbackoutofcrate.
6. Makecertainthecratehasbeencompletelyemptiedbefore
discardingit.
ASSEMBLY
1. Removeanypackagingmaterialfromtheupperhandle.
2. Removethelowerplasticwingnut,bellevillewasherand carriage
boltfromeachsideof theupperhandle;thenraisetheupper
handleassemblyuntilit snapsoverthelowerhandle.SeeFig.1.

3. Lookingbeneaththehandlepanel,checkthatallofthecables
(steering,auger,shift,anddrive)areproperlyroutedandnot
pinchedorkinked.Makecertainthespringsatthelowerendofthe
augeranddrivecablesaresecurelyhookedintotheirrespective
actuatorbrackets.
4. Securetheupperhandleandlowerhandlewiththetwowingnuts,
bellevillewashers,andcarriageboltsremovedearlier.Tightenthe
twowingnutsalreadyinstalledintheupperholestofirmlysecure
theupperhandleandsupporttubes.SeeFig.2.

Drift(:utters
The snow thrower drift cutters are mounted inverted at the factory
for shipping purposes.
1. Remove the four wing knobs (two on each side) and carriage bolts.
Place drift cutter in upright position and re-secure. See Fig.9.

Tire Pressure (Pneumatic Tires)
Underanycircumstancedo notexceedmanufacturer'srecom-
mendedpsi. Equaltirepressureshouldbemaintainedatall times.
Excessivepressurewhenseatingbeadsmaycausetire/rim
assemblytoburstwithforcesufficienttocauseseriousinjury.Refer
tosidewallof tirefor recommendedpressure.
Thetirescanbeover-inflatedforshippingpurposes.Checkthetire
pressurebeforeoperatingthesnowthrower.Refertothetiresidewall
formanufactures'srecommendedpsianddeflate(orinflate)thetires

NOTE:Equaltirepressureistobemaintainedatalltimesforperfor-
mancepurposes.
Fuel Recommendations
Useautomotivegasoline(unleadedor lowleadedtominimizecombus-
tionchamberdeposits)witha minimumof87octane.Gasolinewith
upto 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)canbe
used.Neveruseanoil/gasolinemixtureor dirtygasoline.Avoidgetting
dirt,dust,or waterinthefueltank.DONOTuseE85gasoline.
Refuelin awell-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Do
notsmokeorallowflamesor sparksin theareawherethe
engineisrefueledor wheregasolineisstored.
Donotoverfillthefueltank.Afterrefueling,makesurethe
tankcapisclosedproperlyandsecurely.
Becarefulnottospillfuelwhenrefueling.Spilledfuelor fuel
vapormayignite.Ifanyfuelisspilled,makesuretheareais
drybeforestartingtheengine.
Avoidrepeatedorprolongedcontactwithskinor breathingof
vapor.
Adding Fuel
Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely
flammableandthevaporsareexplosive.Neverfuelthemachine
indoorsorwhiletheengineishotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,

Skid Shoes
Thesnowthrowerskidshoesareadjustedupwardat thefactoryfor
shippingpurposes.Adjustthemdownwardpriortooperatingthesnow
thrower.
Itisnotrecommendedthatyouoperatethis snowthrowerongravel
asitcaneasilypick upandthrowloosegravel,causingpersonal
injuryor damagetothesnowthrowerandsurroundingproperty.
Forclosesnowremovalona smoothsurface,adjusttheskidshoessothat
theshaveplateonthebottomofthe augerhousingisjustoff theground.
Adjusttheskidshoestoa lowerpositiontoraisetheshaveplateoff the
groundwhenclearingunevenareas,suchasa ribbontypedrivewayor
a graveldriveway
NOTE:Ifyouchoosetooperatethesnowthrowerona gravelsurface,
keeptheskidshoesin positionformaximumclearancebetweenthe
groundandtheshaveplate.
To adjust the skid shoes:
1. Adjustskidshoesbylooseningthesix (threeoneachside)hex
nutsandcarriagebolts securingtheskidshoestotheauger
housing. Referto Figure12.
2. Whileobservingthedistancebetweentheshaveplateandthe
ground,adjusttheskidsshoesupordowntoachievethedesired
shaveplateheight.SeeFigure12.
3. Makecertaintheentirebottomsurfaceofskidshoesareagainst

throttleissetintheFASTposition.
3. Whilestandingin theoperator'sposition(behindthesnow
thrower),engagetheauger.
4. Allowtheaugertoremainengagedforapproximatelyten(10)sec-
ondsbeforereleasingtheaugercontrol.Repeatthisseveraltimes.
NOTE:Whenengagingtheauger,youmayheara"chirp"sound.
Thisisnormal,itisthebeltengagingthepulley.Asthebeltwears,this
soundwillnotbeheardwhenengagingtheauger.
5. Withthethrottlecontrolinthe FAST(rabbit)positionandthe
augercontrolinthedisengaged"up"position,walktothefrontof
themachine.

6. Confirmthattheaugerhascompletelystoppedrotatingand
showsNOsignsofmotion.IftheaugershowsANYsignsof
rotating,immediatelyreturntotheoperator'spositionand shutoff

5. Ifyouexperiencedresistancerollingtheunit,eitherwhen

used.Neveruseanoil/gasolinemixtureor dirtygasoline.Avoidgetting
dirt,dust,or waterin thefueltank.DONOTuseE85gasoline.
Refuelin awell-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Donot
smokeor allowflamesorsparksintheareawheretheengineis
refueledor wheregasolineisstored.
Donotoverfillthefueltank.Afterrefueling,makesurethetank
capisclosedproperlyandsecurely.
Becarefulnottospillfuelwhenrefueling.Spilledfuelor fuelvapor

Toprolongstarterlife,useshortstartingcycles(5secondsmaximum

6. Astheenginewarms,slowlyrotatethechokecontroltotheRUN
position.Iftheenginefalters,restartengineandrunwith choke
at half-chokepositionfora shortperiodoftime,andthenslowly
rotatethechokeintotheRUNposition.
7. Afterengineis running,disconnectpowercordfromelectric
starter.Whendisconnecting,alwaysunplugtheendatthewall
outletbeforeunpluggingtheoppositeend fromtheengine.
Recoil Starter

Toavoidunsupervisedengineoperation,neverleavethemachine
unattendedwiththeenginerunning.Turntheengineoff afteruseand
removekey.

STOPPING THE ENGINE
Afteryouhavefinishedsnow-throwing,runenginefora fewminutes
beforestoppingto helpdryoff anymoistureon theengine.

speedselectorleverintooneofthesix forward(F)positionsor
two reverse(R)positions.Selecta speedappropriateforthe

1. Ifaugersdonotturn,checktoseeif pinshavesheared.
2. Replacethepinsif needed.Tworeplacementshearpinsand
cotterpinshavebeenprovidedwiththesnowthrower.Sprayan
oil lubricantintoshaftbeforeinsertingnewpinsand securingwith
newcotterpins.See Fig.23.
