ASSEMBLY
NOTE: Before using the tool, read the
instruction book carefully.
Caution! During use, it is important not to
overload the grinder. The grinder should
run at close to full speed. If you are applying
too much pressure, the grinder will start to slow
down. Under these conditions remove the work
piece and allow the grinder to return to full
speed. Re-apply the work piece with less force.
All of the grinders are supplied with grinding
wheels designed for metal use only. The grind-
ing of Copper, Brass, Aluminum, Wood or other
similar materials will “clog” the grinding wheel.
Important: Remove the plug from the
socket before carrying out any adjustment,
servicing or maintenance.
1. Fitting and adjusting the spark arresters
(See Fig.A)
Insert a screw through the spark arrester slot and
fix onto the wheel guard with a screwdriver (not
supplied).
To adjust the spark arrester, loosen the screw and
slide the deflector up or down. Make sure that the
bottom edge is less than 2mm from the surface of
the wheel, but not touching the wheel.
Rotate the wheel by hand one full rotation to en
-
sure the wheel can rotate without contacting the
spark arrester. Firmly tighten the screw retaining
the spark arrester.
2. Fitting and adjusting the eye shields
(See Fig.B, C, D)
Note: Always ensure the eye shields are correct
-
ly fitted each time before the grinder is used. Eye
shields must be fitted over each grinding wheel
on all bench grinders in the range.
Install the eye shield as shown in Fig.B, C & D.
Fit a screw with a spanner (spanner not supplied)
through each side of the eye shield into the pivot

points and tighten firmly to secure the eye shield
in place.
Note: The Magnifier eye shield features a mag
-
nifying glass incorporated into the design to pro
-
vide greater visibility and improved accuracy.
3. Fitting the work rests (See Fig.E)
The work rests are required for each high speed
grinding wheel to assist in grinding operation.
Caution: Never use a Bench Grinder on
which the work rest has not been fitted
or where the work rest has not been correctly
adjusted.
Note: The work rests are right and left-handed.
Follow the diagrams to ensure the work rest is
fitted to the correct side.
1) Hold the work rest in the correct position
against the inner surface of the wheel guard. Fit
the screw through the work rest and the guard.
2) Fit the washers first, followed by the short
bolts. Tighten the bolts sufficiently to support the
work rest but still allowing the work rest to slide
inwards and outwards.
3) Slide the work rest with a maximum distance
of 2mm from the wheel. Rotate the wheel one full
revolution by hand to ensure the wheel does not
contact the work rest.
4) Tighten the bolts firmly to retain the assembly.
Repeat the assembly operation for the other work
rest.
4. Mounting the grinder
The base of the grinder has two holes on both
sides. These holes accept bolts (not supplied) less
than 10mm in diameter.
Where the grinder is to be mounted to a steel
work bench (not supplied), it is advisable to place
a piece of timber between the bench and grinder.
Then bolt through the grinder and timber into the
bench. This further assists to reduce vibration.
Important: When directly mounting the grinder
ensure the surface under the grinder is flat and
clean.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Important:
Ensure that the eye shields, spark arresters and
the work rests are fitted and correctly adjusted
and that you are wearing safety gear including
eye, hearing and breathing protection before us
-
ing the tool.
Warning: Never attempt to grind
Magnesium. Only use the front face of the
grinding wheel but not the sides. Please note
that the work piece can get very warm. It may
be necessary to cool a work piece by dipping it
in a coolant or in water. Do not apply coolant or
water to the grinding wheel.
—Turn the wheel by hand to make sure it does
not touch the guard, eye shields, spark arresters
or work rests and runs freely.
—Stand to one side, turn the switch on and al-
low the motor to reach full speed.
—Support the work piece on the work rest and
gradually feed the work piece onto the wheel.
Note: Traverse the work piece across the full
width of the wheel to prolong its flat surface.
—If the grinding operation causes the motor
speed to noticeably decrease, pull back the work
piece, allow the motor to regain full speed and
restart the grinding operation, but apply less
force.
1. On/Off switch
To turn the grinder on, press the On/Off switch to
the position marked “I.
To turn the grinder off, press the On/Off switch to
the position marked O”.
2. Using the work light (See Fig.F)
The work light can be used to illuminate the
work area and provide greater visibility. It is
controlled by the On/Off switch.

bulb.
Fig.F
3. Changing the grinding wheels (See Fig.
G, H)
Important: Remove the plug from the socket
before changing a wheel.
1) Remove both work rests and spark arresters.
2) Remove the outer guards by loosening three
retaining screws. See Fig. G
3) Using two spanners (not supplied), loosen the
grinding wheel retention nuts. See Fig. H
4) Remove the nut, the outer flange and the
wheel.
5) Fix the replacement wheel on the shaft en
-
suring that there is a blotter on each side of the
wheel.
6) Replace the outer flange and tighten the nut.
7) Replace the outer guard and install the 3 retain
-
ing screws.
8) Replace the spark arresters and the work rests
both sides.
9) Re-adjust the work rests and spark arresters to
ensure that they are not more than 2mm from the
wheel.
10) Rotate the wheel by hand to check for free
movement and proper adjustments.
4. Using the wheel dressing set (See Fig.
I, J)
The supplied wheel dressing set is used for clear
-
ing the dust or other debris after working as
shown in (Fig.I)
Place it back on top of the machine.
MAINTENANCE
Remove the plug from the socket before
carrying out any adjustment, servicing or
maintenance.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced
by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly
qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
GRINDER ADJUSTMENTS
During the life of the grinder some adjustments
are required to maintain a safe working environ
-
ment. Please ensure the following:
Always adjust the eye shields to the most com

fortable and most effective angle to suit the task
being performed.
As the wheels wear, the spark arresters must be
adjusted to ensure that the distance from its bot-
tom edge to the wheel surface is not more than
2mm.
As the wheels wear, the work rests must also
be adjusted to make sure that the distance is not
more that 2mm from its edge to the wheel sur-
face.
LUBRICATION
1. All models use pre-lubricated sealed ball bear
-
ings for the motor and do not require lubrica
-
tion.
2. If the wheels do not rotate freely, the bearings
should be replaced by an authorised service cen-
tre.
CLEANING
1. Keep the outside of the grinder clean by brush
-
ing grinding dust and dirt away from all areas
where the dust tends to build up. Wear eye pro-
tection when brushing.
2. Wipe the guards and grinder with a soft damp
cloth. A mild detergent can also be used.
3. Wipe the eye shields with a soft damp cloth,
making sure not to scratch the surface. A mild de-
tergent can also be used.
Caution: Never use caustic agents, petrol
based cleaners, alcohol or any other
cleaning agents. Do not wet down the grinder.
GENERAL INSPECTION
Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight.
They may vibrate loose over time.
TROUBLESHOOTING
1. Grinder will not start
If your grinder will not start check the power at
the mains plug.
2. Wheel wobbles or vibrates
Check that the lock-nut is tight. Check that the
wheel is correctly located on the shaft and locat
-
ing washer. If excessive pressure has been used
or the wheel has “caught”, it may be damaged,
this can cause excessive vibration. DO NOT USE
if there is any evidence that the wheel is dam-
aged. Remove it and replace with a new wheel.
Dispose of old wheels sensibly.
3. Wheel leaves rough finish
Too much pressure on the wheel can cause a poor
surface finish. If working with aluminum or simi
-
lar soft alloy, the wheel will soon become clogged
and will not grind effectively.
There are no other user serviceable parts in your
bench grinder.
ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
Waste electrical products should not be
disposed of with household waste. Please
recycle where facilities exist. For further
information visit www.recycle-more.co.uk.
