TheRavenXEusesyourcellularprovidedasanISP(Internet
ServiceProvider)toconnectyoutotheInternet.
Steps of a connection:
1. WhenyourRavenXEispoweredon,itautomatically
searchesforcellularserviceusingHSUPA/HSDPA.
2. YourRavenXEestablishesalinktotheyourcellular
providednetwork,alsocalledregisteringonthenetwork,
andreceivesanIPaddress.
3. WhenyourRavenXEhasreceiveditsIPaddressfrom
yourcellularprovided,aconnectiontotheInternetorthe
cellularnetworkisalsoavailableforacomputerorother
deviceconnecteddirectlytotheRavenXE.

The modem would provide the one-to-one connection to the router
with the router configured to provide a broader NAT service to the
other devices connected to it.
Dynamic vs. Static IP Addresses
Therearetwotypesofaddressesonnetworks:dynamicand
static.
Dynamicaddressesareassignedona“needtohave”basis.
YourRavenXEmightnotalwaysreceivethesameaddress
eachtimeitconnectswithyourcellularprovided.
Staticaddressesarepermanentlyassignedtoaparticular
accountandwillalwaysbeusedwheneveryourRavenXE
connectstotheInternet.TheIPaddresswillnotbegiven
toanyoneelse.
MostISPs(cellularincluded)usedynamicIPaddressesrather
thanstaticIPaddressessinceitallowsthemtoreuseasmaller
numberofIPaddressesforalargenumberofcustomers.A
dynamicIPaddressissuitableformanycommonInternet
uses,suchaswebbrowsing,lookingupdataonanother

provided Representative for more information about changing your
account for static IP support.
