Work area safety
Work Area Safety1.
Keep work area clean and well lit. a.
Cluttered or dark areas invite acci-
dents.
Keep children and bystanders b.
away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose
control.
Electrical safety2.
Electric Hoist plugs must match a.
the outlet. Never modify the plug
in any way. Do not use any adapt-
er plugs with grounded equipment.
Unmodied plugs and matching out-
lets will reduce risk of electric shock.
Avoid body contact with grounded b.
surfaces such as pipes, radiators,
ranges and refrigerators. There is
an increased risk of electric shock if
your body is grounded.
Do not expose Electric Hoist to c.
rain or wet conditions. Water enter-

ing the Electric Hoist will increase the
risk of electric shock.
Do not abuse the cord. Never use d.
the cord for carrying, pulling or
unplugging the power tool. Keep
cord away from heat, oil, sharp
edges or moving parts. Damaged
or entangled cords increase the risk
of electric shock.
When operating an Electric Hoist e.
outdoors, use an extension cord
suitable for outdoor use. Use of a
cord suitable for outdoor use reduces
the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety3.
Do not lift load over people or ani-a.
mals. Load could fall causing serious
injury and/or death!
Do not use for aircraft purposes.b.
Stay alert, watch what you are c.
doing and use common sense
when operating Electric Hoist. Do
not use a power tool while you
are tired or under the inuence of
drugs, alcohol or medication. A
moment of inattention while operating
the Electric Hoist may result in seri-
ous personal injury.
Use personal protective equip-d.
ment. Always wear ANSI-approved
eye protection and hard hat.
Remove any adjusting key or e.
wrench before turning the Electric
Hoist on. A wrench or a key left at-
tached to a rotating part of the power
tool may result in personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper f.
footing and balance at all times.
This enables better control of the load
in unexpected situations.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose g.
clothing or jewelry. Keep your
hair, clothing and gloves away
from moving parts. Loose clothes,
jewelry or long hair can be caught in
moving parts.
Electric Hoist use and care4.
Do not use the Electric Hoist if the a.
switch does not turn it on and off.
Any Electric Hoist that cannot be con-
trolled with the switch is dangerous
and must be repaired.
Disconnect the plug from the b.
power source before making any
adjustments, changing accesso-
ries, or storing power tools. Such
preventive safety measures reduce
the risk of starting the Electric Hoist
accidentally.
Store idle Electric Hoist out of the c.
reach of children and do not allow
persons unfamiliar with the Elec-
tric Hoist or these instructions to
operate the Electric Hoist. Electric
Hoist is dangerous in the hands of
untrained users.
Maintain the Electric Hoist. Check d.
for frayed or kinked cable, mis-
alignment or binding of moving
parts, breakage of parts and any
other condition that may affect the
power tool’s operation. If dam-
aged, have the power tool repaired
before use. Many accidents are
caused by poorly maintained Electric
Hoist.
Use the Electric Hoist in accor-e.
dance with these instructions,
taking into account the working
conditions and the work to be
performed. Use of the Electric Hoist
for operations different from those

intended could result in a hazardous
situation.
Service5.
Have your Electric Hoist serviced a.
by a qualied repair person using
only identical replacement parts.
This will ensure that the safety of the
Electric Hoist is maintained.
SAVE THESE
INSTRUCTIONS.
GROUNDING
TO PREVENT
ELECTRIC SHOCK
AND DEATH FROM
INCORRECT GROUNDING
WIRE CONNECTION:
Check with a qualied
electrician if you are in doubt
as to whether the outlet is
properly grounded. Do not
modify the power cord plug
provided with the tool. Never
remove the grounding prong
from the plug. Do not use the
tool if the power cord or plug
is damaged. If damaged, have
it repaired by a service facility
before use. If the plug will not
t the outlet, have a proper
outlet installed by a qualied
electrician.
Grounded Tools: Tools with Three
Prong Plugs
Tools marked with “Grounding Re-1.
quired” have a three wire cord and
three prong grounding plug. The
plug must be connected to a properly
grounded outlet. If the tool should
electrically malfunction or break
down, grounding provides a low
resistance path to carry electricity
away from the user, reducing the risk
of electric shock. (See 3-Prong Plug
and Outlet.)
The grounding prong in the plug is 2.
connected through the green wire in-
side the cord to the grounding system
in the tool. The green wire in the cord
must be the only wire connected to
the tool’s grounding system and must
never be attached to an electrically
“live” terminal. (See 3-Prong Plug
and Outlet.)
The tool must be plugged into an 3.
appropriate outlet, properly installed
and grounded in accordance with all
codes and ordinances. The plug and
outlet should look like those in the
preceding illustration. (See 3-Prong
Plug and Outlet.)
SKU 99630 For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353. Page 5
Double Insulated Tools: Tools
with Two Prong Plugs
Tools marked “Double Insulated” do 1.
not require grounding. They have
a special double insulation system
which satises OSHA requirements
and complies with the applicable
standards of Underwriters Labora-
tories, Inc., the Canadian Standard
Association, and the National Electri-
cal Code. (See Outlets for 2-Prong
Plug.)
Double insulated tools may be used 2.
in either of the 120 volt outlets shown
in the preceding illustration. (See
Outlets for 2-Prong Plug.)
Extension Cords
Grounded1. tools require a three wire
extension cord. Double Insulated
tools can use either a two or three
wire extension cord.
As the distance from the supply outlet 2.
increases, you must use a heavier
gauge extension cord. Using exten-
sion cords with inadequately sized
wire causes a serious drop in voltage,
resulting in loss of power and pos-
sible tool damage.
(See Table A.)
The smaller the gauge number of the 3.
wire, the greater the capacity of the
cord. For example, a 14 gauge cord
can carry a higher current than a 16
gauge cord. (See Table A.)
When using more than one exten-4.
sion cord to make up the total length,
make sure each cord contains at
least the minimum wire size required.
(See Table A.)
If you are using one extension cord 5.
for more than one tool, add the
nameplate amperes and use the sum
to determine the required minimum
cord size. (See Table A.)
If you are using an extension cord 6.
outdoors, make sure it is marked with
the sufx “W-A” (“W” in Canada) to
indicate it is acceptable for outdoor
use.
Make sure the extension cord is prop-7.
erly wired and in good electrical con-
dition. Always replace a damaged
extension cord or have it repaired by
a qualied electrician before using it.
Protect the extension cords from 8.
sharp objects, excessive heat, and
damp or wet areas.
