This manual describes the operation of the Kimberly™ non-catalytic wood stove heater. This heater meets the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s emission limits for wood heaters sold on or after July 1, 2012.
!
The Kimberly™ wood stove heater has been developed and constructed in accordance with all the requirements
of UL 1482-2011, ULC-S627-00 and HUD Standards and is listed by PFS TECO Laboratory Services, Cottage
Grove, Wisconsin, U.S.A.
!
The Kimberly™ wood stove heater has been approved for residential, mobile homes, and alcove installations.
!
CANADA: The Kimberly™ wood stove heater is not approved for mobile home use in Canada.
!
UNPACKING KIMBERLY™
!
1. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater is shipped completely preassembled. After pulling the Kimberly™ from
the shipping box, remove the plastic from the exterior of the Kimberly™. Remove all documents and packing
material from the interior.
!
2. The grate/ash dump cover is a one-piece unit, and comes packed inside the Kimberly™ wood stove heater.
Unwrap the protective packaging from this piece and be sure that it is seated firmly in place at the bottom of
the combustion chamber. When tested, the grate/ash dump cover should not rock back and forth.
!
3. CAUTION: NEVER OPERATE THE KIMBERLY™ WOOD STOVE HEATER WITHOUT THE GRATE/ASH
DUMP COVER SEATED FIRMLY IN PLACE, AS DOING SO CAN CAUSE A RUN-AWAY FIRE.
!
GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
!
1. Read this entire manual before you install the Kimberly™ wood stove heater. Failure to follow the installation
and operating instructions may result in property damage, bodily injury, or even death.
!
2. When the Kimberly™ wood stove heater is not properly installed, a house fire may result. To reduce the risk
of fire, follow the installation instructions. Never utilize “make-shift” compromises during installation. Contact
local building or fire officials about restrictions and installation inspection requirements in your local area.
!
3. Always keep a fire extinguisher close to the Kimberly™ wood stove heater for safety, and know how to use it.
!
4. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater is certified to burn dry, well-seasoned wood. Burning wet wood will
drastically reduce the efficiency of the Kimberly™ and produce excessive amounts of smoke and creosote
buildup, a cause of dangerous chimney fires.
!
5. The outside surface of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater is very hot when in use, and could be a source of
ignition. Be sure to keep all furnishings such as drapes and other flammable items away from the stove.
Extreme caution must be used when drying clothing or other items near the stove.
!
6. Do not touch the Kimberly™ wood stove heater while it is burning except to reload fuel or adjust the damper/
draft control.
!
7. Teach children that the Kimberly™ wood stove heater is HOT and should never be touched. Do not allow
children to play near the stove without close supervision.
!
8. Always wear protective hearth gloves when adding fuel to the Kimberly™ wood stove heater to prevent
accidental burns to your skin.
!

9. Do not operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater with the door open. Not only will the Kimberly™ fail to
achieve secondary combustion and not operate properly with the door open, but the potential for stray
embers to leave the combustion chamber is a safety hazard.
!
10.Do not operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater without the grate/ash dump cover seated firmly in place at
at the bottom of the combustion chamber. Doing so can cause a run-away fire. Each time ash is removed
from the firebox, care must be taken to be sure that the grate/ash dump cover is again seated firmly in place.
When tested, the grate/ash dump cover should not rock back and forth.
!
11. If the damper/draft control does not work properly, there may be unseen pieces of debris remaining under the
grate/ash dump cover, allowing excessive air to enter the burn chamber and preventing secondary
combustion. Should this occur, stop the fire and re-clean the firebox.
!
12.Do not alter the damper/draft adjustment range beyond manufacturer’s recommendations for increased
firing. Attempts to achieve output rates that exceed stove design specifications can result in permanent
damage to the stove. As with any wood stove, burn and maintain moderate fires. Never leave the stove
unattended on high burn rates. This may cause over-firing. Over-firing the stove may cause a house fire. If
the stove glows red, you are over-firing.
!
13.Should a run-away fire develop in the combustion chamber of the stove, the door and the damper/ draft
control should be fully closed (to the right) so as to reduce the amount of oxygen available to the fire. This
should cause the fire to die down, as the oxygen is used up.
!
14.Use smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors near the stove and in sleeping areas. Carbon
monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that is produced as a byproduct of combustion.
Breathing carbon monoxide in sufficient concentrations can be fatal to humans and animals.
!
15.As with any wood stove, inspect the chimney at least once a month during the heating season for creosote
buildup. Any accumulation over 1/8th-inch (3 mm) should be removed by a professional chimney sweep. Do
not attempt to “burn out” heavy accumulations of creosote with a hot fire as this can cause a house fire,
damage to the chimney system, injury, or even death. If the chimney requires frequent cleaning, you should

16.Do not allow anyone to operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater who is not well familiar with the operating
instructions.
!
17.CAUTION: BEFORE OPENING THE DOOR, THE DRAFT CONTROL MUST BE FULLY OPENED (TO THE
LEFT) TO AVOID POSSIBLE COMBUSTION FLASH AS THE DOOR IS OPENED, CAUSED BY THE
IGNITION OF HOT VOLATILE GASES. See Diagrams #1 and #2.

18.CAUTION: DO NOT CONNECT THIS UNIT TO A CHIMNEY FLUE SERVING ANOTHER APPLIANCE.
!
19.WARNING: NEVER USE GASOLINE, GASOLINE-TYPE LANTERN FUEL, KEROSENE, CHARCOAL
LIGHTER FLUID, OR SIMILAR LIQUIDS TO START OR “FRESHEN UP” A FIRE IN THIS HEATER. KEEP

NEGATIVE PRESSURE WARNING
!
The Kimberly™ wood stove heater is not designed to be operated in negative pressure. Very air-tight homes,
with strong kitchen exhaust fans, or furnace cold air returns located in close proximity to the stove, may cause

negative pressure in the same room as the stove. This can cause dangerous back drafting of the stove and
chimney joints, enabling combustion by-products (smoke) to “spill” into the home. The use of an outside air kit
will most likely not solve this issue, as the negative pressure is not caused by the stove or chimney system.
Unforgettable Fire™ assumes no liability for damages caused by negative pressure.
!
CREOSOTE & CHIMNEY FIRES
!
1. When wood is burned slowly, it produces tar and other organic vapors. The organic vapors combine with
expelled moisture to form creosote. The creosote vapors condense in the relatively cool chimney flue
associated with a slow burning fire. As a result, creosote residue accumulates on the flue lining. When
ignited, this creosote can result in an extremely hot fire.
!
2. As with any wood stove, inspect the chimney at least once a month during the heating season for creosote
buildup. Any accumulation over 1/8th-inch (3 mm) should be removed by a professional chimney sweep. Do
not attempt to “burn out” heavy accumulations of creosote with a hot fire as this can cause a house fire,
damage to the chimney system, injury, or even death. If the chimney requires frequent cleaning, you should

3. Contact your local municipal or provincial fire authority for information on how to handle a chimney fire. All
family members should have a clearly understood plan.
!
4. Should a creosote fire develop in the chimney, contact the fire department immediately, then make attempts
to control the fire until help arrives. Applying small amounts of water, approximately one cup (0.25 liters) at a
time to the firebox will cause steam blasts to enter the chimney and stop the fire. Take precautions so the
steam does not burn your skin.
!
5. Alternatively, a Chimfex® chimney fire extinguisher inserted into the combustion chamber has been proven
to smother a chimney fire quickly without water, and is approved by the Chimney Safety Institute of America.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the package.
!
6. After any chimney fire, a professional chimney sweep should inspect the entire system before further use.
!
FUEL
!
1. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater is certified to burn dry, well-seasoned wood. When possible select a
close-grain hard wood known to have a high BTU content, such as oak, ash, hickory, maple, or madrone.
The wood should be stored off the ground in a wood shed, which is designed to allow plenty of air flow
through the stacks, and stored in such manner for a minimum of 6 months; 12 months is recommended.
!
2. The use of tarps for storing wood on the ground is strongly discouraged. While tarps do shed rain they also
prevent moisture in the wood from escaping. To become sufficiently dry to burn, wood can not be left in wet
or damp conditions. The Kimberly™ stove will not operate at the efficiency level for which it was designed
unless you burn properly seasoned wood at 20% moisture content or less. We recommend that you
purchase and use a moisture meter to be sure your wood is adequately seasoned.
!

CLEARANCE TO COMBUSTIBLES

WARNING: BE SURE THAT THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE KIMBERLY™ WOOD STOVE HEATER AND
THE SURFACE OF ANY COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL IS NOT LESS THAN DETAILED IN THIS MANUAL.
!
FLOOR PROTECTION
!
The floor underneath, to the sides, and to the rear of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater must be protected by a
minimum of 3/8-inch (1 cm) thick UL-1618 Type-1 floor pad, which is made from non-combustible material. The
floor pad must extend 18 inches (45.72 cm) in front of the loading door, 8 inches (20.32 cm) to the sides, and 12
inches (30.48 cm) to the rear, or to the wall, whichever is greater. Allow for the multi-fuel pellet venting pipe to
have a minimum 6-inch (15.24 cm) clearance from combustible materials. See Diagram #6.
!
ALCOVE CLEARANCES
!
The Kimberly™ wood stove heater is certified for use in alcoves with a minimum of 22 inches (55.88 cm) wide
up to a maximum of 48 inches (121.92 cm) deep, with a minimum 72-inch (182.88 cm) ceiling.
!
GENERAL INFORMATION ON CHIMNEY & CONNECTORS
!
1. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater is approved for four types of residential chimney systems: 1. Connecting
To A New Manufactured Chimney; 2. Connecting To A Pre-Existing Masonry Fireplace Chimney; 3. Relining A
Pre-Existing Masonry Chimney; and 4. Connecting To A Pre-Existing Manufactured Chimney. Instructions for
each type of chimney system are contained in this manual. We are happy to assist with questions. Call

2. Note that all approved chimney systems are vertical. None of the approved chimney systems exit
horizontally through a wall.
!
3. As with any wood stove, the relationship between the Kimberly™ wood stove heater and its chimney is much
like the relationship between the heart and lungs in the human body—neither can function efficiently without
the full cooperation of the other. It is therefore important that the chimney (the “lungs”) is the correct diameter
and height to ensure the Kimberly™ wood stove heater (the “heart”) functions to the efficiency for which it
was engineered.
!
4. Some situations may require additional venting components. Your Kimberly™ stove dealer will be able to
assist you in analyzing your specific needs. Alternatively, you may call Unforgettable Fire™ at
1-855-872-7868 or email [email protected] for further information. For example, if your
Kimberly™ wood stove heater is difficult to start, or smoke escapes into the room when the door is open,
your installation may require a longer chimney to improve the draft uptake; remember that slow or
inadequate draft equals poor combustion and possible smoking problems. Alternatively, if you can not
achieve sufficient burn time on a single fuel load, or your stove top often glows red, you may need an inline
chimney damper to reduce draft, especially in taller chimney applications.
!
5. CANADA: No chimney connector shall pass through an attic or roof space, closet, or similar concealed
space, or a floor, or ceiling. Where passage through a wall, or partition of combustible construction is
desired, the installation shall conform to CAN/CSA-B365, Installation Code for Solid-Fuel-Burning Appliances
and Equipment.

CONNECTING TO NEW MANUFACTURED CHIMNEY
!
1. See Diagram #10.
!
2. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater is approved to use any UL-Listed legally rated 3-inch (7.62 cm) double
wall (18-gauge stainless steel lined) multi-fuel pellet pipe as a connector from the flue outlet on the stove. We
recommend BioVent® Muti-Fuel Insulated Pellet Venting, available from Unforgettable Fire™ or your
authorized Kimberly™ dealer. A minimum of 5 feet (152.40 cm) in height is recommended. All joints must be
secured with at least 3 self-tapping screws per joint. In addition, ALL wall, ceiling, attic, and roof penetrations
must include approved wall thimble and/or rafter radiation shields, using 6-inch (15.24 cm) Type 103 HT
(U.S.) or ULC S629 (Canada) Class-A as a conduit in any and all pass-through areas, in accordance with
UL-Listed wood stove installations, and must meet all county and state requirements for such installations.
Never utilize make-shift compromises during installation.
!
3. When planning for the placement of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater, consider not only the footprint of the
Kimberly™ itself, and the required safety clearance from combustibles, but also the flow of traffic in the room.
In most cases, the obvious location for the Kimberly™ wood stove heater would be in the central part of the
house, to provide for more even heat distribution.
!
4. Refine your choice of location based upon venting requirements and the orientation of the home’s skeletal
frame. Plan for chimney access through the ceiling, attic, and roof, and for outside air intake, without
interference of studs and/or rafters, in order to maintain the structural integrity of the building.
!
5. Install a heat-and ember-resistant flood pad. See Floor Protection requirements and Diagram #6.
!
6. Wear gloves during installation to protect your hands and to prevent cuts from sharp metal edges.
!
7. Align the stove so that the flue opening will be located directly beneath the area where you will cut the hole in
the ceiling and roof for the chimney pipe, while meeting required safety clearances on all sides. Assemble
the 3-inch pellet pipe for a “test fitting” and check to see that the pipe is plumb. Mark the ceiling accordingly
and cut the holes for the chimney to pass through the ceiling, attic, and roof.
!
8. At the ceiling, through the attic and roof, install Type 103HT (U.S.) or ULC629 (Canada) Class-A UL-Listed
factory-built thimble and chimney pipe, and follow all manufacturer’s installation instructions for the Class-A
pipe. The 3-inch pellet pipe will connect to the Kimberly™ wood stove heater and will exit inside and at the
top of the Class-A pipe.

9. Before installation, remove all silicone gaskets (if present) from the joints of the pellet pipe, and dispose of
the gaskets appropriately. All joints must be secured with at least 3 self-tapping screws per joint.

10.CANADA: No chimney connector shall pass through an attic or roof space, closet, or similar concealed

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MOBILE HOME INSTALLATIONS IN THE U.S.A.
!
1. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater must be bolted to the mobile home chassis, using the three pre-drilled
holes at the base of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater, and three 1/2-inch hex-head bolts of 1/4-inch
diameter and 2-1/2 inches long (or the metric equivalent) which may be purchased at a hardware store.
!
2. All U.S.A. mobile home installations require an outside air kit (OAKP or OAKL) to provide the Kimberly™
wood stove heater with a supply of outside combustion air. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater has a 2-inch

fireplace chimney. If using another type of approved chimney system to vent your Kimberly™ wood stove
heater, then follow the appropriate instructions contained within this manual. We recommend BioVent®
Multi-Fuel Flexible Pellet Venting, available from Unforgettable Fire™ or your authorized Kimberly™ dealer.
Connections with the stove and at the top of the masonry fireplace chimney must be secured with at least 3
self-tapping screws per joint. Never utilize make-shift compromises during installation.

3. To remove any pre-existing creosote and ashes, the chimney and fireplace should be professionally cleaned.
Remove any grates from inside the fireplace.
!
4. Wear gloves to protect your hands and to prevent cuts from sharp metal edges. Unroll the 3-inch pellet pipe
on the ground outside the house, and straighten it as much as possible to make it easier to insert the pellet
pipe through the masonry chimney.
!
5. Climb onto the roof and remove the cap from the top of the masonry chimney and check for any obstacles in
the masonry flue.
!
6. Begin sliding the 3-inch pellet pipe into the masonry chimney. Due to the small 3-inch diameter of the pellet
pipe, little resistance should be felt as it passes through the masonry chimney. It may be helpful to have an
installation partner down below to assist with sliding the flexible pipe through the damper area.
!
7. From inside the house, adjust the 3-inch diameter pellet pipe to a 90-degree curve and pull it to the correct
length for attachment to the Kimberly™ wood stove heater. Remove any protective tape from the end of the
3-inch pellet pipe and fasten the pellet pipe to the Kimberly™ wood stove heater, using a minimum of three
self-tapping screws.

8. From the rooftop, pull the excess 3-inch pellet pipe from the top of the masonry fireplace chimney, leaving
sufficient length to fit into the chimney cap. Use a hacksaw or other cutting device to cut the pellet pipe.
Secure to the chimney cap with a minimum of three self-tapping screws.

9. When connected, use 3M™ Fireblock sealant (or equivalent) and concrete screws to secure the chimney
cap in place.
!
10. Install fiberglass insulation around the damper area inside the fireplace to prevent unwanted drafts from
entering the house through the chimney.

meet all county and state requirements for such installations. The masonry chimney itself must be lined with

pipe from the top of the masonry chimney down to the opening in the masonry chimney which

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MOBILE HOME INSTALLATIONS IN THE U.S.A.

PAINTING THE CHIMNEY
!
Should you choose to paint the pipe to match your decor, we recommend Stove Bright® paint, manufactured by
the Forrest Paint Company. During the period of time required for the paint to cure, the paint will off-gas, causing
a paint odor to be emitted.
!
STARTING & MAINTAINING A FIRE
!
1. When the installation is complete and it is time to lay a fire in the Kimberly™ wood stove heater, we urge
you to think small”. It is important to start with a small fire to warm the chimney and establish a good draft
in the chimney before building a bigger fire inside the combustion chamber.
!
2. Move the damper/draft control to the completely open position (to the left) and leave it open until the fire is
well established. Begin with a small handful of lightly crumpled paper in the bottom of the firebox. Next, lay
the kindling in a criss-cross pattern on top of the paper. Light the paper and close the door. Until a good draft
is established, you may notice some smoke escaping into the room from the bottom of the Kimberly™ wood
stove heater or the chimney connector. Using too much paper and kindling can result in a slow-to-start and/
or smokey fire, “puffing” and/or a backdraft. Allow the first kindling to burn most of the way before adding
more. Graduate to larger pieces of wood as the fire becomes more established.
!
3. We have found that the glass in the door will blacken during start-up, but will burn clean once the interior
temperatures reach approximately 800 degrees Fahrenheit (426 degrees Celsius). Once the fire is

sufficiently established to clean off the window, the damper/draft control should be moved to the mostly to
fully closed position (to the right).

4. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater incorporates a gasifier in the lower part of the combustion chamber with
a re-burner in the upper part of the combustion chamber. These components will perform best when the
stove has a well-established fire, with the damper/draft control mostly to fully closed (to the right). Make it a
habit during the first few days of burning the Kimberly™ wood stove heater to monitor the smoke output at
the chimney top, so as to fully understand the operation of the damper/draft control. There should be little to
no smoke exiting from the chimney, except for the initial start-up period (15-20 minutes) and at fuel reloading.
!
5. Operating the Kimberly™ wood stove heater with the damper/draft control open (to the left) at all times will
not provide the necessary conditions to enable the secondary combustion, and is not an efficient way to
operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater.
!
6. Note that if a new load of wood is placed on a sufficiently hot coal bed, it may be unnecessary to leave the
damper/draft control open for 15-20 minutes after reloading to ignite the new load of wood.
!
REPLACING THE GRATE/ASH DUMP COVER
!
1. The grate/ash dump cover is a one-piece unit. Never operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater without the
grate/ash dump cover seated firmly in place, as doing so can cause a run-away fire. When tested, the grate/
ash dump cover should not rock back and forth.
!
2. The four metal tabs covering the air intake tubes in the base of the combustion chamber should be cleaned
every two to three days to remove any ash which has accumulated and ensure adequate oxygen is available
for combustion. After removing ashes from the firebox, care must be taken to be sure that the grate/ash
dump cover is correctly reinstalled, and is seated firmly in place.
!
3. Test the damper/draft control by moving it from one direction to the other. If the damper/draft control does not
operate properly, there may be unseen debris under the grate/ash dump cover, which can allow excessive air
into the combustion chamber and interfere with secondary combustion. Should this occur, stop the fire and
re-clean the firebox.
!

ASH DISPOSAL
!
1. Ashes should always be placed in a steel container with a tight fitting lid, and the container placed on a non-
combustible surface or on bare ground, well away from all combustible materials, pending final disposal. If
the ashes are disposed of by burial in soil or otherwise locally dispersed, they should be retained in the
closed container until all cinders have thoroughly cooled.
!
2. Before replacing the ash pan at the base of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater, re-insert the heat deflecting
plate in the bottom of the ash pan, orientated so that the bent corners are facing down. This creates a small
air space between the ashes and the bottom of the ash pan drawer, and aids in the safe operation of your
Kimberly™ wood stove heater.

BREAK-IN PERIOD
!
1. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater will experience a “break-in” period, known to produce specific sounds and
odors. Note that it is normal for the first fires to start slowly and produce a reduced heat output, as the
Kimberly™ wood stove heater goes through a period of driving off moisture, contained deep within its
stainless steel components. You may hear some “pops” or “bangs” as the stainless steel is exposed to its
first heating and cooling cycles. You may also smell odors from oil residues, remaining from the
manufacturing process, as they burn off. These conditions will cease within a few hours to days of
aggressive burning.

2. The Kimberly™ wood stove heater will achieve its cleanest and longest burn with the damper/draft control in
the mostly to fully closed position (to the right). This feature is unique to the Kimberly™ wood stove heater.
Other wood stoves require the damper/draft control to be open about 1/3 to enable sufficient primary air to
enter the burn chamber in order to maintain a smokeless burn.
!

connector glows red, you are over-firing. It is not uncommon to develop temperatures of 1000 degrees
Fahrenheit (538 degrees Celsius) on the stove top surface. Not only can over-firing potentially damage the
stove, but any adjacent combustible materials could be exposed to excessively high temperatures and
potentially ignite.

TROUBLESHOOTING
!
The Kimberly™ wood stove heater was designed to provide many years of trouble-free service. Proper function
of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater is dependent upon proper installation and function of its chimney, much like
the heart and lungs must cooperate in the human body. Most user challenges are easily solved when owners
follow the 5-point troubleshooting checklist below:
!
1. Check the chimney for any sign of obstruction, such as a build-up of creosote. If the Kimberly™ wood stove
heater is spilling smoke with the door open, poor chimney performance is the likely cause.
!
2. Check the four metal tabs covering the air intake tubes in the base of the combustion chamber to ensure
they are free of ash so as not to block the flow of air into the combustion chamber. Check the grate/ash
dump cover to be sure that it is firmly seated in place. Never operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater
without the grate/ash dump cover. Doing so can cause a run-away fire. After removing ashes from the firebox
each time, care must be taken to be sure that the grate/ash dump cover is correctly re-seated firmly in place.
When tested, the grate/ash dump cover should not rock back and forth.

handle in the fully-closed position. Failure to do so can cause unwanted air to enter the combustion chamber
and interfere with the secondary combustion.

After a fire has been well established in the combustion chamber, the best indicator that the Kimberly™ wood

PROTECTING THE GLASS WINDOW
!
1. Care should be taken to not damage the glass window in the door of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater, such
as striking the glass, or closing the door against a protruding fuel load. Caution should be taken to keep the
fire burning towards the back of the Kimberly™ stove at all times, and away from the glass.

CLEANING THE GLASS WINDOW
!
1. Not only can the glass window add to the ambiance and user enjoyment of the Kimberly™ wood stove
heater, but the glass window also provides the means to view the fuel load and flame pattern, which may be
helpful in monitoring secondary combustion.
!
2. The operator plays an important part in keeping the glass clean and free of build-up. Burn only well-
seasoned firewood. Simply put, burning wet wood = dirty glass.
!
3. Although no wood stove glass stays perfectly clean all of the time, keeping the glass clean is aided by the air
wash system, which flows fresh combustion air over the window. Higher burning temperatures inside the
combustion chamber also assist in keeping the glass clean, while cooler burning temperatures can cause
condensation of unburned volatiles to form on the glass.
!
4. Should it become necessary to manually clean the glass, first allow the Kimberly™ wood stove heater to
cool to a safe handling temperature, so that you will not get burned. Rutland® Conditioning Glass Cleaner is
an effective formula to remove creosote buildup from wood stove glass without scratching. Be sure to follow
the manufacturer’s instructions on the label.
!
5. Do not touch the glass while hot. Do not clean the glass while hot. Never scrape the glass with a razor blade.
Never use abrasive cleaners on the glass. Doing so can scratch or pit the glass and make it impossible to
clean in the future.
!
REPLACING DAMAGED GLASS
!
1. Never operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater with cracked or broken glass. The Kimberly™ wood stove
heater uses 3/16-inch (4.76 mm) thick Neoceram™ (or equivalent) heat-resistant glass-ceramic, measuring
3-5/16th inch (8.42 cm) in width by 7-5/16th inch (18.57 cm) in height.
!
2. Pre-cut replacement Neoceram™ glass-ceramic windows are available for purchase from Unforgettable
Fire™. Call 1-855-872-7868 or email [email protected] for purchase information, or contact
your authorized Kimberly™ dealer. Do not substitute with glass made by another manufacturer. Do not
substitute with glass of another thickness. Damaged glass is not covered under warranty.
!
3. To replace the Neoceram™ glass-ceramic window in the Kimberly™ wood stove heater, first allow the
Kimberly™ to cool to a safe handling temperature, so that you will not get burned. Lift the glass door from its
hinges and apply a liberal amount of a penetrating catalyst lubricant, such as PB Blaster® to the nuts holding
the glass clips in place. Let the penetrating catalyst lubricant soak for a minimum of 10 minutes. Loosen and
remove the nuts, using an open-end wrench.
!
4. Carefully remove the pieces of broken glass. Remove any fine glass shards. Place the 3/16-inch
replacement fiberglass gasket and the replacement Neoceram™ glass-ceramic window against the inside of
the door. Replace the glass clips, and tighten the nuts evenly, moving from one to another, much like one
would tighten lug nuts on the wheel of a car.
!
5. It is necessary for the clips to be sufficiently tight to keep the glass in place. Caution should be taken not to
under-tighten or over-tighten the nuts, which hold the glass clips.
!
6. Never operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater with damaged or missing glass clips.
!
REPLACING THE DOOR GASKET
!
1. The door gasket is made from 5/8-inch tight weave fiberglass gasket rope. Periodically test the gasket seal
by closing the door with a dollar bill placed between the door and the frame of the Kimberly™ wood stove

heater. If the dollar bill pulls out easily, the seal is not tight and the gasket should be replaced. Repeat this
test in several locations along the parameter of the door to be sure that the seal is consistently tight.
!
2. Before replacing the door gasket, first allow the heater to cool to a safe handling temperature so that you will
not get burned. The gasket is inserted into a channel built into the frame of the door and is never glued. To
replace the door gasket, gently push the replacement gasket into the channel with your fingers.
!
3. Always use Rutland® brand fiberglass gasket rope (or the equivalent). Rutland® recommends that to ensure
efficiency of your wood stove heater, the gasket should be replaced on an annual basis. Gaskets are not
covered under warranty.
!
REPLACING THE COMBUSTOR
!
1. Never burn pitchy or wet wood. Burning wood with a moisture content of greater than 20% may clog the
combustor and require that it be cleaned.
!
2. Should the combustor need to be removed or replaced, you will need to allow the heater to cool to a safe
handling temperature so that you will not get burned.
!
3. Using a 5/32-inch Allen wrench, carefully remove the 8 hex-head bolts, which are seated flush against the
circular metal top of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater. When loosening the bolts, move from one to another,
loosening the bolts evenly, much like one would loosen lug nuts on the wheel of a car.
!
4. If the hex-head bolts are difficult to loosen, then warm the metal top of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater and
try again, using caution so as not to strip the heads or threads of the bolts. If this is not successful in
releasing the bolts, then apply a liberal amount of a penetrating catalyst lubricant, such as PB Blaster®. Let
the penetrating catalyst lubricant soak for a minimum of 10 minutes before trying again.
!
5. Remove the circular metal top of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater. Then use a 7/16-inch open-end wrench
to remove the hex-head bolts, which secure the L-brackets holding the combustor in place.
!
6. Remove the L-brackets and lift the combustor out of the stove, taking care to observe the top and bottom
orientation before removal.
!
7. Insert the new combustor so that the smaller holes are placed at the top and the bigger holes are placed at
the bottom. Replace the L-brackets and tighten the bolts.
!
8. Be sure the top gasket is situated on the outside of bolt holes, adjacent to the inside rim. Replace the circular
metal top of the Kimberly™ wood stove heater and reinsert the 8 hex-head bolts. When tightening bolts,
move from one to another, tightening the bolts evenly, much like one would tighten lug nuts on the wheel of a
car.
!
9. Gaskets can shrink with use. If the circular metal stove top is not bolted tightly, or if the gasket has shrunk,
and therefore fails to form a tight seal, smoke may escape from the top of the Kimberly™ wood stove. A poor
seal may cause the intake of unwanted oxygen, which may interfere with secondary combustion, and
thereby reduce the efficiency of your Kimberly™ wood stove heater. Gaskets are not covered under
warranty. Always use 1/4-inch Rutland® brand fiberglass gasket rope (or the equivalent) if your gasket needs
to be replaced.
!
HEATING YOUR HOME
!
1. The Kimberly™ wood stove incorporates a gasifier in the lower part of the combustion chamber, turning
wood into wood smoke. The smoke is re-burned as fuel in the upper part of the combustion chamber during
secondary combustion before it exits the stove through the chimney. Wood gasification is a very efficient
method of heating with wood.
!
2. The process of releasing the wood gas (smoke) is called, pyrolysis, defined as, decomposition brought
about by high temperatures. It is the burning of the wood gas (smoke) in the secondary combustion that
produces much of the heat in the Kimberly™ wood stove heater. During secondary combustion, active live

flames will gradually diminish, leaving coals. The coals will continue to release heat into the room, until they
too have extinguished, or until another load of wood is added to the combustion chamber to begin the
burning cycle again.
!
3. As with any wood stove, there are many variables that can affect burn times and heat output. Softwoods
such as Douglas Fir and pine will burn more quickly and produce less heat than hardwoods such as oak,
ash, hickory, maple, or madrone.
!
4. The temperature of your space will be determined by many factors including the square footage and ceiling
height of your space, the stove’s placement within your space, the size and frequency of your loads of wood,
the species and moisture content of your wood, and the ability of your space to retain heat. The ability of
your space to retain heat is influenced by local climate and weather conditions, type and thickness of
insulation, number of windows and window quality, air flow, and humidity levels.
!
5. Burning dry, seasoned wood of 20% moisture content or less will produce more heat, longer burn times, and
less creosote than wood containing greater than 20% moisture content. Your investment in a moisture meter
with an accuracy of +/- 1% will help you get the most heat from the least amount of wood.
!
DO’S
!
1. While the Kimberly™ wood stove heater has been engineered and tested to the strictest of UL-safety
standards, it the users responsibility to operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater at all times with safety
as the foremost concern.
!
2. Please read this entire manual before you install the Kimberly™ wood stove heater. Failure to follow
instructions may result in property damage, bodily injury, or even death.
!
3. Follow the recommended clearances and floor protection as outlined in this manual.
!
4. Keep combustible materials away from the area.
!
5. Check joints in the flue and stove to be sure that they are properly sealed.
!
6. Use smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors near the stove and in sleeping areas. Keep a fire
extinguisher close to the stove for safety, and know how to use it.
!
7. Always operate the Kimberly™ wood stove heater with the grate/ash dump cover seated firmly in place.
When tested, the grate/ash dump cover should not rock back and forth.
!
8. Always wear protective hearth gloves when adding fuel to the Kimberly™ wood stove heater to prevent
accidental burns to your skin.
!
9. Teach children that the Kimberly™ wood stove heater is HOT and should never be touched. Do not allow
children to play near the stove without close supervision.
!
10.After a fire has been well established in the Kimberly™ wood stove heater, it should be operated with the
damper/draft control in the mostly to fully closed position (to the right). There should be little to no smoke
exiting the chimney except during start-up (15-20 minutes) and when reloading fuel.
!
11. Before opening the door, the damper/draft control must be fully opened (to the left) to avoid possible
combustion flash, the ignition of hot volatile gases, as the door is opened.
!
12.Learn the proper methods of selecting and drying fire wood. When possible, choose a close-grain hardwood,
known to have a high BTU content, such as oak, ash, hickory, maple, or madrone. Immediately cut to size
and store wood fuel off the ground, on pallets, and stacked to facilitate maximum air flow. The use of tarps
for storing wood on the ground is strongly discouraged. While tarps do shed rain they also prevent moisture
in the wood from escaping.
