CHAPTER 1
GENERAL TIPS ON THE USE OF SODHOG OR SUPER-TOOTH SODHOG:
1. GENERAL CAUTION: Read this entire SODHOG Operator’s Manual before attempting to install any
attachment. Keep bystanders away 15m (50 ft) when operating. Always wear safety gloves and safety
apparel during operations. Keep feet and hands away from cutting head. Failure to follow the warnings
could result in serious injury. Never handle, attempt to change or remove the cutting head while
engine is ON or RUNNING. Inspect area of operation and remove all foreign objects such as glass, cans,
rocks, metals, wires, etc. prior to use. Be alert to vibrations or damage to your cutting head or gas
powered equipment, turn engine off and inspect for damage.
2. DANGER WARNING: Do not attempt to make any adjustments or modifications to the cutter
head or Shield Assembly. Unauthorized modifications can lead to premature failure of your Sodhog and
could cause serious injury as well as voiding any and all warranties.

3. SODHOG FAMILY
a. SODHOG. Best used to remove grass/weeds in all areas such as gardens; flower beds;
weeded areas of lawn with thin St Augustine Type grass to prepare the surface for re-soding.
b. SUPER-TOOTH SODHOG. Works best to remove heavy grass/weeds in all areas because
the cutting teeth have a larger bite depth and the teeth are Carbide-Capped. The teeth will remain sharp up
to 15 times longer than standard cutting teeth. Designed to be used with thick Bahia or St Augustine type
grasses.
c. It is recommended that a commercial grade handheld gas powered edger be used with the
Sodhog.
4. The Sodhog family of attachments are designed to remove grass from areas that you cannot reach
with a commercial sod cutter. Such as areas that are too small for the cutter; areas around tree roots;
flower beds; gardens; sides of a hill; areas close to structures or fencing.
5. The Sodhog should not be used in areas with numerous rocks or stones. Good condition or new
cutting teeth should be removed and replaced with an old worn out set of cutting teeth for rocky or
concrete surfaces and save the good condition teeth to replace the old teeth.
6. Use ALL Sodhog cutting heads at medium speed (RPMs). If more
throttle is needed, push down on the cutting head to keep the edger running at a medium speed. The
cutting head actually works better at a slower speed because it allows the cutting teeth time to bite into the
grass or ground surface area.

SODHOG/SUPER-TOOTH SODHOG CUTTING HEAD ASSEMBLY
Page 3
Open your SODHOG package and identify all the parts listed for the Hub (See Parts Lists) and the illustration
in Diagram above. The cutting head has been pre-assembled and ready to receive the appropriate adapter
for the edger you have. Care must be taken as to not disturb the current cutting pattern of the teeth. If the
chain loops have been shaken loose during shipment, reinstall using the Recommended Cutting head
patterns shown below. If the adapter you choose does not tighten up against the Inner Washer (Item - 7),
do not force the adapter, contact RBGONE, INC. Customer Service Dept @ 904-813-4902 for assistance.
1. The diagrams shown above are the recommended configurations for the three cutting hubs
assemblies.
a. During the entire assembly process, be sure to follow the above diagrams for the positioning
of the cutting tooth. They should line up across the cutting head assembly in one single row or teeth.
b. Start with the Hub #1, by fitting one Chain Loop (Item 2) on the hub, followed by four
Nylon Spacers (Item 3); one chain loop followed by four Nylon Spacers; one chain loop followed by four
Nylon Spacers . The Sodhog is designed for each chain loop to fit in only one direction, so no chain loop can
be installed backwards. Upon completion of this step, set assembled Hub #1 aside.
c. Hub #2 starts with three Nylon Spacers on the hub; one chain loop followed by four Nylon
Spacers; one chain loop followed by four Nylon Spacers; one chain loop followed by three Nylon Spacers.
Set aside.
d. Hub #3, starts by fitting one Chain Loop (Item 2) on the hub, followed by four Nylon
Spacers (Item 3); one chain loop followed by four Nylon Spacers; one chain loop followed by four Nylon
Spacers . The Sodhog is designed for each chain loop to fit in only one direction, so no chain loop can be
installed backwards. Upon completion of this step, set assembled Hub #3 aside.
Page 4
2. Select the appropriate adapter from the three provided. If the adapter you have selected has a
notch on it, insert the notch side into hub assembly first. If it is one or the other two insert largest hole end
into Hub first.
3. To finish the Hub assembly, place the End Cap (Item 4) on and secure with 3/8" x 6 Hex bolt and
lock washer through the hub so it screws into the adapter and securely tighten bolt (Item 5). If the 3/8" bolt
does not easily threads into the adapter, do not force, contact RBGONE, INC Customer Service @ 904-813-
4902 for assistance. TIGHTEN SECURELY.
(Note: All adapters are configured with a left hand thread pattern on the end that attaches to the
edger power head and a 3/8"x 20x6", right handed thread Hex Bolt on the opposite end.) DO NOT USE THE
3/8" x 20x6" BOLT TO TIGHTEN THE CUTTING HEAD TO THE EDGER.
4. Installing Cutting Head on Edger. Ensure edger is turned off before attempting the following: Lay
edger face up on a flat surface, edger blade up. Remove the edger blade, retaining bolt or nut along with the
edger cap washer (retain for future use) and place Hub Washer (Item 7) on the 1” cullet or protrusion on the
edger power head in the place where the flat blade was. With the use of safety gloves attach the
completed Hub Assembly and tighten only hand tight. Remember you have a left hand thread
pattern on the adapter. If the adapter you choose does not tighten up against the Inner Washer (Item - 7), do
not force the adapter, contact RBGONE, INC. Customer Service Dept @ 904-813-4902 for assistance.
SODHOG/SUPER-TOOTH CHAIN MAINTENANCE
NOTE: The rakes/chain gauges for any replacement chains for the Sodhog or the
Super-Tooth Sodhog must be ground off before use. The best method would be to
totally assembly the Sodhog, then being careful, grind all the rakes across the
entire Sodhog at one time.

CHAPTER 6 CARBIDE Chain Loop Sharpening Program Page 8
We realize that during the use of the Super-Tooth Roothog you may, on occasion, strike or get involved with
loose gravel or cement surfaces. This will damage the cutting teeth making them unable to perform as
advertised. Do not discard the cutting teeth, just return them to RBGONE, INC for sharpening. There are no
known sources that have the ability to sharpen the chain loops on any standard chainsaw sharpening
machines. It requires a sharpener with a special sharpening wheel to do the job professionally.
We have designed a special chain tooth sharpener for carbide-teeth, that will accommodate small chain
loops. We offer a sharpening program for sharpening either 7 Carbide-Tipped or 6 Carbide-Capped or 11
Carbide-Capped (Sodhog) chain loops. Follow the steps below:
PLACE YOUR ORDER for chain loop sharpening on our website: www.roothog1.com prior to shipping.
Remove chains from cutting head - place in a 4x7 bubble pack Size # 0000 or similar container, seal
and send to RBGONE, Inc. @ 1127 Fishermans Way, Fleming Island, Florida 32003 by USPS.
We will have the chain loops cleaned, professionally sharpened and shipped back to you within 5
working days of receipt.
Return shipping by USPS included in the sharpening cost.
7 - Carbide-Tipped or 6 - Carbide-Capped chain loops cleaned, sharpened and returned - $45.00
11 - Carbide-Capped chain loops cleaned, sharpened and returned- $70.00.
