DO 4003 helps to save your life and protect your home 24 hours a
day. It has been designed especially for monitoring private
residences (house or apartment).
Any detection of smoke is indicated by triggering a powerful
audible alarm and by sending a warning message to the main unit.
DO 4003 is not a gas detector.
3. RECOMMENDED POSITIONING
For optimum protection:
Place a detector in each room, avoiding wrong positioning
indicated under 4.
For basic protection:
Fit a detector on each storey.
Fit a detector close to sleeping areas (for example, on the
landing leading to the bedrooms; if the corridor is longer than
10m, fit 1 detector at each end).
Fit a detector in each bedroom occupied by a smoker.
If that is not possible, attach the
detector to the wall:
At a distance of between
15 and 25cm from the ceiling.
More than 60cm from any corner
of the room.
4. WRONG POSITIONING
Do not fit the detector:
Less than 1m from heating, cooling or ventilation vents. The
smoke could be removed or diluted.
In a location where there is a risk of the temperature
dropping below 0°C or rising above +50°C; risk of improper
functioning of the detector.
In a room where there is a risk of condensation. Do not fit in
bathrooms and laundries.
Where smoke may be released (badly-ventilated kitchen or
garage) and generate undesirable alarms.
In a location that is too dusty.
Beyond the radio range of the main unit
On metal surfaces

5. DETECTOR INSTALLATION
Now that you have read paragraphs 1 to 4, you are ready to install
your DO 4003 detector.
Remove the base of the detector by turning anticlockwise.
Put the base on the intended
location and mark the position of
the 2 fastening holes with a
pencil.
Use the 2 fastening screws
and dowels provided. Fasten
the base securely.
Fit the battery (see 6).
Fasten the detector onto the
base by turning clockwise
until it clicks into place.
DO 4003 is supplied with
disconnected battery.
DO 4003 is provided with
a safety device which
prevents it from clicking
into place without battery.
7. FUNCTIONAL CHECK OF DO 4003
The commissioning procedure is described in the instructions for
the radio main unit to which it is connected.
In normal operation, DO 4003 flashes red once a minute. You
must check the full operation of your detector, once a month or
after each time you change the battery, but pressing the "TEST"
button on the cover (marked in 5) for about 10 seconds.
The indicator light of the DO 4003 flashes.
Then, the alarm sounds a shrill tone and the main unit
changes to fire alarm mode.
Releasing the button will cause the alarm to stop
immediately.
Make the occupants of your residence familiar with the sound of
the DO 4003 and get them used to evacuating the house when
they hear it.
Keep a reasonable distance away from the detector (arm
extended) to protect your hearing from the very powerful
sound.
Very powerful sound > 85dBA at 3m (94dBA at 1m)
Do not attempt to cause an alarm by other means (using
a lighter, etc.) ; you could damage the detector or worse, start
a fire.
9. LIMIT OF THE SMOKE ALARM
The smoke alarm is a piece of equipment that allows a rapid
warning of the start of a fire at a reasonable cost; nevertheless,
domestic fires start in a number of different ways and are often
unpredictable. A smoke alarm may, in certain cases, not warn of a
fire if:
The battery is low or the wrong type (see 6).
The electronics are faulty, which must be checked as
indicated in 7.
Maintenance has never been done (see 8).
It has been positioned wrongly (see instructions in 4).
The smoke has not reached it. The smoke alarm cannot
detect smoke generated by a fire situated on another storey
or on the other side of a door.
It is outside the range of the radio-electric main unit (see 7).
For maximum protection, it is advisable to place 1 detector in
each room
DO 4003 helps save lives, but you will still need to
protect persons & property and insure them.
The useful service life of the detector is 10 years when it
is placed in a good environment.
6. CHANGING THE BATTERY
Your DO 4003 detector will emit an audible beep every minute if
the battery is low. Therefore, you have to change the battery
immediately by proceeding as follows:
Remove the detector from its base (rotating anticlockwise).
Remove the old battery. Do no throw away the battery but
take it back to your distributor.
Put a new battery 9Vdc of ALKALINE type (models
DURACELL MN1604, EVEREADY 522), guaranteeing an
operation of 5 years.
Check that the battery is connected properly and put it back
into its compartment.
Fasten the detector onto the base
by turning clockwise
until it clicks
into place.
Check the proper operation
of the DO 4003 (7).
We advise you to change the ALKALINE battery every 5 years.
Never use a rechargeable battery.
8. MAINTENANCE
Your detector has been designed to be low maintenance.
However, a few simple operations are to be carried out once a
year; After removing the detector:
Clean the slots of the detector (situated on the side) with a
vacuum cleaner, by using a soft brush or directly with one of
its attachments.
Use a slightly damp cloth to clean the outside of the cover.
It is recommended that you replace the detector after 10 years.
If your detector is fitted in a dirty place, it must be
cleaned more often.
Maintenance of your detector is important to maintain
your safety; Dirty equipment may either trigger wrongly or
trigger late.
If there are repeated unjustified alarms, check that the
instructions in 4, on where it must not be put, have been
followed.
The audible alarm can be stopped by removing the battery
(see 6), after removing the detector from its base; Clean the
detector, put the battery back in and put the detector back
onto its base.
