SAFETY AND GENERAL INFORMATION
Refer to your phones user guide for all safety information relating to
phone operation.
To assure optimal performance when you are using the surveillance kit and
to make sure that human exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic
energy is within national and international guidelines, follow the
instructions for proper phone usage in your phones user guide, including
positioning of the phone.
To maintain optimum signal strength and to ensure compliance with FCC
regulations, keep surveillance headset cables at least one inch (1) from the
phones antenna at all times.
Persons with pacemakers should ALWAYS keep the phone more than six
(6) from the pacemaker when the phone is turned ON.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Refer to your phones user guide for warranty information relating to your
phone.
Motorola, Aftermarket Accessories Division (Motorola) warrants the
Surveillance Headset Adapter Accessories against defects in material and
workmanship under normal use and service for a period of one (1) year
from shipment. Items will be replaced or repaired free of charge for the full
warranty period. Freight charges to and from the place where warranty
replacement is provided shall be the Customers responsibility.
The warranty does NOT cover defects or damages to the Surveillance
Headset and Adapter Accessories resulting from (a) use in a manner other
than normal operation as specifies in the Instruction Manual, (b) misuse,
accident, or neglect, (c) improper assembly, testing, operations,
maintenance, installation, adjustment, alteration, repair or any modification
by the customer or any other person without the prior written consent of
Motorola.

If replacement under warranty is necessary:
a. Place a confirming warranty order through the Centralized Cus-
tomer Service at (800) 422-4210.
b. Send defective material, within 45 days of confirming warranty
order to:

c. The Customer will not be invoiced for the replacement item if orig-
inal, identical items are shipped to the Warranty Department
within 45 days.
DESCRIPTION
The NTN9298 Surveillance Kit consists of a two-wire surveillance
headset, with an earpiece and a microphone with a push-to-talk switch, and
an adapter to attach the headset to your iDEN portable. This accessory
permits concealed and private operation of the iDEN portable.
SURVEILLANCE ADAPTER
The Surveillance Adapter connects the surveillance headset to your phone
for privacy and hands-free operation. The Surveillance Adapter fits onto

the bottom of the phone and provides standard 2.5mm jack connection for
the surveillance headset.
Only the 5085665C01 Surveillance headset is compatible with the
Surveillance Adapter. Use of any non-Motorola approved headset with the
Surveillance Adapter may damage the phone, or cause it to malfunction.
Damage caused by using non-Motorola approved accessories may void
your warranty. See your phones user guide for more information.
ATTACHING/DETACHING THE SUR-
VEILLANCE HEADSET
1. Insert the 2.5 mm plug of the Surveillance
headset cord into the jack of the surveil-
lance Adapter.
2. Pull on the plug, not on the cord, to
remove the Surveillance headset.

USING THE SURVEILLANCE
ADAPTER AND SURVEILLANCE
HEADSET
1. Hold the phone and the Surveillance
Adapter facing you so that you can see the
Motorola logo on the adapter.
2. Insert the Surveillance Adapters connec-
tor into the Bottom Accessory Connector.
You will hear the connector snap into
place.
3. Attach the Surveillance Headset.
4. Once installation is complete, adjust the volume to a comfortable level.
Use the remote push to talk button for private or group calls, or use the
push to talk button on the phone.
5. Speak into the headset microphone.
Note: When the Surveillance Adapter is connected, all audio, including
tones, will be routed to the audio accessory’s earpiece except ringing
from incoming calls and private or group call chirps.
REMOVING THE SURVEILLANCE ADAPTER
1. Simultaneously press the release buttons located on either side of the
Surveillance Adapter.
2. Pull the Surveillance Adapter from the phone.

EARPIECE ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
to change the earloop from a right ear to a left ear application, detach the
standard eartip from the earphone. Remove the urethane earloop from the
earphone. Flip the earloop from a right ear position to a left ear position.
Place the earloop against the earphone. Replace the standard eartip.
