**IMPORTANT PRODUCT INFORMATION**
If you find your unit switches itself off regularly, this is not a fault.
Due to the ErP Stage 2 requirements for power saving measures, a unit which is connected to the mains power will
switch itself off automatically if no music has been playing for over 15 minutes.
Switch the unit off and then on again to re-activate it.
**ErP2 – EUROPEAN DIRECTIVE – FROM JANUARY 2013
The Energy-related Products Directive ErP2 impacts all energy-related products sold within the EU.
To improve energy efficiency and for environmental protection, the ErP2 Directive, which is a European legislation as part of CE
marking, applies to products that affect energy consumption during use. From January 2013 this Directive has required Manufacturers
and / or Importers to offer products designed to reduce their overall impact on the environment, including the resources consumed
during use, manufacture and disposal.
If this unit keeps switching itself off regularly, there are 2 options:
The Power Saving feature on this unit – which is there to comply with ‘ErP Stage 2’ Regulations – switches the unit off
when the unit is not operated or there is no music playing for over 15 minutes.
1. Re-activate the unit by TAPPING the Standby/On button (21.) to switch the unit OFF and then to ON again.
2. Alternatively, you have the option to switch the ERP2 over-ride switch (46.) on the rear of the unit to OFF to disable
this power saving feature.

socket of the other unit.
HEADPHONE CONNECTION
Connect your headphones (not included) to the 3.5mm dia. Headphone Jack (18.) for private listening.
Caution: Before listening, make sure the volume is adjusted to a safe and comfortable level.
CAUTIONS:
- Avoid extended play at a very high volume as it may impair your hearing.
- If you experience ringing in your ears, reduce the volume or shut off your unit.
- Keep the volume at a reasonable and safe level - even if your headset is an open-air type designed to allow you to
hear outside sounds. Please note that excessively high volume may still block outside sounds.

TURNTABLE OPERATION
BEFORE PLAYING A RECORD:
This product has been upgraded with a flip-over stylus, which has two different needles built into
one Stylus Holder, so before playing a record, select the correct needle for the correct RPM/size
record (‘78’ for a 78rpm record or ‘LP’ for 33
1
/
3
& 45rpm records should be visible, whichever is
applicable). To do so, first remove the white Stylus Protector/cover by pulling it gently off the
Stylus Holder and Cartridge and towards you (keep this for future use to protect the Stylus when not
using the Record Player), then push the white ‘handle’ down and over to the other side.
PLAYING A RECORD
1. Turn the Power on with the STANDBY/ON/OFF button (21.) .
2. Tap the FUNCTION button (22.) repeatedly to select the Phono (Turntable) function – on the display it will show:
‘PHON’
3. Ensure that the Tone Arm Clip (38.) has been pushed up and to the right to release the Tone Arm before operating
(re-secure the Tone Arm after playing and before moving the unit to a different location).
4. Flip the Stylus Holder handle down and over to select either the “LP” or “78” setting, depending on the type of record
to be played.
5. Set the Speed Selector Switch (37.) to the correct setting, depending on the record to be played (33
1
/
3
/45/78rpm).
6. Place a record on the turntable platter - use the 45rpm spindle adaptor (36.) if necessary.
7. Lift the tone arm from the arm rest with the Cueing Lever (50) so it is in the ‘up’ position and move
it slowly to the edge of the record - the turntable will start rotating - then gently place the tone arm
on the desired position where you wish it to start playing.
8. Lower the Cueing Lever - the Tone Arm will slowly go down onto the record and start playing.
9. Adjust the volume level by turning the VOLUME control on the front panel (23.).
10. When the record has stopped playing, the turntable will automatically stop rotating - unless the
Auto-Stop switch (39.) has been switched to OFF – refer to the TURNTABLE AUTO-STOP FUNCTION section in the
main Manual.
11. Lift the tone arm off the record and return it to the arm rest.
12. To manually stop the Turntable rotating before the end of the record, carefully lift the tone arm off the record and
return it to the arm rest by hand.
TURNTABLE AUTO-STOP FUNCTION
Some longer vinyl records will stop playing before the last track has finished, because the auto-stop setting required is just
outside the unit’s pre-set area. If that is the case, move the AUTO STOP Switch (39.) to the “OFF“ position, this will allow
the tone arm to carry on to the end of the record.
Notes:
With the switch in the “OFF” position, the turntable will not stop turning at the end of the record, so to stop the turntable
rotating, turn the unit off or switch the AUTO STOP switch back to the “ON“ position, then return the Tone Arm to the
Arm Rest.
With the Switch in the “OFF” position, the turntable will start rotating as soon as ‘PHONO’ mode is selected.
– Important: If anything is plugged into the “
AUX-IN“
socket, the turntable will not be able to rotate!
PITCH ADJUSTMENT CONTROL
It is possible to make very slight adjustments to the turntable speed with the PITCH CONTROL (49).
If you found the turntable speed is slightly slower than normal, turn the Pitch Control (49) in the “ + “ direction.
If you found the turntable speed is slightly faster than normal, turn the Pitch Control (49) in the “ - “ direction.
STYLUS REPLACEMENT
When the stylus eventually needs replacing, a replacement stylus (Code ‘SSTY8’ suitable for 33
1
/

Note: the section below shows how to encode to USB from CDI:
MP3 ENCODING FROM CD (RECORDING FROM THE “CDIPLAYER IS RECOMMENDED)
ENCODING ONE CD TRACK OR A COMPLETE DISC
1. Plug the USB device (e.g. a Flash Drive) that you wish to record onto into the USB Port (8.) - make sure it has enough
memory to allow encoding and only contains MP3 format files.
2. Select the CD I mode by TAPPING the “ Function“ button (22.) and set it in STOP mode. The CD I operation display
area (2.) will show the TOC (Table of Contents) on the disc in CD I.
3. Tap the “USB Record“ button (11.) to start encoding. The display will show “ONE”, tap the USB skip or
buttons to select one track or all tracks, the CDI operation display will show “ONE” or “ALL” accordingly.
4. Tap the “USB “ REC” button (11.) to confirm the encoding. The system will start playback automatically and the
& icons will be flashing. This indicates the CDI encoding has now started.
5. After the encoding procedure is finished, the CD I and Encoding will stop.
ENCODING CD TRACKS BY PROGRAM
1. Select the desired tracks by following the same procedure as for “CD/MP3 programming”.
2. Follow steps 3 & 4 above as for CD I encoding.
Notes:
- The recording speed is 1:1 and according to the actual playing time of the CD track.
- The system will create an “Audio“ folder and then store the encoded track in it.
- The recording format is pre-set at MP3 bit rate: 128 kbps, Sampling rate: 44.1kHz.
- Song titles will not be recorded during encoding.
- To interrupt the recording, tap the “USB REC“ button (11.) again during recording.
13
5. Just in case it is necessary to remove the whole Stylus/pick-up assembly, use small pliers to carefully disconnect
the wires, then change to another stylus cartridge and connect the wires to the new stylus again with the pliers.
(Do not pull the pick-up wires directly as this may cause damage to the wires).
6. Refit as in the Diagrams above / .
NOTES: Always handle the stylus with care as the Sapphire needle tip is easily damaged.
When transporting the turntable it is advisable to refit the protective needle cover until the unit is going to be used
again. When removing or re-fitting the stylus, always be careful not to put too much pressure on the stylus holder and
the tone arm cartridge, to avoid causing any possible damage to them.
CASSETTE CARE
Two common causes of trouble experienced when using cassettes are:
1. Tape jamming, leading to uneven speed during playback.
2. Tape entangling, when the tape wraps itself around vital parts of the mechanism.
To avoid these problems occurring, take the following precautions:
a) Check that there are no loose layers of tape visible through the cassette centre window
(see fig. 1).
b) Take up any loose layers (using a pencil or ballpoint pen with hexagonal barrell) before
inserting the cassette (see fig. 2) into the mechanism.
Notes: If the cassette feels tight whilst performing this operation (see fig. 2), the tape may be
jamming due to ridges formed in the winding of the tape (visible through the centre window).
In most cases, these may be removed by fast rewinding of the cassette from one end to the
other, turning it over and repeating this action again.
Do not expose cassettes to direct sunlight, dust or oil, and do not touch the tape surfaces.
LISTENING TO CASSETTE TAPE
General operation
Stop / eject key press to stop all deck operation. Press again to open the cassette door.
Fast forward key & press to start rapid tape winding in either forward or revers
Fast rewind key direction. Press stop / fast rewind key eject keys when the cassette spools stop turning.
Play key press to start playing tape.
Pause key press to stop tape operation temporarily. Press again to resume play.
Record key press together with play key to start tape recording.
(deck 1 only)
Notes:
- Make sure the direction is correct when inserting a tape into the cassette slot. Some searching noise will be heard,
this is quite normal.
- It is strongly recommended the cassette tape is removed from the Cassette Player slot after each use - don’t leave
the cassette tape inside the system when you do not intend to play it.
COMPACT DISC CARE
To remove a disc from its storage case, tap down on the centre of the case and lift the disc out, holding it carefully by the
edges. Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the disc’s recorded surface with a soft cloth. Unlike
conventional Vinyl or Shellac records, compact discs have no grooves to collect dust and microscopic debris, so a gentle
wipe with a soft, lint-free dry and clean cloth should remove most particles. Wipe in a straight line from the inside to the
outside of the disc. Never use detergents or abrasive cleaners to clean the disc. If necessary, use a CD cleaning kit.
Small dust particles and light stains will have absolutely no effect on sound reproduction quality. Never fix labels to the
surface of compact discs or write on them, except very gently with a specialist CD-R Pen.

B) RECORDING SETTINGS
i) RECORDING LEVEL
The recording level can be adjusted with the REC LEVEL -/REC LEVEL + buttons (59/60) to avoid distortion if the record
source level is too high.
ii) TRACK SEPARATION DURING CD RECORDING
It is possible to separate the music tracks that are being recorded track-after-track during recording by using either the
Auto (a) or Manual (b) mode:
a) Auto mode
Tap the “ AUTO/MANUALbutton (26.) when getting ready to use the recording function, the LCD display will show -20db, -
30db, -40db, and the “AUTO TRACK” icon will appear on the LCD display.
When the recording sound level has dropped below the -20 / -30 / -40dB (recording signal) respectively, the track that is
currently being recorded will end and at that moment a new track will be generated – after which recording the next track
will automatically continue.
Note: It is recommended to set a lower recording level for a music source with clear performance - such as a USB
device, and a higher recording level for a higher noise music source - such as a vinyl record (Phono):
“ – 20db or – 30db “ – for recording from USB or Aux-in with a digital music source.
“ – 30db or – 40db “ – for recording from Tape or Phono mode.
“ ------- “ – auto mode off.
The above is just a recommendation, the actual performance varies and is affected by the differences in music source. If
the cut-off is always misjudged for certain music files, it is recommended to use the Manual Mode (b) instead.
b) Manual mode
At anytime during recording (in any mode), straight after a track has finished playing, tap the “CD II Track Separation “
“ button (24.) on the front panel (or on the Remote Control) once - and the system will generate a new track and continue
recording it. The word “bUSY “ will briefly show on the LCD display, which indicates the unit is successfully creating a
new track. After the last track being recorded has finished playing, stop the music source playing and also stop the CD II
recording by TAPPING the “ ” Stop button (19.).
iii) FINALIZING A CD-R(W) DISC
You must convert the CD-R(W) disc into a standard Audio CD before you can play it back in any another Audio CD player,
including CD I.This process is known asFINALIZING” - a table of contents (TOC) will be written on the CD at the same
time. The procedure is as follows:
1. Select the CD II function mode, ensure the recorded CD-R(W) disc to be finalized is in the CD II tray.
2. Ensure the CD is not playing, and then tap the FINALIZE button (13.). “ Fin-d “ appears on the CD Recorder operation
display. (If you wish to quit the finalizing mode for any reason, tap the “CD II Stop ” button).
3. Tap the “CD II Play/Pause ” button (28.) to start finalizing and the CD Recorder operation display will show
“ bUSY“ during this process.
4. After finalizing has completed, the CD tray will open automatically and “OPEN“ will appear on the display.
Notes:
The time it takes to finalize a disc depends on the contents of the recorded disc –
this may take up to 15 minutes.
No buttons will be working during the finalizing process.
Never turn the power off or unplug the power cord during the finalizing process.
Once recorded on and after finalizing a disc you cannot record again on a “CD-R” disc or erase any tracks.
Although a finalized “CD-R” disc may play on other CD Players, remember that a finalized “CD-RW” disc is not
guaranteed to play on all other CD Players.
Due to differences in compatibility with the unit of CD-R or CD-RW discs, please change to another brand, or even
another one in the pack, if you find the performance of the recording is not satisfactory. This is not a product fault
