Only Nikon delivers the advantage of D-Lighting – a unique technology with the ability
to rescue underexposed images or shots taken with excessive backlight. Accessible
in Playback mode, this innovative feature automatically creates
a copy of the image, with light and detail
added wherever necessary and well-
exposed areas left exactly as they are. As a
result, images are signifi cantly improved in a
much more natural-looking manner.
With D-LightingWithout D-Lighting
Compared to other digital compacts, COOLPIX cameras offer more
refi ned red-eye reduction capability. First, a series of pre-fl ashes serve
to constrict the pupils of the eye. The camera then analyzes the
recorded image for the remaining presence of red eyes, automatically
correcting them in-camera during storage of the image.
So much more than a slideshow, Pictmotion lets users share the
fun of photography in a more creative, more entertaining way. Users
simply select a range of their favorite images and movies, pick a
visual style and choose from up to fi ve pre-installed soundtracks
or load up to fi ve new ones to suit the mood*. The camera then
produces a Pictmotion movie automatically, with pace and transitions
determined by music and style ready for viewing anytime, anywhere
on the camera’s large, bright LCD.
* Loading of additional soundtracks available via PictureProject for Windows only.
Pictmotion
Nikon is the fi rst to bring built-in Wi-Fi capability to the compact
camera, changing the face of photography with revolutionary new
fun and freedom. Enabling users to do away with the need for wires
and cables, this Nikon advance allows selected COOLPIX cameras
to achieve a wireless IEEE 802.11b/g connection, so pictures can be
sent straight through the air to a computer as soon as they’re taken,
or even directly to a PictBridge-compatible printer. And with the new
COOLPIX CONNECT service, users can take a picture, then send it
wirelessly for viewing on a computer anywhere in the world!
Note: Wireless printing requires optional Wireless Printer Adapter PD-10. COOLPIX CONNECT
sends an email containing a link, inviting recipients to view and download images.

Nikon COOLPIX cameras offer an array of VR technologies that
produce blur-free images when shooting in unsteady conditions.
Selected models offer shooting with Lens Shift VR, which feels like
shooting three shutter speeds faster! Using an in-built sensor to detect
and correct for camera movement, the system delivers sharp and
steady images, is effective for movie shooting, and even enables faster
framing on the LCD. Other models offer Image Sensor Shift VR, which
again uses a velocity sensor, but moves the image sensor to achieve
accurate camera shake compensation. There’s also Electronic VR that
applies movement data to image processing to turn blurred images
into beautifully clear results, anytime, as well as e-VR for movies that
adds stability to the capture of action.

Available only with Nikon COOLPIX cameras, the clever
Face-priority AF function helps ensure satisfyingly crisp
portraits no matter where the subject is in the shot.
Automatically detecting people’s faces in the frame,
Face-priority AF signals subject recognition through the
use of an on-screen icon, leaving the photographer free
to depress the shutter for sharp portraits with focus
exactly where it’s wanted.
Note: Face recognition capability may be limited in some shooting conditions.
In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
Nikon continues to add to its range of COOLPIX in-camera technologies – extending
shooting opportunity into ever more diverse situations and making it easier and more

left precisely as they are.
Face-priority AF
Take satisf yingly sharp portraits, no matter where the subject is in the
shot. Face-priority AF* automatically fi nds, then focuses on people’s
faces, enabling you to achieve crisp, clear results time after time.
* Face recognition capability may be limited in some shooting situations.
In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
Avoid the annoying red-eye effect sometimes caused byash.
In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically detects red eyes in the

8.1 megapixels, 3.5x zoom and a 2.5-inch LCD
Combining an exceptionally high pixel count with a 36-126mm
(35mm equivalent) Zoom-Nikkor lens, the COOLPIX P3 and P4 give
great compositional freedom complemented by sharp detail and
faithful color. And with an easy-to-view 2.5-inch LCD each, they
make for smoother shooting and more pleasurable playback.
Nikon wireless image transfer
Built-in Wi-Fi adds exciting freedom to the COOLPIX P3 – letting you
send images straight from the camera to your computer in an instant,
and enabling images to be sent to PictBridge-compatible printers.
Note: Wi-Fi functions require installation of provided wireless software in a compatible
computer. Wireless printing requires optional Wireless Printer Adapter PD-10.
VR delivers rock-steady results
Stabilizing VR (Vibration Reduction) assurance overcomes camera
shake for clearer results. Choose VR Normal mode to compensate
for small hand movements, make use of slower shutter speeds,
produce better pictures when panning and overcome blur in low
light. Or opt for VR Active mode for more unsteady conditions,
which produces satisfying sharp images even when taken from a
moving vehicle.
Aperture-priority Auto mode
The COOLPIX P3 and P4 let you take
greater control over depth of focus, with
Aperture-priority mode. Choose a larger
aperture for attractive background blur or
extend sharpness into the distance with a smaller aperture, while
the camera selects the best shutter speed for optimal exposure.
Unique Nikon image innovations
A choice of three in-camera innovations can achieve better images
at the time of shooting and improve the results after the fact.

Effective Megapixels
The effective megapixel count is the number of pixels that actually makes
up the image captured by a digital camera. Images recorded with more
effective megapixels will therefore contain a larger amount of image
information, resulting in higher-level sharpness. See Total Megapixels.
Total Megapixels
Not all pixels record a part of the image. Some are purposely masked off
to receive no light, producing a baseline value from which to calibrate light
received by the effective pixels. The number of masked-off pixels plus
the number of effective pixels equals the number of total megapixels. See
Effective Megapixels.
Nikkor Lenses
Highly respected by leading professional photographers, Nikkor lenses are
renowned for their outstanding autofocus performance, true-to-life color,
high contrast and exceptional sharpness.
Nikkor ED Glass
Lenses made of Super ED glass achieve sharper, clearer images. They
are also more resilient than conventional lenses and offer more consistent
optical performance.
Vibration Reduction (VR)
Refer to page 4.
Electronic Vibration Reduction (Electronic VR)
Electronic VR detects and compensates for minor camera movement
in-camera, adding greater stability during movie recording.
High-quality Zoom
COOLPIX cameras offer ample zooming capability, with performance
extending to 10x zoom with the COOLPIX S4. As a result, they make it easy
to zoom in for tight portraits, for example, or zoom right out to capture
expansive landscapes.
Internal Memory
Internal memory gives you the freedom to shoot images at any time,
even when you’re not carrying any memory media. It also makes it easy
to transfer images between memory media as you please.
Direct Printing (PictBridge)
PictBridge direct print capability lets you conveniently connect your
camera direct to a compatible printer — doing away with the need for a
computer.
Pictmotion by muvee
Refer to page 5.
Stop-motion movie
Making it easy to create animated fi lms in-camera, Stop-motion movie
allows users to shoot models, move them, then shoot them again. The
camera then processes the images to deliver professional-looking results.
35mm 70mm 105mm
Movie with Sound
The ability to record movies with sound lets you capture so much more
of the moment, letting you record voices along with faces, or background
noise to accompany scenery.
Time-lapse Movie
Time-lapse Movie mode creates movies out of images taken using the
Time-lapse feature, which enables users to specify the interval between
shots. Ideal for capturing action taking place over longer durations, it
can be used to produce movies of fl owers blooming, or clouds rushing
across the sky, for example.
TV/Small Size Movie
TV movie mode records VGA-size images (640 x 480 pixels) that fi t
perfectly on a TV screen. Small movie produces QVGA-size movies (320
x 240 pixels).
Best Shot Selector (BSS)
Best Shot Selector automatically selects the shot with the sharpest
focus from a series of consecutive images.
Anti-Shake mode
Automatically activating e-VR and BSS, while also setting the optimal
ISO, Anti-Shake mode can overcome camera shake and produce
sharper shots in lower light.
High-Sensitivity mode
Making the most of high light sensitivity on
selected cameras, High-Sensitivity mode
chooses the optimal ISO setting for the
shooting of fast-moving subjects or clearer
results in lower light.
