Procedures to Upgrade from R1.1.5 to R1.2.8
Dated: December 2, 2002
The upgrade procedures apply to the installation CDs for the Advanced Converged Management offer. The upgrade
procedures are the same as the installation procedures.

Pre-Installation Tasks
Before you upgrade the products, you must first complete the pre-installation tasks below:
1. Collect the system administrator login IDs and passwords for the Linux and Windows servers.
You will need these to install the VisAbility Management Suite.
2. Update the appropriate VMS00x Administration Request forms if any information changes. Fax the updated forms to
the Technical Service Center (TSC) at the number on the form.
You will need to re-enter the IP address, server domain names, and port addresses during the upgrade process. Refer
to the appropriate forms to get the requested information:
VMS001 for Avaya MultiVantage Fault and Performance Manager and Avaya MultiVantage Proxy Agent
VMS002 for Avaya MultiVantage Configuration Manager
VMS003 for Avaya Directory Enabled Management
Post Installation Tasks
For post installation and configuration tasks, refer to the product user documentation and online help that is available for each
product.
Upgrading the Linux Server
First, complete the upgrade procedure below. Second, download the Advanced Linux server patch from the Avaya Support
site (support.avaya.com). Refer to step 14 below.
Security Alert
During the upgrade process, the install wizard turns off the internal firewall around the Linux server. Without the firewall,
internal users can telnet to the Linux server and use their web browser to access the Windows client shortcuts. Do not turn
on the internal Linux firewall after the upgrade. Your network firewall provides the needed security to prohibit access to the

Linux server from outsiders.
Complete the procedure below to upgrade the VisAbility products and components on the Linux server.
1. As all user to log off the system.
2. Log in as "root" on the Linux server.
3. Insert the CD listed below in to the CD drive:

Result: The systems opens a CD browser window.
4. Close the CD browser window.
5. Open a terminal emulation window: On the Red Hat toolbar, click the Terminal Emulation icon.
6. Change the directory: type cd /mnt/cdrom and press Enter.
7. Start the installation wizard: type ./vms_setup.bin and press Enter.
8. At the Welcome screen, read the text and click Next to continue.
9. At the Setup screen, select one of the options below:
- Custom Option (default). This options allows to you select individual products to upgrade.
- All Option. This option upgrades all VisAbility products and components.
Result: The system displays the license agreements; upgrades the selected products and components; and displays
progress messages during the upgrade. When the upgrade is complete, the system displays the last screen with the
prompt to reboot the computer.
10. At the last screen, click Finish to exit the wizard.
Result: The system displays the command prompt in the terminal emulation window.
11. Remove the CD from the drive: type eject and press Enter. Remove the CD from the drive.
12. Reboot the computer: type reboot and press Enter.
13. Optional. If you changed any of the IP addresses for Avaya MultiVantage Fault and Performance Manager or
MultiVantage Proxy Agent, then you must execute the "mfpmconfig" and "mpaconfig" post install scripts to
reconfigure the products on the Linux server. Refer to the Installation and Configuration guide for each product for
detailed procedures.
14. Required. Go to the Avaya Support site and download the Advanced Linux server patch:
- From the Avaya Support site, click the Software & Firmware Downloads link.
- Scroll down to VisAbility Management Suite and click on:

Upgrading the Windows Server
You can use the Windows Server Installation CD to upgrade VisAbility products and components installed on multiple
Windows servers. During the upgrade process, you can select the products to install on a specific server.
Complete the procedure below to upgrade the products on the Windows server.
1. Ask all users to log off the system.
2. Close all open windows and applications.
3. Insert the CD listed below in to the CD drive:

4. At the CD menu screen, click Install Windows Server Products.
5. At the Welcome screen, read the text and click Next.
6. At the Products Install screen, select the products and components to upgrade on this Windows server.
Click Next.
7. At the Summary screen, review your selections and click Next to continue. If you want to change your selections,
then click Back to return to the Selection screen.
Result: The system displays a warning message that cautions you not to reboot your computer during the installation
process. Wait until you exit the wizard before you reboot your computer.
8. In the message window, click OK to start the install wizard.
Result: The wizard displays the license agreements; installs the selected products and components; and then displays
the message that the installation was successfully completed; and prompts you to reboot the computer. Finally, the
system redisplays the CD menu.
9. On the CD menu, click Exit.
10. Remove the CD from the drive.
11. Reboot the computer: Click Start > Shut Down > Shut Down.
Upgrading the Windows Client
You can use the Windows Client Installation CD to upgrade VisAbility products and components installed on multiple
Windows client PCs. During the upgrade process, you can select the products to install on a specific PC.
Complete the procedure below to upgrade the VisAbility products and components on the Windows client.
1. Ask all users to log off the system.
2. Close all open windows and applications.
3. Insert the CD listed below in to the CD drive:

Result: The system opens a browser window and displays a splash screen for a few seconds. Then the system
displays the CD menu screen.
Note: Do not close the browser window.
4. At the CD menu screen, click Install Windows Client VisAbility Products.
5. At the Welcome screen, read the text and click Next.
6. At the Products Install screen, select the products and components to upgrade on this Windows server.
Click Next.
7. At the Summary screen, review your selections and click Next to continue. If you want to change your selections,
then click Back to return to the Selection screen.

Installing the Solaris Server
The Solaris Server Installation CD is new in release 1.2. The procedures to install or upgrade the files on the Solaris server
are the same.
The Solaris Server Installation CD contains on the files listed below:

Network Management System Integration (NMSI) -- includes the Avaya MultiVantage Fault and Performance
Manager files to integrate with HP OpenView.
n Avaya MultiService Network Manager Upgrade --
with HP OpenView.
Solaris Pre-Installation Tasks
Before you install or upgrade the files on the Solaris server, you must first complete the pre-installation tasks below:
1. You must install the products below on the Solaris server before installing the files from the Solaris Server
Installation CD:
- HP OpenView. This product is not included on the CD and is not supported by Avaya.
- Avaya MultiService Network Manager. This product is
not
required if you do not plan to use it. You can install

the product from the Advanced Converged Management, Windows Server Installation CD 1.2.8 or from the separate
CD set.
2. You will need the information below during the installation:
- IP address or the fully DNS name of the System Management server where the Avaya MultiVantage Fault and
Performance Manager resides.
- TCP port number on the server where the Avaya MultiVantage Fault and Performance Manager resides.
- IP address or the fully DNS name of the System Management server where the Avaya MultiVantage
Configuration Manager resides.
Installing the Solaris Server
The procedure is the same to install or upgrade the Solaris server. For upgrades, you will have select the products to install
and re-enter the server IP addresses and the TCP port number.
1. Log in as "root" on the Solaris server.
2. Insert the CD listed below into the drive:

Solaris Server Installation 1.2.8
Result: Solaris automatically mounts the CD.
3. Change the directory: type cd /cdrom/cdrom0 and press Enter.
4. Start the install wizard: type ./InstallNMSI and press Enter.
Result: The system starts the wizard. Be patient and wait until the system displays the Installer window.
5. At the Welcome screen, click Next to continue.
6. At the next screen, select the products to install:
- Network Management System Integration
- Avaya MultiService Network Manager Upgrade
Click Next to continue.
7. At the confirmation screen, click Next to continue.
8. At the next screen, enter the location information below:
- IP address or fully DNS name of the System Management server running the Avaya MultiVantage Fault and
Performance Manager.
- TCP port number to communicate with the NMSI server port on the System Management server.
- IP address or fully DNS name of the of the System Management server running Avaya MultiVantage
Configuration Manager.
Click Next to continue.
9. At the confirmation screen that shows the directory path and size of the file, click Next to continue.
Result: The system completes the installation and displays the last screen.

10. At the last screen that shows the successful completion, click Finish to exit the install wizard.
Result: The system exits the wizard and displays the command prompt.
11. Change the directory: type cd and press Enter.
12. Unmount the CD: type eject and press Enter.
Result: The system opens the drive door.
13. Remove the CD and close the drive door.
