Environmental hints

Packing

Do not throw the packing into the garbage: first sort out the dif-

ferent materials (i.e.: steel, cardboard, polystyrene) following lo-

cal regulations.

Conformity declaration

This appliance incorporates parts intended to come into contact

with foodstuffs in compliance with EEC Directive 89/109/CEE.

Information

This appliance is free of CFC’s (refrigerant circuit contains R134a)

or free of HFC’s (refrigerant circuit contains R600a - Isobutane).

For appliances with Isobutane (R600a)

The refrigerant Isobutane is a natural gas of high environmen-

tal compatibility but which si inflammable. Therefore, it is es-

sential to ensure that the ducts of the refrigerant circuit do not

get damaged.

Know your appliance

The appliance you have just bought, which is marked by the

symbol, allows perfect freezing of fresh and cooked

foods, the production of ice cubes and the storage of com-

mercially pre-packed frozen foods. The appliances fitted with

super insulation have been designed to grant high performan-

ces with a reduced energy consumption.

Please read these instructions carefully, you will find the de-

scription of your appliance and the useful hints to obtain the

best performance to store foods.

Description of the appliance

(Fig. 1)

A. Control panel with:

1. Fast freeze switch

2. Temperature selector knob (thermostat). It can be adjusted

by means of a coin

3. Yellow fast freeze pilot lamp: it lights up and switches off

pressing switch 1

4. Luminous external thermometer: it allows you to check the

temperature of the foods stored.

In normal ambient conditions, the first three green pilot lamps

at the left are alight. These lamps correspond to a temperature

of -18°C. When you open the door for a long time, the third

and the second green lights may switch off. This can also hap-

pen when you introduce fresh foods to be frozen into the ap-

pliance.

This does not mean that the frozen foods are in danger, it is sim-

ply due to the heat of the fresh foods which are being frozen.

5. Red alarm pilot lamp indicating critical temperatures inside

the freezer. It flashes when:

- the freezer is first connected to the electricity supply

- the freezer is loaded with fresh foods

- the temperature inside the appliance is too warm

- the freezer door is left open for a long time

It goes off when:

- the internal temperature is correct.

Appliances without external luminous thermometer

6. Temperature selector knob (thermostat). It can be adjusted

by means of a coin

7. Red alarm pilot lamp indicating critical temperatures inside

the freezer. It lights up when:

- the appliance is first connected to the electricity supply

- the freezer is loaded with fresh food

- the temperature inside the appliance is too warm

- the freezer door is left open for a long time

It goes off when:

- the internal temperature is correct.

It lights up when the appliance is connected to the mains, if

the thermostat control knob is not set to position “●“.

D. Some models are provided with cold packs (eutectics): re-

move them from the lower compartment and position them

one near the other on the first top grid.

Installation

Ensure that the appliance is not damaged.

Transit damages must be reported to your dealer within 24 h

of receipt of the appliance.

The appliance should not be installed close to heat sources,

central heating, cookers, boilers, sunlight, etc. It must howe-

ver be located in a well ventilated dry space. If the appliance is

installed under a kitchen furniture, leave a 50 mm air gap

(Fig. 2). Ensure that the appliance is level; adjust, if required,

the front feet (Fig. 3).

To ensure the free air circulation, the ventilation grid situated

above the appliance must not be obstructed (Fig. 4).

Clean the interior with a sponge dampened in a solution of

warm water and vinegar.

Position the cold packs on the first top grid.

Electrical connection and operation

Check that the voltage on the rating plate (Fig. 5) corresponds

to the voltage in your home (Fig. 6). The earthing of this ap-

pliance is compulsory by law.

The manufacturer will accept no liability for injury to persons

or damage to objects arising from the non-observance of this

requirement.

If the plug and the wall socket do not comply, have the socket

replaced by a qualified electrician. He should also check that

the section of the socket wires can withstand the power ab-

sorbed by the appliance.

The use of adapters, multiple sockets and extension cords is

not advisable.

If absolutely necessary, use simple or multiple adapters and ex-

tension cords in compliance with local safety regulations,

paying attention not to exceed the maximum amperage, which

is marked on the simple adaptors and on extension cords and

that of the total power marked on the multiple adapters.

Fuse replacement

If the mains lead of this appliance is fitted with a BS 1363A 13

amp fused plug, to change a fuse in this type of plug use an

A.S.T.A. approved fuse to BS 1362 type and proceed as fol-

lows:





1. Remove the fuse cover (A) and fuse (B)

2. Fit replacement 13A fuse into fuse cover

3. Refit both into plug.

IMPORTANT: The fuse cover must be refitted when chang-

ing a fuse and if the fuse cover is lost the plug must not be

used until a correct replacement is fitted. Correct replace-

ments are identified by the colour insert or the colour embos-

sed in words on the base of the plug.

Replacement fuse covers are available from your local electrical

store.

Connection to a rewireable plug

If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlet, then it

should be cut off and disposed of in order to avoid a possible

shock hazard should it be inserted into a 13A socket else-whe-

re. A suitable alternative plug should then be fitted to the cable.

The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with

the following code:

BLUE "NEUTRAL" ("N")

BROWN "LIVE" ("L")

GREEN AND YELLOW "EARTH" ("E)

1. The GREEN AND YELLOW wire must be connected to the ter-

minal in the plug which is marked with the letter "E" or by the

Earth symbol or coloured green or green and yellow.

2. The BLUE wire must be connected to the terminal which is

marked with the letter "N" or coloured black.

3. The BROWN wire must be connected to the terminal which

is marked with the letter "L" or coloured red.

For the Republic of Ireland only

The information given in respect of Great Britain will frequently

apply, but a third type of plug and socket is also used, the 2-

pin, side earth type. In this case, the wire which is coloured

GREEN AND YELLOW must be connected to the EARTH con-

tact, and the other two wires to the pins, irrespective of co-

lour. The supply to the socket must be fitted with a 16 amp

fuse.

Connect the appliance to the mains and adjust the thermostat

control knob  or  (Fig. 1) as indicated in chapter "Tempe-

rature Adjustment". If your appliance is provided with the ex-

terior thermometer , the normal operation is indicated by

the switching on of one or more green pilot lamps; depen-

dent on the tempeature inside the freezer.

When the appliance is first connected to the mains, the red

light  only will flash. It will switch off when the green pilot

lamps of the thermometer light up, indicating that the ap-

pliance is ready to be loaded with foods to be stored.

If your appliance is not provided with an exterior thermome-

ter, the normal operation is indicated by the green light .

When the freezer is first connected to the mains, the green pi-

lot lamp  and the red pilot lamp  will be illuminated.

When the red pilot lamp switches off, the appliance can be

loaded with foods to be stored.

Temperature adjustment

The thermostat (see figure) controls the internal temperature.

Position “●“ means that the operation is interrupted. The ideal

temperature for the long term storage of frozen foods is -18°C.

In normal ambient conditions (ambient temperature included

between +20°C and +25°C), we suggest you adjust the ther-

mostat control knob to position 2. If you require a warmer or

colder temperature than -18°C, turn the thermostat control

knob towards the higher positions or towards position “●“.

Note: Please remind that internal temperatures are affected

by the location of the appliance, the temperature of the sur-

rounding air, the frequency of door opening. The setting of

the thermostat control knob may have to be varied to allow

for these factors.

Experience will help you in finding the position best suited to

your requirements.

Use of the freezer (Fig .7)

Freezing-in

The maximum quantity, in Kg, of foods which can be frozen in

24 hours, at an ambient temperature of 25°C, is stated on the

rating plate (Fig. 5).

If you need to freeze the maximum quantity suggested, we re-

commend you switch on the fast freeze facility  or  (yel-

low pilot lamp  or  alight), 24 prior to introducing foods

to be frozen and to let on for the next 24 hours. The freezing

compartment is situated at the top of the appliance.

At completion of freezing, disconnect the fast freeze switch

(yellow pilot lamp off).

The freezing times are reduced for smaller loads.

If you need to freeze very small quantities of food, it is not ne-

cessary to switch on the fast freeze facility.

Do not store warm foods in the freezer; do not re-freeze par-

tially or totally thawed foods.

Wrap foods in aluminium or polythene sheets or place them in

appropriate containers. Label each pack indicating the con-

tents and the freezing date.

The freezer can maintain the correct storage temperature for

16-18 hours even after a power failure.

Some appliances are provided with cold packs (eutectics) which

have to be positioned on the top grid.

They can increase the storage time in case of power failure to

25-28 hours. However, during this time, we suggest you

do not open the freezer door.

Note: Due to the efficacity of the door seal, it is not always

possible to open the freezer door immediately after closing it.

Wait some minutes before trying to open it.

Production of ice cubes

Fill the trays 3/4 of their depth and place them in the top com-

partment. If the trays stick to the bottom, do not try to detach

them with sharp or cutting instruments. Use the handle of a

spoon.

Attention: Do not store sealed containers or carbonated

drinks into the freezer as they may explode. Only use plastic

containers. Some products, such as ice lollies, should not be

consumed straight from the freezer. They could cause "cold"

burns.

Storage of frozen foods

The maximum available volume for the storage of frozen

foods is obtained by removing all baskets, except the bottom

basket and the relevant separator.

The load line on the side liner, indicates the max. load limit.

For appliances provided with flaps, the load line is delimitated

by them.

When buying frozen foods, please ensure that the package or

wrapper is intact, otherwise the food may deteriorate. If a

package bulges or sags or has spots of moisture on ti, it may

not have been kept cold enough and the contents may have

lost their original quality.

When buying frozen foods, it is suggested to use thermal bags

or cold boxes. They should be the last purchases made and

should be well wrapped in newspaper.

When home, store them in the freezer with the least possible

delay.

Any appreciable rise in temperature of commercially pre-

packaged frozen foods after purchase may shorten their stora-

ge life indicated on the package.

Store commercially frozen food for the time indicated by the

manufacturer.

Thawing

Here are some basic suggestions:

Raw vegetables: do not thaw - put straight into boiling water

and cook as usual.

Meat (large cuts): thaw in the refrigerator without unwrap-

ping them. Before cooking, leave at room temperature for so-

me hours.

(small cuts): thaw at room temperature or cook directly.

Fish: thaw in the refrigerator without unwrapping or cook di-

rectly before being completely thawed.

Previously cooked food: re-heat in the oven without remov-

ing from its aluminium container.

Fruit: thaw in the refrigerator.

Calendars

If your appliance is fitted with an exterior calendar holder

(Fig. 8), stick the self-adhesive numbers on the indicators deli-

vered in the accessory bag and on the calendar labels.

Fit the indicators on the baskets front. It will then be possible

to mark on the labels the list of the food contained in the

drawer with the purchasing or freezing-in date.

If your appliance is fitted with interior label-holder, fix them on

the freezer baskets (Fig. 9). You can write on the labels sup-

plied the list of the food contained in the drawer with the pur-

chasing or freezing-in date.

Defrosting

The quantity of frost which builds-up on the freezer walls de-

pends on the frequency of door opening.

Generally you will need to defrost two or three times a year

when the layer of frost is about 3/16" - 3 mm thick.

Defrost, preferably, when the food stored is minimum.

Periodically scrape the ice off, avoid using a sharp or cutting

instrument.

To avoid the food thawing out during defrosting, switch on

the fast freeze facility 24 hours before starting to defrost.

Then proceed as follows:

- Disconnect the freezer from the mains supply (Fig. 10).

- Remove the food, wrap them in several layers of newspaper

and place them into the refrigerator. Alternatively, put them in

a cardboard box in a cool place.

- Take out the drain situated at the bottom front part of the

appliance, and place a tray to collect the defrost water under

it (Fig. 11).

- Remove the baskets and leave the door open.

- Do not try to remove the ice with sharp instruments,

electric heaters or similar devices. Any damage caused in

this way is not covered by the guarantee.

- Clean the inside of the freezer with a solution of bicarbonate of

soda in warm water (never use abrasives, detergents or soaps).

- Rinse and dry carefully.

- Clean the outside of the freezer with a soft damp cloth.

- Replace the baskets.

- Reconnect the appliance to the mains and switch on the fast

freeze facility.

If your appliance is fitted with exterior thermometer, the yel-

low pilot lamp switches on and the red pilot lamp flashes.

When the red pilot lamp goes off and the first three green

lamps light up, reload the food in the freezer. If your applian-

ce is not fitted with exterior thermometer, the red, green and

yellow lamps switch on. When the red lamp goes off, reload

the food in the freezer.

- After 24 hours, switch off the fast freeze facility.

Attention: Any temperature rise of frozen foods during de-

frosting, may shorten their storage life.

Maintenance and cleaning

A periodic and proper maintenance will ensure a longer life to

your appliance. When carrying out cleaning operations or

maintenance, always disconnect the appliance from the

mains supply. Periodically clean the inside of the compart-

ment with a solution of warm water and vinegar. Rinse and

dry carefully. Never use detergents or abrasives.

Periodically clean the door gasket with water and rinse care-

fully. Avoid soiling the door gasket with oil or grease.

Clean the outside of the appliance with a sponge dampened

in lukewarm water. Dry with a soft cloth.

Periodically clean the condenser (Fig. 12) with a vacuum-clea-

ner. After the cleaning or maintenance operation, reconnect

the appliance to the mains.

Hints for holidays

If you plan to be away for a long time: disconnect the applian-

ce from the mains supply, empty and clean the inside. Leave

the door open to prevent the appliance from smelling musty.

If you plan to be away for a short time: let the appliance ope-

rate normally.

To disconnect the appliance temporarily, turn the thermostat

control knob to position “●“.

Energy saving hints

You can save energy to operate your appliance.

- Check the door gaskets.

- Ensure that the appliance is level to facilitate door closing.

- Periodically clean the grids of the freezer compartment of your

appliance. Do not use sharp or cutting instruments. Defrost it

when the frost reaches a 3 mm thickness.

- Periodically clean the condenser.

- Open the door only when necessary. Close it immediately after

removing foods.

- Do not set the thermostat control knob to extremely cold posi-

tions: you waste energy.

- Make sure that the freezer is not installed near a heat source

such as cookers, radiators, water heater or to direct sunlight.

Service

The incorrect operation of the appliance is not always due to a

fault, but it may also result from poor installation or usage.

To prevent unnecessary service calls for which you will be

charged, we suggest you consult this trouble-shooting guide.

1) If the red light is on continuously or flashing, tempe-

rature is too high. Check that:

- the door is properly closed

- the thermostat control knob is on the correct setting (see

chapter "Adjusting the temperature")

- the freezer is not near a heat source

- the air circulated freely through the ventilation openings

- there is not a large build-up of frost on the inner walls

- the condenser (black grill) at the rear is clean (Fig. 12)

- the ambient temperature is excessively low (lower than

+15°C). In this case, set the thermostat control knob to a hi-

gher setting.

2) If the compressor functions continuously. Check that:

- the fast freeze switch is turned off

- the ambient temperature is too warm

- the door is not being opened too frequently.

3) The appliance is excessively noisy. Check that:

- the freezer is level

- the freezer is touching other furniture or walls, which can

cause vibration.

4) The appliance does not operate at all. The control li-

ghts are off. Check that:

- the thermostat control knob is not set to position “●“

- there is not a power failure

- the plug is making good contact with the supply socket

- any automatic circuit breakers have tripped or any fuses blown

- the supply cable is intact (see also Note).

Note: When replacing a damaged supply cord, be sure the

new cord is correctly clamped. If you have followed the above

checks and your appliance still does not work properly, get in

touch with the Service Division.

Addresses and telephone numbers can be found on the

Service Registration Card.

State clearly what is wrong and the type and serial number of

your appliance. These data are on the rating plate (Fig. 5).

1) Open the door and remove the lower hinge. Remove the

door.

2) Remove the upper bush and mount it in the seat provided

at the left.

3) Remove the door stop and mount it at the right.

4) Mount the door (turn it by 180°).

5) Remount the lower hinge.

6-7) Plug the holes which remain unused with the clips (from

the accessory bag).

Reversibility of the low temperature

compartment

(Fig .B)

1) Remove the left door block (2 screws).

2) Remove the hinges at the right hand side (4 screws) and re-

move the door.

3) Remount the hinges at the left hand side, remounting the door.

4) Remount the door block at the right hand side.

5) Plug the holes which remain unused with the 2 clips (from

the accessory bag).
