Lava Computer DATATAP-IP is a device that provides serial port splitting and routing. It can be used to enable a POS station to both print to a serial printer and to send transaction information to a DVR (which can then overlay that information onto a video stream).

Easy set-up: Configure the LAVA DataTap-IP using a web
browser. Then connect the POS terminal and printer to the LAVA
DataTap-IP and connect the LAVA unit to your network, and
you're done.

Connect a POS station to a DVR for text overlay
onto surveillance video. The LAVA DataTap-IP taps into
the receipt printer's data stream, making POS transaction
data a security tool.
