Introduction:
AccurisNextPettePipettesaredesignedforlaboratoryresearchuse,andspecificallyforthe
measurementandtransferofaqueoussolutions.TheNextPettepipettesoffervariablevolume
setting,andareavailableindifferentrangestocovervolumemeasurementsfrom0.1ulto
10ml.
NextPettepipettorsutilizetheprincipleofairdisplacement.Avacuumis
createdbythe
plungermovement,andaprecisevolumeofsampleliquidisdrawnintotheattachedpipette
tip.Disposablepipettipsmustalwaysbeusedforliquidaspiration,andtheshaftsofthe
NextPettepipettesaredesignedtoacceptawiderangeofdifferentbrandsandstylesof
disposable
pipettetips.
Properoperationandproperuseofdisposabletipswillpreventliquidsamplesfromentering
thepipetteandcontaminatingtheinternalparts.
EachvariablevolumeNextPetteincorporatesa4digitcounterdisplaytoshowthesetvolume.
Thevolumesettingcanbechangedusingthevolumeadjustmentdialbelowthepushbutton.A
volumeadjustmentlockislocatedjustbelowthetipejectorbutton,andthisallowstheuserto
securelylocktheadjustmentdialattheappropriatelysetvolume.

optimalpipettingaccuracyandprecision.
NOTE:For5mland10mlpipettes(P77005MandP770010M)alwaysensurethattheincluded
filterisproperlyinstalledontothepipetteshaftpriortotipattachment.Failuretodosocan
resultinharmtotheinternalcomponentsofthepipette.

1. Volumesetting:
Ensurethatthevolumeadjustmentlockisintheunlockedposition
(pushedup).Turnthevolumeadjustmentdialandmonitorthe
volumedisplaytoselectthepipettingvolume.Whenthevolume
isselected,pushthevolumelocktothelockedposition.
2. Aspiratetheliquidsample:
Pushtheplungerbuttondownwiththethumbtothefirststop.
Holdingthepipettevertically,immersethepipettipintotheliquidsample2mmto3mm.
Slowlyreleasepressureontheplungerbuttonsothattheliquidsampleisdrawnintothe
pipettip.NOTE:Itisveryimportantthatthesampleliquidisaspiratedslowly.Leavethe
tipimmersedinthesamplefor1to2secondsthenremoveitfromthesample.
NOTE:Alwayskeepthepipetteinanuprightverticalpositionwhenthereisliquidinthe
pipettetip.Layingthepipettehorizontallymaycauseliquidtoflowfromthetipinto the
pipetteshaft,causingcontamination.
3. Dispensing
Placethepipettipsoitistouchingthewallofthecontainerortubeintowhichthesample
willbedispensed.Thepipetteshouldbeheldata30to40degreeanglerelativetothewall
ofthecontainer.
Presstheplungerbuttonslowlytothefirststoptodispensethesample.Increasepressure
ontheplungerbuttontopassthefirststopandreachthesecondstop(thisistheblowout
stepwhichhelpstodispensethefullamountofsamplefromthetip).
Duringtheblowoutstep,slowlymovethepipettipagainstthe wallofthevessel.Thiswill
helptoremoveanyremainingliquidfromthepipettip.
Removethepipettetipsawayfromthevesselwallandallowtheplungertoreturntothe
startingposition.
4. Ejectingthetip
Holdthepipetteoverasuitablewastecontainerandpressthetipejectorbuttontoremove
thetip.

Accuratepipettingrequiresskillsthatimprovewithpractice.Itisalsonecessarytofollow
recommendedbestpracticesandunderstandproperpipettingtechnique.Thefollowingare
recommendationsonhowtogetthebestperformancefromyourNextPettepipette:
Alwaysoperatetheplungerbuttonslowlyandsmoothlywhenaspiratinganddispensing
samples.
Theendofthepipettetipsshouldbeimmersed2to3mmbelowthesurfaceofthe
sampletobeaspirated,andthisdepthorimmersionshouldbekeptconstantduringthe
aspiration.
Alwayskeepthepipetteinaverticalpositionduringthepipettingprocess.
Useanewpipettetipwheneverswitchingfromonetypeofsampletoanother.
Carefullycheckthepipettetipsused.Anyinconsistenciesinmanufacturewillresultin
inaccurateandimpreciseresults.
Carefullycheckthepipettetipsforleftoversampleliquidstayinginsidethetipduring
thepipettingprocess.
Alwaysusetheprerinsingtechniqueonanewtipbeforeaspiratingthemeasured
volume.
Sampleliquidshouldnotenterthepipetteshaft.
Neverlaythepipettehorizontallywhenthereissampleliquidinapipettetip.
Donotaspirateliquidsabove70C.
Afterpipettingacidsoranyotheraggressiveliquids,itisrecommendedtodisassemble
thepipetteandrinsetheplunger,shaft,sealandotherinternalelementswithdistilled
water.
Cleaning:Externalsurfacesofthepipettecanbecleanedwithwaterorisopropylalcohol.
Sterilization:TheNextPetteisfullyautoclavableat121°Cfor20minutes.Afterautoclaving,itis
importanttoletthepipettecompletelycooltoroomtemperaturepriortouse.
Important:Alwayschecktheautoclavetoconfirmthemaximumtemperaturesettingof121°C
priortoautoclavingtheNextPette.Temperatureshigherthan121°Corasterilizationprocess
longerthan20minutesmaydamagetheNextPette.

isrecommended.For1.0ulandless,a6digitbalanceisrecommended.
1. Setthemaximumvolumeonthepipette.
2. Conditionthepipettebeforetesting.Attachanappropriatepipettetip,aspirateand
dispensethetestliquid(distilledwater,at20°C,isrecommended)5times.Discardthe
pipettetip.
3. Performagravimetrictest:
a. Attachanewpipettetip.Note:thepipettetipsshouldbeofhighquality,and
shouldbethesametipsthat
willbeusedonaregularbasiswiththepipette.
b. Prerinsethetipsafewtimesbyaspiratinganddispensingthetestliquid.This
willcoattheinnersurfaceofthetipwithliquidandenableanaccuratetest.
c. Weighthemeasuredvolumeofliquid fromthepipette
byaspiratingtoa
weighingvesselonthebalance.
d. Calculatetheliquidvolumebyconvertingusingthecorrectionfactorconsidering
thetemperatureofthewater.
e. Atleast10aspirationsandweighingsin3volumeranges:100%,50%,10%of
nominalvolume,arerecommendedinordertocalculatethe
accuracyand
precisionresults

TheNextPetteisfactorycalibratedforusewithaqueoussolutions.Ifthepipetteoperationis
inaccuratewhenpipettingaqueoussolutions,oritisdesiredtopipetteliquidsofadensityor
viscositydifferentthanwater,orspecialtypesofpipettetipsaretobeused,itmaybe
necessarytoadjust
thecalibration.
1. Settheadjustmentdialofthepipettortoavolumefortesting(ie.Thenominalvolume
ofthepipette).
2. Pipetteameasuredvolumeofsampleliquidontoananalyticalbalance,andusingthe
gravimetricmethod(withtheappropriatecorrectionfactor),calculatetheactual
volumeofthepipettedsample.Iftheactualvolumediffersfromthevolumesetonthe
NextPettedisplay,itisnecessarytoadjustthecalibration.
3. Removetheclearwindowandlabelonthetopsurfaceofthefingerhook.
4. Pushtheredcalibrationlockawayfromtheadjustmentdialandsimultaneouslypull
upwardonthevolumesettingdialuntilitclicksintotheraisedposition.Releasethered
calibrationlock.
5. Turnthevolumeadjustmentdialtothevolumethathasbeencalculatedforthesample
thatwasmeasured(theactualvolume).
6. Pushthecalibrationlockagainawayfromtheadjustmentdial,simultaneouslypushthe
volumesettingdialdownuntilitlocksintoposition.Releasethecalibrationlock.
7. AdjustthevolumeoftheNextPettebacktothenominalvolume,andtestthecalibration
againusingthegravimetricmethod.Ifthevalueisstilloff,repeatthecalibration
procedure.
