.
11
. Slide the valance

12
. Check that the enclosure frame is square and level before applying finishing materials to the
fireplace enclosure and raised hearth.
13
. Pull the hot air
ducts
through the framed opening and attach to the
collar
on the
outlet
boxes.
Ensure that the clamps supplied are placed over the insulation before
tightening

Attach the
outlet
boxes to the hot air grille frames with the screws provided (Figure
5).
14.
Place finishing materials on the fireplace enclosure.
15
. Attach the

REMEMBER: The enclosure frame, the glass doors and the valance have been shipped to you
with a clear protective coating. You should remove
this
coating from all surfaces prior to
installation. Placing the assembly on a carpet or blanket is recommended so
as
not to mar
the finish .

The information contained
in
the chimney offset data chart pertains to off-
sets below 2.4 m

(4')
(see
Figure
A).
If
the offset length
is
more than 1.2 m
(4'),
an
intermediate support must
be employed at 1.2 m
(4

is
4.8 m

The intermediate support must
be
used
in
conjunction with
an
offset sup-

CARE
AND
OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS
STARTING
THE
FIRE
1.
Always be sure that the fireplace damper
is
FULLY
open at all times before starting each fire. If not, smoke
and flame will lick against the enclosure and into the
room.
2.
There
is
a sliding draft control
in
the lower panel
operated by a pair of knobs. The slide MUST
BE
open
when starting a fire.
3.
Use the Selkirk Acorn Grate which will hold the fire 8
in-
ches from the glass doors.
4.
Do not build too large a fire. Use only sufficient kindling
to
light well seasoned hardwood.
5.
Do not burn paper, trash, garbage, etc. Avoid quick hot
flash type
fi
res.
6.
At first the doors should
be
left partially open to warm
the glass evenly and slowly.
OPERATING
THE
FIRE
1.
If for any reason the fire becomes excessive with
flames licking against the glass doors, open the doors
until the fire dies down.
2.
Close the curtain screen when children are playing
in
front of the fireplace since a burning log which rolls
against the glass may cause it to shatter.
3.
The fireplace damper must be left fully open at all times
while the fire
is
burning.
LEAVING
THE
FIRE
1.
When retiring or leaving the fireplace unattended, close
the curtain screen and the combustion air slide BUT
leave the fireplace damper OPEN. Once the fire
is
cold,
the fireplace damper should be closed until the next
time you light your fireplace.
REMEMBER
Start the
fi
re
slowly, heat the glass gradually to avoid sud-
den temperature changes
in
the glass and keep the fire
medium sized. Failure to operate the fireplace with the
damper fully open will result
in
excessive heat build-up
causing premature failure of the glass.
WARNING
CARE
OF
YOUR
GLASS
DOOR
SET
The metal frame and trim are finished with baked
on
enamel resistant to tarnishing and the heat from a
properly managed fire. Damage or discoloration in-
dicates that the Glass Door Set has been overheated
by too large or hot a fire or a fire too close to the
enclosure.
Do not attempt
to
polish the frame and trim, but use a
mild soap cleaner and water. Dry with a soft scratch-
free cloth. Do not use abrasive or metal polish
cleaners.
The doors may be removed for ease of cleaning by
folding them open, raising the doors up until the bot-
tom hinge pin clears the frame and then swinging the
doors out and down until the upper hinge pin and the
Z shaped retainer are free of the frame. The doors
are replaced
in
the reverse manner. Refer to "In-
stallation of Doors
in
Frame" - Item
2.
Use ammonia and water
to
clean the glass.
Do not use
oi
l or wax type cleaners.
REMEMBER:
The enclosure frame, the glass doors and the valance
have been shipped
to
you with a clear protective coating.
You
should remove this coating from
all
surfaces prior to
installation. Placing the assembly
on
a carpet or blanket
is
recommended so as not to mar the finish.
This Glass Door Set
is
not suitable for use with Acorn Model 832
or
Model 832 Heat Circulating fireplaces
If
in
doubt about the
model
of
your fireplace, contact
us
since hazardous conditions may
be
created by fitting glass doors
to
the
Model 832 or
the
Model 832 Heat Circulator.
