Charging batteries for the first time
Beforeyou start to use your telephonemakesure that all batteries are fully charged for
16 hours.
Important note:
This telephone is not designed for Emergencycalls when themains power fails.
For Emergency calls you should havea basic phone thatoperateswithoutmains power,
connectedtoyour line so thatyoucan make calls during apower failure.

Important Installation Guidelines

heating appliances and direct sunlight.

Avoidother cordless telephones or personal computers.
Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless thejack is specifically designed for
wet locations.
Never touchnon-insulated telephone wires orterminals, unless the telephone line has
been disconnectedatthenetwork interface.
Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
Telephone base and charger installation
1. Plugthesmaller end ofthepower adapter intothepower jack atthebottomof the
telephone base.
2. Plugone endofthetelephone line into the jack atthebottom ofthetelephone base.
3.Plug the other end ofthe telephone line into atelephone wall jack.
4.Plug the larger end ofthe power adapter intoan electrical outlet not
controlled by a wall switch.If youhaveDSL high speedInternetservice, aDSL filter is
required (notincluded). Contactyour DSLservice provider formoreinformation about
DSL filter.

Battery installation
For optimumbattery performance, charge the battery for 16hours beforefirstuse.
1.Makesurethebatterycompartment cover is notattachedwith the handset.
2.Insertthe AAA rechargeable batteries in the battery compartment,matching the +/-
polarity markings.
3.Align thecover against the battery compartmentand slide it upwards until it clicks into
place.
4.Chargethehandset byplacing it in the telephone base or charger.The light onthe
handset is onwhen charging.

Do not disturb
When DO NOT DISTURB (DND) modeis activated,all incoming calls will be silent.This

normal.
Global DND
When global DND is activated,all system handsets and the telephone basewill be silent
when there is an incoming call. PresstheDND button on the telephone base to turn this
featureonor off.
Handset DND
Youcan programindividual handsettosilence during predetermined time frames.This
settingis independent toeach handsetandonly silences the ringer ofthehandset

NOTE: Using the speakerphone will drain thebattery faster than the normal handset use.
Volume control
You can adjustthevolume ofthe handsetor speakerphoneanytimeduring acall.
On thehandset,press + to increase or- to decreasethevolume.
NOTE: Only thelistening volume can beadjusted.

The last ten telephone numbers previously dialed are storedin theredial list (upto24

Callwaiting or callwaiting with callerIDservice
To use call waiting,you mustsubscribe tocall waiting service fromyour telephoneservice
provider. This feature allows you to receive calls while you are already talking onthe
phone. You will hear a call waiting alert tonewhen there is a second incoming call. If you
subscribe tobothcaller ID and call waiting with caller IDservices, the secondcaller’s
informationis displayed afteryou hearthecall waiting alert tone.

Voice mail service
The B icon flashes on the screen when youhave received anew voice mail message
fromyour service provider.
IMPORTANT: Voice mail service is different from theanswering system.Inorder to use
thevoice mail service, you mustsubscribe toit fromyour telephone service provider.
Using multiple handsets
The systemallows a maximumoftwo handsets tohave aconversation withan outside
call at a time.Ifahandsetis already on a call and youwould like to join thecall, press
& on another handset.
The call will not be terminated until all handsets hang up.
Handset page
You can locatea misplaced handset by paging it.
1.Press $ on thetelephone base.All registered handsets beep for one minute.
2.Press $ on thetelephone baseor press & on any handsetto stop paging.
Intercom (only applicable for models with multiple handsets)
The systemallows an intercomcall between two handsets registered to the same
telephone base.
To initiatean intercomcall:
1.Press (.
Ifyour telephone systemhasonly twohandsets registered,the intercomcall will be
automatically directedtotheothersystemhandset.
Ifyour telephone systemhasmorethantwohandsetsregistered,enterthehandset
number youwanttocall by using the dial pad 1-5.

3.To end the intercomcall, press &.
NOTES:

To answer an incoming callduring intercom
You will hear an alerttonewhen youreceive anincoming call during intercom.
Press $ to answer the incoming call and endtheintercom.
Press ( to answertheincoming call and puttheintercomon hold.Press andhold
( to switchbetweenintercomand the incoming call.
Press and hold ( toconferencewith both the incoming call and theintercom.
To initiate an intercom during a call
You can intercomwithanother system handsetduring a call, orinvite anothersystem
handset to join.

Ifyour telephone systemhasonly twohandsets registered,the intercomcall will be
automatically directedtotheothersystemhandset.
Ifyour telephone systemhasmorethantwohandsetsregistered,you will need toenter
thehandset number you want to intercom to by usingthedial pad 1-5. The call is placed
on hold while theintercomis established with the other handset.
2.Press $ to answertheintercomon the other handset.
NOTE: The intercomcall can becanceled beforeit is answeredby pressing del/int onthe
originating handset.
3.You canchoose fromone ofthe following options for this intercom call.
Press and hold ( toconnectbothhandsetstothecall.
Press ( on theoriginating handset to alternate between the intercomandthecall.

continue ontheother handset.
Push to talk (PTT) (onlyapplicable for models with multiple handsets)
You can directly broadcastmessagestothespeakerphone ofanyregistered handsetin
thesystem.If your telephone system has morethantwohandsets:
1.Press +/- to selectthehandsetyou wantto broadcast themessageto,or
select ALLHANDSET to broadcastto all handsets andthenpress %.
2.PRESS ANDHOLD [PTT] TO TALK shows on thescreen whentheconnection is set
betweentheinitiating handset andthedestination handset.
3.Press andhold the? buttonon eitherhandsettostartthe broadcast.
NOTE: Connection setbetween handsets lasts for30minutes after itis established, or30
minutes after the last broadcast.You will need to perform theabove operation again if you
want to initiatea PTT toanother system handsetor after the 30-minutetimeout.

Using Caller ID service
IMPORTANT: To use the Caller-IDcapabilities ofthis telephone system,you must

calls. Each entry holds up to 20digits for the telephone number and14characters for the
name.

Answering system and voice mail
You telephone has abuilt-in answering systemandvoicemail indicator (if yousubscribe
tovoicemail offered by yourtelephone serviceprovider). They are independentfeatures
and eachalerts you to new messages differently. To listen toyour voicemail, follow the
instructions provided by your voicemail service provider.
Message capacity
The answering systemcanrecord upto59 messages.Each message canbe upto3
minutes in length,andthetotal recording timeis 15 minutes.When the message capacity
is full, theanswering systemonly plays theoutgoing announcement but will not record
any message.
Telephone base volume
Use the PO buttons toadjust the playback volumeat the telephone base to a
comfortable level (a beep tone will sound when the volume reaches themaximumor
minimumlevel.)
New message indicator
When thereare newmessages ontheanswering system, thenumber ofnewmessages
flashes on the message window onthetelephone baseand the D icon flashes.
Outgoing Announcement (OGA)
When theanswering systemanswers acall, thepre-recorded outgoing announcement is
played tothecaller unless youhave recordedyour ownoutgoing announcement.
Record an outgoing announcement (OGA)
To record your OGA:

Access the answering system remotely
1.Dial your phone number fromanytouch-tone telephone.
2.Once your answering system takes yourcall and you hearyour outgoing
announcement,press the # key.
3.Enteryour securitycode using the numeric keypad on the touch-tonetelephone.The
systemwill start playing messages after you hear aconfirmation tone.
NOTES:
1.Ifyouranswering systemis off,youwill nothear your outgoing announcement.The
systemwill answer your call after 10 rings.
2.Ifyouhaveenteredan incorrectsecurity code,thesystemwill ask you toenterthecode
again.
3.Ifyouhaveforgotten the security code,youwill need to resetthe system.The security
code will be restored to its default setting as0000 aftersystemreset.

Troubleshooting guide
Ifyour telephone systemis notoperating properly, firsttry this general reset procedures:
1.Unplug all power adapters fromthepower outlets.
2.Disconnect the telephone line cord fromthe baseor modular jack.
3.Removethebattery compartmentcoversand unplug all handsetbattery packs.
4.After a few minutes,re-install all handset batterypacks,making surethatthe
connectors aresnug andthewires are notpinched before replacing all battery
compartment covers.
5.Plug the power adapters for thebase andany chargers backinto their power outlets.Be
sure notto useoutlets thatare controlled by wall switches ortimers.
6.Place all handsets in the telephone base or chargerstocharge withoutinterruption for
at least30minutes before use.
7.Plug the line cord intothetelephone baseor modular jack and verify operation.
General Product Care
Avoiddropping thehandset,as well as otherrough treatmenttothephone.Clean the
phone only with adry softcloth.Never use cleaning agents, paintthinner, abrasive
powder, alcohol, or other chemical products to clean the unit. Doing sowill damagethe
