Safety Precautions
Dentsply Sirona and the distributor of this
product accept no liability for direct or
consequential injury or damage resulting from
improper installation, operation, maintenance
and by not following the Directions for Use.
The Dentsply Sirona Cavitron® Built-In
Ultrasonic Scaling System for A-dec is classified
by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. with respect
to electric shock, fire and mechanical hazards
in accordance with UL 60601-1.
Danger – This system is not intended for
operation in the presence of flammable
anesthetic or gases.
Danger – Failure to observe the installation
instructions and improper operation may result
in serious patient or user injury. The product
could be damaged, possibly beyond repair.
Before using the product, make sure that
you read and fully understand the operating
instructions.
Caution – Always check the safety status of the
product after repairs. The product must always
comply with the appropriate safety standard
after being repaired.
Caution – This product must only be connected
to a medical grade power supply. If this
product is not connected to the medical grade
power supply, the patient or user may get
an electric shock. In addition, the safety and
correct function of this product cannot be
guaranteed.
Section 2: Installation Overview, Components
and Recommended Tools
Installation Overview
The basic overview of the installation is as
follows:
1. The handpiece cable can be installed into a
Traditional style, Continental® style or A-dec
541 Rear delivery system.
2. Cavitron® Built-In Ultrasonic Scaling System
for A-dec is installed in the A-dec control
head.
3. If the A-dec delivery system has a deluxe
touchpad, connect the Cavitron® Built-In
Ultrasonic Scaling System for A-dec to the
deluxe touchpad inputs.
4. If the A-dec delivery system does not have a
deluxe touchpad, install the optional Cavitron®
Built-In Potentiometer Installation for A-dec in
the control head.
5. Verify installation.

Section 3: Scaler Installation Preparation
STEP 1
Turn o the system’s power, air and water.
DANGER: Turn o the power to the system
before you begin this procedure. Failure to do
so can result in electrical shock.
WARNING: Turn o the power to the system
before you begin this procedure. Failure to do
so may result in product damage, serious injury
and/or death.
STEP 2
To open the delivery system cover, lift up on
the center tab on the back of the delivery
system cover. Lift up the tabs on both sides of
the delivery system cover. To remove the cover,
pinch the hinge brackets at the cover base.
CAUTION: When removing or replacing covers,
take care not to damage any wiring. Verify that
the covers are secure after replacing them.
STEP 3
Verify there is space for the scaler inside the
control head. If space is limited, relocate other
ancillary devices. Place the scaler in the left-
rear corner of the control head, leaving about
1/2” to the left and about 1/2” to the rear of the
control head. The harness connector may face
to the right or forward.
WARNING: Do not mount the scaler outside of
the dental control head, doing so will void the
warranty.
Section 4: Continental® Control Head
Handpiece Tubing Installation
STEP 1
Insert the handpiece tubing into the
designated whip arm.
STEP 2
Adjust the handpiece tubing to match the
drape of theother instrument tubing.
STEP 3
Use a small cable tie to fasten the handpiece
tubing at the base of the whip arm pivot.
STEP 4
Route the handpiece tubing wires under the
control head circuit board.
STEP 5
Use a small cable tie to fasten the handpiece
tubing to the control head platform.
STEP 6
Use a large cable tie to attach the handpiece
tubing to the control head platform.
STEP 7
Secure the handpiece tubing strain relief string
with the screw from the installation kit to the
control head platform.
STEP 4
Verify the A-dec control head cover closes. If it
does not close, reposition the Cavitron scaler.
CAUTION: When removing or replacing covers,
take care not to damage any wiring. Verify that
the covers are secure after replacing them.
STEP 5
Confirm there is an empty block position on
the control block.
STEP 6
Verify the empty block is a water block. If not,
replace the dry cartridge with a wet cartridge.

Section 5: Traditional Control Head Handpiece
Tubing Installation
STEP 1
Place the handpiece tubing assembly in the
holder.
STEP 2
Locate an unused opening in the handpiece
tubing guide. Remove the opening cover, if
needed. Route the tubing through the opening.
STEP 5
Secure the handpiece tubing strain relief string
to the control head platform with the screw
from the installation kit.
STEP 7
Secure the handpiece tubing strain relief string
with the screw from the installation kit to the
control head platform.
STEP 5
Route the handpiece tubing through the rear
post of the dental system.
STEP 6
Use a small cable tie to fasten the handpiece
tubing to the other instrument tubing.
STEP 3
Adjust the handpiece tubing to match the
drape of the other instrument tubing.
STEP 4
Use a large cable tie to fasten the handpiece
tubing to the control head platform.
Section 6: A-dec 541 Rear Delivery Handpiece
Tubing Installation
STEP 1
Place the handpiece tubing assembly in the
holder.
STEP 2
Route the handpiece tubing through the
underside of the handpiece tubing guide.
STEP 3
Adjust the handpiece tubing to match the
drape of the other instrument tubing.
STEP 4
Use a large cable tie to fasten the handpiece
tubing to the tubing guide.

Section 7: Cavitron® Built-In Ultrasonic Scaler
for A-dec Installation
STEP 1
Place the scaler in the leftrear corner of the
control head, leaving about 1/2” to the left
and about 1/2” to the rear of the control head.
Adapter Harness may face right or forward.
STEP 2
Verify the A-dec control head cover closes. If it
does not close, reposition the Cavitron scaler.
CAUTION: When removing or replacing covers,
take care not to damage any wiring. Verify that
the covers are secure after replacing them.
WARNING: Do not mount the scaler outside of
the dental control head, doing so will void the
warranty.
STEP 3
Mount the scaler by peeling o the adhesive
strips on the dual lock fasteners provided and
secure the scaler. Screws may also be used.
STEP 4
Connect the Adapter Harness to the Scaler.
Then connect the Control Harness and
Handpiece connectors.
STEP 7
Connect the clear handpiece water tube to the
”OUT” fitting on the water regulator.
STEP 13
Proceed to Section 9 Main PC Board
Installation for A-dec 500 Delivery Systems
STEP 8
Connect the air electric switch QD adaptor to
the ”DA” drive air port of the control block.
STEP 9
Insert a QD plug (from the installation kit) into
AC” air coolant port of the control block.
STEP 10
Close the slide lock to secure the QD plugs.
STEP 11
Connect the blue wire with white stripe to the
terminal block containing the grey wires to
24 VAC.
STEP 12
Connect the blue wire to the terminal block
containing black wires to 0 VAC.
STEP 5
Open the slide lock on the control block.
STEP 6
Connect the clear water tubing QD adaptor to
the ”WC” water port of the control block.

Section 8: A-dec 541 Rear Delivery -
Cavitron® Built-In Ultrasonic Scaler for A-dec
Installation
STEP 1
The scaler should be mounted on the platform,
on the side containing the A-dec control head
circuit board. The Adaptor Harness should be
placed on the right.
STEP 2
The dual lock fasteners may be used to fasten
the scaler. Peel o the adhesive strips on the
dual lock fasteners and secure the scaler to the
control platform.
An alternative is to fasten the scaler with
hardware using available slots.
STEP 3
Connect the Adapter Harness to the scaler
unit. Then connect the Control Harness and
Handpiece connectors.
STEP 4
Open the slide lock on the control block.
STEP 5
Connect the clear water tubing QD adaptor
from water regulator input to the ”WC” water
port of the control block.
STEP 6
Connect the clear handpiece water tube to the
”OUT” fitting on the water regulator.

STEP 7
Connect the air electric switch QD adaptor to
the ”DA” drive air port of the control block.
STEP 8
Insert a QD plug (from the installation kit) into
AC” air coolant port of the control block.
STEP 9
Close the slide lock to secure the QD plugs.
STEP 10
Coil wires and tubing, as neatly as possible and
use a cable tie to secure it to the panel or to
the gray umbilical hoses. Ensure the tubes are
not kinked or crimped.
STEP 11
Connect the blue wire with white stripe to the
terminal block containing the grey wires to
24 VAC.
STEP 12
Connect the blue wire to the terminal block
containing black wires to 0 VAC.

Section 9: Main PC Board Installation for
A-dec 500 Delivery Systems
Connect to the Main PC Board
STEP 1
Connect the black wire to the 0 VDC terminal.
CAUTION: Circuit boards are sensitive to
static electricity. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
precautions are required when touching a
circuit board or making connections to or
from the circuit board. Circuit boards should
be installed only by an electrician or qualified
service person.
STEP 2
Connect the yellow wire to the 5 VDC terminal.
CAUTION: Circuit boards are sensitive to
static electricity. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
precautions are required when touching a
circuit board or making connections to or
from the circuit board. Circuit boards should
be installed only by an electrician or qualified
service person.
Configure the Ultrasonic Instrument Holder
Position
STEP 1
Press and hold the Program and A/B button at
the same time for 3 seconds.
STEP 2
Follow the instructions on the screen to
configure holder position as an ultrasonic
instrument.
STEP 3
Select HANDPIECES.
STEP 5
For Acteon Colors, Select OFF.
STEP 6
Select SAVE.
STEP 4
Select ULTRASONIC SETUP.
Note: For older touchpads, select SCALER.

Configure the Deluxe Touchpad Display
STEP 1
Press and hold the Program and A/B button at
the same time for 3 seconds.
STEP 2
Press to select Begin.
Configure the Deluxe Touchpad Memory
Buttons
The ultrasonic scaler memory buttons are
factory preset to the power levels as indicated
below:
The Cavitron Built-In Ultrasonic Scaling System
for A-dec presets can be reprogrammed to a
desired power setting following these steps:
STEP 1
Select the scaler handpiece by removing it
from the handpiece holder or pulling the whip
forward.
STEP 2
Adjust the scaler power with the plus (+) or
minus (-) buttons on the A-dec Touchpad. The
scaler power level may be set from 5 – 100%.
STEP 3
Verify the water is turned on to ensure cooling
of the handpiece and insert tip.
STEP 4
Program a Memory Button:
Press the Program button. One beep and a
blinking ”P” in the top right corner of the
display indicates you are in the Program mode.
STEP 5
Press the memory button to be programmed
(m1 – m4).
STEP 6
Three (3) beeps confirm the setting.
STEP 7
Repeat Steps 2 - 6 for additional memory
button power levels.

Section 10: Cavitron Built-In Ultrasonic
Scaler Potentiometer Installation for
A-dec 500 Delivery Systems
(The following steps are required only if
Deluxe Touchpad is not used, instead the
Potentiometer Accessory Kit is installed.)
STEP 1
Open the control head cover. Pull up on the
accessory plate on the left side of the control
head.
STEP 2
Attach and orient the power label to the pre-
drilled accessory plate from the installation kit,
as shown in the picture to the right.
STEP 3
Mount the potentiometer to the accessory
plate with the three potentiometer wire tabs
positioned straight up on the accessory plate
for proper alignment.
STEP 4
Use the washer and nut provided to fasten the
potentiometer to the accessory plate.
STEP 5
Turn the potentiometer shaft fully
counterclockwise. Install the knob with the
pointer directed to the minimum position.
Tighten the 2 set screws with the 1/16” hex key
from the installation kit. Turn knob to verify the
rotation matches the dial markings.
STEP 6
Install the accessory plate in the dental control
head.

Section 11: Cavitron Built-In Ultrasonic Scaler Potentiometer Installation for
A-dec 541 Delivery Systems
(The following steps are required only if Deluxe Touchpad is not used, instead the Potentiometer
Accessory Kit is installed.)
STEP 1
Mount the potentiometer to the Model 541 bracket with the three potentiometer wire tabs
positioned downward.
STEP 2
Use the 5/8 inch washer, star washer and nut provided to fasten the potentiometer to the
bracket as shown in photo.
STEP 3
Turn the potentiometer shaft fully counterclockwise. Install the knob with the pointer directed to
the minimum position. Tighten the 2 set screws with the 1/16” hex key from the installation kit.
Section 12: Installation Verification
STEP 1
Turn on power, air and water to the delivery
system.
STEP 2
Lift the Cavitron Built-In Ultrasonic Scaling
System for A-dec handpiece cable from holder
or pull handpiece cable whip arm forward.
STEP 3
Align the Steri-Mate handpiece and the
handpiece cable connector and plug the
handpiece onto the cable.
STEP 4
Adjust the A-dec 500 control head water flow
control to maximum for the Cavitron Built-In
Ultrasonic Scaling System for A-dec and for a
disc foot control, turn on the foot control water
toggle switch.
STEP 5
Turn the water flow control for the handpiece
position to maximum. Also, turn the handpiece
tubing water flow control to maximum. Activate
the foot control disc or lever for two minutes
to flush out the water system. Then hold the
handpiece vertically to fill handpiece with
water. Release the foot control.
STEP 6
Place a Cavitron Ultrasonic insert into the
handpiece.
STEP 7
Activate the foot control disc or lever and
verify the insert oscillates.
STEP 8
Adjust the scaling power using the deluxe
touchpad or optional potentiometer. Verify the
scaling power changes with the touchpad or
potentiometer settings.

STEP 9
Verify the water flow is adjustable from zero
to maximum flow using the flow control at the
rear of the handpiece.
STEP 10
Release the foot control and verify no water
leaks.
STEP 11
Verify wires and tubing are not trapped or
kinked.
STEP 12
Reinstall the control head cover.
NOTE: The Cavitron Built-In Ultrasonic Scaling
System for A-dec has been successfully
installed.

Power On Icon:
If LED is illuminated, Cavitron Scaler has
power. Verify 24VAC is being applied to
scaler via the Blue wire and Blue wire
with white stripe.
Microprocessor Activity Icon:
LED will blink when the microprocessor is active. If the LED is not blinking and the
Power LED is illuminated, cycle the power o and on.
CAN Bus Activity Icon:
If the G139 is connected to the a-dec CAN Bus the LED will blink when
communication is occurring between the a-dec treatment center and G139 Cavitron
scaler. If the G139 is not connected to the a-dec CAN Bus the LED will not illuminate.
Foot Control Icon:
LED will illuminate when the dental unit
foot control is depressed. If the Cavitron
Air Electric Switch harness is being
used and LED does not illuminate when
foot control is depressed, verify at least
20PSI is being delivered to Air Electric
Switch.
Handpiece Continuity Icon:
Handpiece Continuity Icon will illuminate when dental unit foot control is depressed
and handpiece is attached to the handpiece cable.
If LED does not illuminate check the following:
Verify Foot Control Icon illuminates when foot control is depressed
Verify connections are secure between the Steri-Mate, Handpiece Cable, adaptor
harness and unit.
Check handpiece cable and Handpiece pins for damage or corrosion.
Unplug adaptor harness from unit and measure the resistance across pin 1 (Red
Wire) and pin 3 (Green Wire) with handpiece connected and verify 0.4 ohms.
