Expansion buses
PC/104-Plus bus interface
The PC/104-Plus bus interface on the ALUDRA supports PCI local bus compatible peripherals and is
compliant to PCI Local Bus Specification Revision 2.1. This version of the PCI bus is intended as a 32-
bit bus running at 33MHz.
The ALUDRA supports a stack of up to four PC/104-Plus cards.
The +3.3V, +5V and +12V power rails are routed to the PCI connector to provide power to the PC/104-
Plus modules. The ALUDRA power connector is not provided with +12V from the breakout board. If
+12V is required, it is recommended that an ATX power supply is used instead of the power from the
breakout board.
If -5V or -12V is required, they need to be supplied directly to the PC/104 add-on board.
PC/104 bus interface
PC/104 bus interface (www.pc104.org) supports 16-bit ISA compatible peripherals. Standard 64+40
way 0.1" stack-through connectors are used.
The ALUDRA supports a stack of up to four PC/104 cards.
The +5V and +12V power rails are routed to the ISA connectors to provide power to the PC/104
modules. The ALUDRA power connector is not provided with +12V from the breakout board. If +12V is
required, it is recommended that an ATX power supply is used instead of the power from the breakout
board.
If -5V or -12V is required, they need to be supplied directly to the PC/104 add-on board.
PCI Express Mini Card sockets
Two PCI Express Mini Card sockets are available for wireless connectivity. Two of the ICH7-M PCI
Express ports and USB 2.0 ports are connected directly to the PCIe Mini Card sockets on the
ALUDRA.
PCI socket
The PCI socket provided on the ALUDRA supports PCI Local Bus Specification Revision 2.3, 32-bit at
33MHz.
CompactFlash socket
A CompactFlash (CF) socket is provided on the ALUDRA and located under the RJ45 connector. The
CF socket is fitted with an ejector to facilitate removal.
An LED is present on the ALUDRA-Breakout and signals access to a CF card, IDE bus and SATA bus.
Hardware specification
13
Graphics support
The ALUDRA Development Kit supports dual independent pipe for multiple display modes on two
outputs:
18-bit LVDS.
VGA.
The two display outputs can be configured in a number of display modes, to allow for independent
display timings and extended desktop/multi-monitor operating modes.
Audio support
The ALUDRA Development Kit supports stereo line in and out and a mono microphone input on
standard 3.5mm stereo jacks on the ALUDRA breakout board.
USB support
There are four user USB 2.0 high-speed root ports accessible on USB A connectors located on the
ALUDRA-Breakout board. USB 2.0 allows data transfers up to 480MB/s.
Ethernet
Two 10/100/1000 Ethernet RJ45 sockets are available on the ALUDRA board. The Realtek
RTL8111CP Gigabit Ethernet controller supports MDI/MDI-X feature, enabling auto-correction of
incorrect cabling with respect to cross-over versus straight-through cables.
Link and Activity LEDs are built in the RJ45 socket and indicate the link state and transfer activity of
the ALUDRA over the network.
IDE support
The single primary parallel ATA/IDE interface is directly accessible on the ALUDRA board through a
44-pin header (IDE1) on the ALUDRA board. This gives the user the possibility to connect an external
hard drive or CD-drive to the ALUDRA board.
An LED is present on the ALUDRA-Breakout and signals access to a CF card, IDE bus and SATA bus.
SATA support
Two SATA interfaces (SATA1 and SATA2) are directly accessible on the ALUDRA board. Power for
these is provided by two 2-pin headers (CN1 and CN2) This gives the user the possibility to connect
external hard drives or CD drives to the ALUDRA board.
An LED is present on the ALUDRA-Breakout and signals access to a CF card, IDE bus and SATA bus.
PS/2 interface
Legacy PS/2 keyboard and mouse are supported on standard PC MiniDin connectors on the ALUDRA
breakout board.

Serial ports
Serial ports 1 and 2 are full RS-232 interface ports accessible on standard SUBD9 male connectors on
the ALUDRA breakout board.
Serial port 3 is a full RS-232 interface port and is connected to the Eurotech TSC1 by default. (This is
only fitted for the LCD variant only.)
Touchscreen controller
The ALUDRA Development Kit supports the Eurotech’s TSC1. The TSC1 is an analogue resistive
touchscreen controller that interfaces with the processor board via an RS232 serial port.
For more details about the TSC1, please contact the Eurotech sales team (see page Eurotech
Worldwide Presence).
GPIO
Four digital inputs and outputs are provided with +5V and GND on a 2 x 5-way connector with push-in
spring-cage connections on the ALUDRA breakout board.
Input and output levels are indicated by 2 banks of 4 LEDs on the ALUDRA breakout board. The LEDs
are on with a low logic level and off with a high logic level.
The digital inputs logic level can be set without external wiring by fitting the corresponding jumper to
the digital input selection header. If these inputs are controlled by external hardware the jumper must
not be fitted to the header. Fitting a jumper sets the logic level low (LED on).
Power requirements
The ALUDRA Development Kit system operates from a single +5V (+/-5%) power input on a 3.5mm
pitch screw terminal socket.
A suitable +5V power supply is provided in the kit (auto-ranging 90-264VAC input, 5VDC 10A output
switching power supply).
The typical power consumption of the Development Kit system with no extra device/add-on card is less
than 20W.
A removable wired CR2032 coin cell battery is provided for RTC backup on the ALUDRA board.
