Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the RoadPro RPPI-2500W power inverter, a high
performance solution to using household power while on the road. If properly
used, the inverter will give you years of reliable service providing AC power for
TVs, computers, VCRs, DVD players, stereos and power tools.
For safe and optimum performance, the inverter must be installed and used
properly. Carefully read and follow the guidelines in this guide giving special
attention to the CAUTION and WARNING statements.
CAUTION statements provide information that could damage your inverter or
equipment connected to it.
WARNING statements provide information on conditions that could result in
personal injury or loss of life.
3
Safety
Incorrect installation or use of the RPPI-2500W could result in personal injury or
damage to the inverter and/or attached equipment. Read and follow the
directions in the owner’s guide.
The RoadPro RPPI-2500W produces the same potentially lethal AC power as normal
household outlets. It is suggested that you treat it with the same respect that you
would any AC outlet.
DO NOT insert any foreign objects into the RPPI-2500W’s outlets, vents or fan
openings.
DO NOT expose the RPPI-2500W to rain, water or any other liquids.
DO NOT connect the RPPI-2500W to ANY utility power distribution systems or
branch circuits.
WARNING Shock hazard. Keep away from children.
4
Safety
WARNING Heated case and surface.
The case to the RPPI-2500W may become very warm under high power operation
reaching 140°F. Be sure that there is at least 2 inches of unobstructed air space
around the entire surface of the inverter at all times.
During use, DO NOT place materials that could be damaged by heat on or near the
RPPI-2500W.
DO NOT operate the RPPI-2500W near flammable fumes or gases such as the bilge
of a gasoline power boat, or near propane tanks.
DO NOT operate the RPPI-2500W in an enclosed area that contains automotive
type lead-acid batteries. This type of battery emits explosive hydrogen gas which
can be ignited by sparks.
WARNING Explosion hazard.
5
Safety
CAUTION
DO NOT connect the RPPI-2500W to live AC power circuits. Damage to the inverter
will result even if the power switch is in the OFF position.
DO NOT connect any AC device which has its neutral conductor connected to
ground.
DO NOT expose the RPPI-2500W to temperatures in excess of 104°F.
DO NOT use the RPPI-2500W on the following items:
1. Small battery-operated appliances such as flashlights, razors and nightlights
that can be plugged directly into an AC outlet to recharge.
2. Certain battery chargers for battery packs used in hand power tools. These
chargers will have a Warning Label indicating that dangerous voltages are
present at the battery terminals.
6
Safety
The problems described on page 5 do not occur with most battery operated
equipment. The vast majority of these items use a separate charger or
transformer that plugs into the AC outlet and produces a low voltage output. If the
label on your adapter states that it produces a low voltage (AC or DC) output
(30 volts or less) then the RPPI-2500W will operate the item safely.
Connect the RPPI-2500W to batteries with a normal output of 12-volts DC only.
6-volt batteries do not supply enough voltage, and a 24-volt battery supplies too
much voltage and will damage the RPPI-2500W.
ALWAYS make all AC connections BEFORE making DC connections. Even if the
RPPI-2500W’s power switch is in the OFF position, components built into the
inverter can become energized producing an electrical shock hazard. Never work
on the AC wiring without first physically disconnecting the DC connections.
CAUTION (cont’d)

Installation
SELECTING A SUITABLE LOCATION
The RPPI-2500W must be installed in an area that meets the following
requirements in order to operate safely and provide optimum performance:
1. DRY—DO NOT expose the unit to moisture.
2. COOL—Ambient air temperature should be between 32°F and 104°F. Cooler
areas are best.
3. VENTILATION—Allow at least 2 inches of clearance above and around all sides
and top of the unit for proper cooling.
4. SAFE—DO NOT install the RPPI-2500W in a compartment with batteries or
flammable liquids or vapors such as gasoline or propane.
5. CLEAN—DO NOT install the RPPI-2500W in an area that is prone to dirt, dust or
debris. This is especially important if used in a work environment.
MOUNTING
Mount the RPPI-2500W on a flat surface, either horizontally or vertically using at
least #10 or larger corrosion resistant hardware.
8
CONNECTING ALL FOUR DC POWER CABLES: RED = +, Black = –
1. Turn the On/Off Switch to the OFF position.
2. Connect both red cables to the red input terminals on the right side of the
inverter. Insert the bare end of the cables into the terminal and tighten the
screw to safely clamp cables.
Note: Both red cables must be connected for the RPPI-2500W to function properly.
3. Connect both black cables to the black input terminals on the left side of the
inverter. Insert the bare end of the cables into the terminal and tighten the
screw to safely clamp cables.
Note: Both black cables must be connected for the RPPI-2500W to function properly.
4. Attach both the BLACK cables to the battery’s negative (-) terminal then attach
both the RED cables to the battery’s positive (+) terminal. Use grommets to
protect cables from bare metal edges.
CAUTION
Reversing the polarity of these cables (positive to negative) will result in
damage to the RPPI-2500W and will void the warranty.
Use only the cables supplied with this unit. Using longer cables will require a thicker cable
to reduce or minimize voltage drop to inverter.
5. For safety disconnect the RPPI-2500W from the battery when not in use.
Installation - Please Note You Must Connect All Four Cables for Proper Installation
9
Using the RPPI-2500W
After properly installing and connecting the RPPI-2500W to the 12-volt power
source, turn the power switch on. The GREEN POWER LED will illuminate
indicating that AC power is present at the AC outlets.
Connect your AC products to the RPPI-2500W.
Turn on the AC products one at a time.
The RPPI-2500W will operate from input voltages ranging from 12.8 volts to 13.2
volts. As your battery voltage is used up the voltage begins to drop. When the
voltage drops to 10.8 volts, the RPPI-2500W audible alarm sounds giving you the
time necessary to power down sensitive products such as computers. When the
input voltage drops to 9.8 volts, the RPPI-2500W will shut down and the RED FAULT
LED will illuminate to prevent damage to your battery.
The RPPI-2500W will also shut down and illuminate the RED FAULT LED if the input
voltage reaches 16.5 volts.
CAUTION Although the RPPI-2500W is protected against over voltages
it may still be damaged if the input voltage exceeds 16.5 volts.
10
The RPPI-2500W will shut down and illuminate the RED FAULT LED if the operating
temperature is exceeded due to poor ventilation or a high temperature
environment.
The internal cooling fans are designed to run when the RPPI-2500W is providing
100 watts of power or above. If possible use a spacer when mounting the inverter
to allow for greater air flow.
Even though the RPPI-2500W draws minimal current when turned on with no AC
load running, you should disconnect the inverter from the 12-volt power source
when not in use.
IMPORTANT Most vehicle batteries are designed to provide short
periods of very high current for starting the engine. They are not
designed for a constant “deep discharge”. Constantly operating the
RPPI-2500W from a vehicle battery until the low voltage alarm sounds
will affect the life of the battery. If you are operating electrical
products for extended periods of time, you should consider connecting
the RPPI-2500W to a separate deep discharge battery.

Controls, Alarms and Indicators
ON/OFF SWITCH
This switch activates and deactivates the AC power to the three AC outlets on the
RPPI-2500W. NOTE: This switch does not disconnect the power to the inverter.
GREEN POWER LED
Indicates the power switch is on and AC power is present at the AC outlets.
RED FAULT LED
Indicates the RPPI-2500W has been shutdown due to low or high voltage, an
overload or excessive temperature.
AUDIBLE ALARMS
The RPPI-2500W will sound an AUDIBLE alarm if the input voltage drops to 10.7
volts, allowing time to shut down sensitive equipment such as computers. The
RPPI-2500W automatically shuts down when the voltage drops to 9.8 volts.
CURRENT METER (middle of the bar graph is normal)
The current meter indicates the currect draw from the battery. It does not
indicate current draw by other loads also connected to the battery.
12
Operating time will vary depending upon the type, capacity and charge level of
the battery, and the power draw of the AC products you are using. With a normal
vehicle battery and a 100 watt load (such as a small television) you can expect an
operating time of 2 to 3 hours.
It is recommended that you start your vehicle once an hour when using the
RPPI-2500W for extended periods of time to prevent draining the battery.
WARNING To prevent personal injury or loss of life, never start or
leave your engine running in a poorly ventilated area such as a garage.
To calculate wattage, multiply the voltage by the amperage.
Example: 115 Volts x 1.9 Amps = 219 Watts
To calculate the total watt-hours of energy consumption, multiply the power by
the operating time. To determine how many 12-volt amp hours will be consumed,
divide the watt hours by 10.
Example: 150 Watts x 1 Hour = 150 Watt Hours • 150 Watt Hours –: 10 = 15 12-Volt Amp Hours
Power Consumption
13
Interference with Electronic Equipment
Most products used with the RPPI-2500W will operate the same as they would with
general household power. Two exceptions may occur. See below.
“BUZZING” IN SOUND SYSTEMS AND RADIOS
Less expensive stereos, portable stereos and AM/FM radios have less than
adequate power supply filter systems and may have a slight “buzz” when used
with the RPPI-2500W. Commonly, the only solution to this situation is using a
higher quality stereo system or radio.
TELEVISION INTERFERENCE
Although the RPPI-2500W is shielded to minimize interference with TV signals,
some weak TV signals may be affected by interference. This interference shows
up in the form of lines scrolling across the screen. Should this occur, try using a
short extension cord, or reposition the television and RPPI-2500W to put more
distance between the two. Use high quality antenna cables that are shielded.
Because certain televisions are internally different, try a different television to
correct the problem.
