The Capital Precision Series range of barbecues are designed and made in the United States. This supplement
provides important additional information that is specific to Australian conditions. This must be read in conjunction
with the main user manual which came with the appliance.
Ensure all product documentation, including this supplement, remains with the appliance owner.
NOTES ON METRIC UNIT CONVERSIONS

BURNER GAS CONSUMPTION
Th
e main user manual provides burner consumption in BTU’s using US gas rates. For the gas consumption in MJ/h
for each burner in your appliance, please refer to the data plate located on your barbecue.

PUTTING YOUR BARBECUE IN AN ENCLOSURE
This appliance must only be used in an above ground,
open air situation with natural ventilation, without stagnant
areas, where gas leakage and products of combustion are rapidly dispersed by wind and natural convection. Any
enclosure in which the appliance is used must comply with one of the following:
W
ithin a partial enclosure that
includes an overhead cover and
no more than two walls.
Within a partial enclosure that includes an
overhead cover and more than two walls, the
following shall apply:
o At least 25% of the total wall area is
completely open; and
o At least 30% of the remaining wall area is
open and unrestricted.
In the case of balconies, at least 20% of the
total of the side, back and front wall areas shall
be and remain open and unrestricted.
Any enclosure with walls on all sides,
but at least one permanent opening
at ground level, and no overhead
cover.

GAS TYPE
The Capital range of barbecues comes preset for either LPG (2.75kPa) or Natural Gas (1.0kPa). Please refer to the
data plate for details of burner jet sizes and gas consumption. It is imperative that you confirm the gas type available
to the location prior to installing. Allowing the barbecue to be connected to the wrong gas type can cause a serious
fire and/or health hazard.
GENERAL INSTALLATION NOTES
These installation instructions have been prepared for use by authorised persons. This unit must be installed only by
an authorised person.
This barbecue must be installed in accordance with the requirements of local authorities, gas, electricity and any
other statutory regulations, as well as the latest published versions of the following standards:
o AS/NZS 5601 Gas Installation code
o SAA Wiring Rules
CLEARANCES
Ensure the following minimum clearances to combustible materials:
o 300mm from the sides
o 900mm above the hotplate
GAS INLET CONNECTION
are to be in an accessible location.
Gas inlet connection is via a stainless steel braided hose with an inlet nut located at the rear of the unit, on the far
right bottom corner. There is approximately 250mm vertical and horizontal play in the final position of the inlet.
Inlet connection thread is ½” NPT female.

Fit the supplied regulator at the rear of appliance, and as close as practicable to the appliance.
An isolating valve and union must be fitted, to enable simple disconnection for servicing. These

the supplied regulator must be fitted to the appliance inlet connection. Gas pressure must be adjusted to 1.0 kPa
when approximately 50% of the burners are on high flame, the appliance test point is located on the regulator.

FLEXIBLE HOSE
If a flexible hose is used to connect to the inlet, it should be as short as possible with a maximum length of 1.5
metres;
o The flexible connection must be approved to class B or D of AS/NZS1869 as a minimum.
o it should not be bent, kinked or compressed;
o it should not be in contact with the rear wall of the appliance or in any case with parts which may reach a
temperature of 50°C;
o it should not come into contact with pointed parts or sharp corners;
o it should not be subject to any pulling or twisting forces;
o it should be easy to inspect along its entire length in order to be able to check its condition.
o The supply connection point must be accessible with the appliance installed.
o The inner diameters of the pipe are as follows:
8 mm for LPG;
13 mm for Natural Gas.
Ensure that the gap between the probe and the surface of the rear burner is 3mm.
POST INSTALLATION CHECKS
Perform post installation checks and ensure proper and safe operation before leaving. If you cannot achieve
satisfactory performance, contact the service centre
Test all burners individually and in combination. Instruct the user and leave all documentation with the user before
leaving.

BARBECUE OPERATION
C
ONTROL KNOBS
The cooktop knobs are marked OFF, HI AND LO. Do not allow any burner to operate with the knob between OFF and
HI.
TURNING ON
Lighting the Grill Burner
Note: Open the grill lid before lighting. Turn all knobs to “OFF”. Turn the main gas supply on. If you smell
gas, shut‐off the gas supply and call for service.
1. Press and hold the selected burner knob and turn it to “HIGH” while continuing the hold the
knob pressed in. You will hear the burner igniter begin to make a clicking sound
2. The burner will ignite within 4‐5 seconds. When the burner is lit the clicking sound will stop.
3. Continue to hold the knob pressed in for 5‐10 seconds. This allows the safety system to heat and
sense the burner flame and remain lit.
4. If the knob is released before the safety system is hot the flame will extinguish. If this occurs,
restart the lighting process at Step 1
5. If the burner does not ignite within 5 seconds and you smell gas, turn the burner knob to the
“OFF” position and wait 5 minutes to allow any accumulated gas to dissipate before attempting
to re‐light the burner.
6. If the flame goes out during use and there is gas available the ignition system will begin clicking
again and will automatically re‐ignite the burner. If there are windy conditions the burner may
click periodically which is normal.
7. If the flame goes out or windy conditions move the flame too much the safety system will shut
off gas to the burner. If this occurs, wait 5 minutes and until the windy conditions reduce and
relight starting at Step 1
Match or Butane Lighting Method
CAUTION: Keep your face and hands as far away from the grill as possible when manually lighting
burners.
In the event of a power failure or if a burner igniter is damaged, the grill can still be used. If an attempt
has just been made to ignite a burner, wait 5 minutes and follow the procedure below:
1. A match holder is provided and located in the drip tray slide out section of the Grill on the right
hand side.
2. Separate two grate sections above the desired burner as shown in Fig. 12 to allow access to the
ignition area.
3. Using the match holder provided, securely place a match in the clip side of the holder.
4. Ignite the match and insert it between the separated grates. Place the flame of the match close
to one of the holes of the desired burner.
5. Press and hold the selected burner knob and turn it to “HIGH” while continuing the hold the
knob pressed in.
6. The burner will ignite within 4‐5 seconds.
7. Continue to hold the knob pressed in for 5‐10 seconds. This allows the safety system to heat and
sense the burner flame and remain lit.
8. If the flame goes out during use the safety system will turn the gas to the burner off.

URNING OFF
Rotate the control knob till the OFF position on the knob is at the 12 o’clock position.
NOTE:

ilure to follow these turn on and shutdown procedures could lead to a hazardous condition.
TURNING ON AFTER EXTENDED BREAK
When you turn the barbecue on for the first time after an extended break, such as a holiday, or for the first time
after servicing or installation, allow a safe purge of the gas lines. Turn each gas knob on as normal, but allow several
more attempts while trapped air is cleared from the gas lines.
FOOD SAFETY
Yo
u should not store food at temperatures between 4°C and 60°C for longer than 2 hours.
USING THE ROASTING HOOD
The roasting hood must be open while lighting the barbecue, and must remain open for at least 10 minutes before
cooking with the hood closed..
