1 Safety Instructions

• Read this guide carefully and keep it for future reference.

• Follow all instructions for safe use of the product and handle with

care.

• Use the camera within given temperature, humidity, and voltage

levels noted in the Technical Specifications.

• Camera is rated for outdoor use and is weatherproof when prop-

erly installed. Camera is not intended for submersion in water. In-

stallation under a sheltered environment is recommended.

• Do not disassemble the camera.

• Do not point the camera directly towards the sun or a source of in-

tense light.

• Use only the supplied regulated power supply. Use of a non-regu-

lated, non-conforming power supply can damage this product and

voids the warranty.

• Make sure to install the camera in a location that can support the

camera weight.

• Make sure there are no live electrical cables in the area where you

plan to mount the camera.

• Periodic cleaning may be required. Use a damp cloth only. Do not

use anything other than water to clean the dome cover, as chemi-

cals such as acetone can permanently damage the plastic.

3 Connecting the Camera

CAUTION

When using this camera to connect with non FLIR branded MPX /

CVI recorders, ensure the non MPX / CVI recorders follow the offi-

cial HD analog protocol standards for CVI / AHD / TVI. If the re-

corder does not follow the official HD analog protocol standards,

we cannot guarantee interoperability between the camera

and the HD analog recorder.

When you first power up the camera and connect it to the DVR, it may

take up to two minutes for the camera image to appear.

It is recommended to connect the camera to your DVR and test the

PTZ controls before permanent installation. For instructions on how to

set up PTZ controls, see 6 Controlling the PTZ Camera with a FLIR

MPX DVR, page 18.

3 Connecting the Camera

1. BNC: Connect the BNC video connector on the camera cable to

a single run of RG59 / RG6 coaxial cable, or to an analog CCTV

balun with a single run of network cable (CAT5e or higher).

NOTE

The video signal can be extended up to 1640ft (500m) with a

single run of RG6 cabling. See 3.1 Video Cabling, page 6 for

details on extension cable options.

2. 12V DC: Connect the camera’s power cable to the included 12V

DC power supply.

CAUTION

Make sure to disconnect the power cable before installing the

camera. The camera will begin moving immediately when the

power cable is connected.

3. Alarm (Optional): Connect the camera to up to 2 alarm input de-

vices and 1 alarm output device.

4. Audio (Optional): Connect the camera to a self-powered micro-

phone for listen-in audio.

5. RS485: Only for use with analog DVRs (CVBS) — To control the

camera’s PTZ functions, connect the camera’s RS485 cables to

the DVR’s RS485 ports. Match the polarity of the RS485 cables

with the DVR’s RS485 positive and negative ports. See 8 Control-

ling the PTZ Camera with an Analog DVR (CVBS), page 45 for full

details.

3 Connecting the Camera

3.1 Video Cabling

You can extend the video signal from this camera using a single ex-

tension cable between the camera and the DVR. See the table below

for the maximum cable run lengths for all supported cable types:

* Long cable runs over 1000ft may be affected by electro-mechanical

interference (EMI), which can increase the amount of noise in the pic-

ture in some installations.

3.2 Power Cabling

See the table below for required cable gauge for longer power cable

runs. For other installations, connect the included 12V DC power

adapter directly to the camera. Due to voltage drops, it is not recom-

mended to extend power cabling beyond 100ft (31m).

4 Installation

4.1 Installation Tips & Warnings

WARNING

Make sure to install the camera in a location that can support the

camera weight.

• Camera is rated for outdoor use. It is recommended to install the

camera in a sheltered area, such as under the eaves on a roof.

• It is recommended to install the camera as high up as possible to

get the best possible image.

• To extend the length of the cable, see 3.1 Video Cabling, page 6.

• Mount the camera where the lens is away from direct and intense

sunlight.

• Plan your cable wiring so that it does not interfere with power lines

or telephone lines.

• Ensure you adhere to local building codes.

• Ensure that the camera wiring is not exposed or easily cut.

• Mount the camera in an area that is visible but out of reach.

This camera includes all components required for wall mounting.

4 Installation

4.2 Installation (Indoor / Outdoor)

CAUTION

• Make sure to disconnect the power cable before installing the

camera. Camera will begin moving immediately when power

cable is connected.

• Make sure to install the camera in a location that can support

the camera weight.

To install the camera on a wall:

1. Attach the included rubber ring to the back of the wall mount to

ensure the weatherproof rating of the camera.

2. Use the included Allen key to attach the M6x14 screws (3x) to the

wall mount. Do not tighten all the way.

3. Use the included wall mount to mark holes for the mounting bolts

(4x) and cables. Drill holes in the mounting surface where

marked.

4. Disassemble the mounting bolt sets (4x). Place the anchors (4x)

on the mounting bolts (4x) with the expandable side on the wide

end of the bolt. Insert the wide end of the mounting bolt assembly

into the wall and tap the bolts into the wall with a hammer.

5. Pull the connection cable(s) through the mounting surface and

wall mount.

6. Place the wall mount over the mounting bolts and attach the wall

mount to the wall by screwing a flat washer (4x), spring washer

(4x), and nut (4x) on each bolt.

7. Connect the safety chain between the camera and the wall mount.

This allows the camera to hang from the wall mount while con-

necting the cables.

CAUTION

You must connect the safety chain between the camera and

the wall mount to protect the camera from falling while con-

necting the cables.

8. Connect the connection cable(s) and then push the cable(s) into

the wall mount. See 3 Connecting the Camera, page 4 for full

details.

9. Push the camera into the wall mount with the flat surfaces aligned

on the inside. This will allow the M6x14 screw (1) on the wall

mount to align with the hole on the camera.

1. M6x14 screw (1) on the flat surface (inside) of the wall mount.

2. Hole on the camera.

3. Flat surface on the camera.

4. M6x14 screw (2x).

10. Use the included Allen key to tighten the M6x14 screw (3x) to se-

cure the camera.

11. Remove protective vinyl sheet covering the camera lens once in-

stallation is completed.

5 Switch Between HD Analog Video

Formats

This camera includes a UTC controller used to switch between multi-

ple HD analog video formats. Note that the C346ZC252 PTZ camera

is defaulted to MPX / CVI video output. For a full list of supported for-

mats, see http://www.flir.com/security/MPXcomp.

WARNING

By default, FLIR MPX DVRs and MPX cameras are set to CVI vid-

eo format. Use the UTC controller only when connecting to a non

MPX / CVI recorder or a recorder that is not defaulted to MPX / CVI

video format. Check you recorder’s manual for details.

CAUTION

When using this camera to connect with non FLIR branded MPX /

CVI recorders, ensure the non MPX / CVI recorders follow the offi-

cial HD analog protocol standards for CVI / AHD / TVI. If the re-

corder does not follow the official HD analog protocol standards,

we cannot guarantee interoperability between the camera

and the HD analog recorder.

5.1 Installing Batteries

The UTC controller requires two AAA alkaline batteries for power.

CAUTION

• Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended

type.

• Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries

(standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries

of different capacities.

• If you do not plan to use the UTC controller with batteries for a

month or more, remove the batteries. Batteries can leak chemi-

cals that can destroy electronics parts.

WARNING

Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly in accordance with

local laws.

To install batteries:

1. Remove the battery compartment cover.

2. Insert two fresh AAA alkaline batteries in the battery compart-

ment. Ensure that you face the positive and negative ends of the

batteries in the right direction as marked in the battery

compartment.

3. Replace the battery compartment cover.

5.2 Connecting the UTC Controller

To connect the UTC controller to a DVR:

1. Connect the male BNC connector on the UTC controller to a vid-

eo input on your DVR.

2. Connect the female BNC connector on the UTC controller to a

single run of RG59 / RG6 coaxial cable. See 3.1 Video Cabling,

page 6 for details on extension cable options.

3. Connect the other end of the BNC connector on the coaxial cable

to the camera’s video BNC connector.

16 to change the camera’s video format. After changing the

camera’s video format to be compatible with your analog re-

corder, disconnect the UTC controller and directly connect the

extension cable from the camera to a video input on your DVR.

5.3 LED Indicators

The following table details the LED indicators that flash and its mean-

ing when using the UTC controller.
