Typical CCD Characteristics
The following effects may be observed on the video monitor screen do not indicate any fault of
the CCD camera, but do associate with typical CCD characteristics.
Due to an excessive bright object such as electric lighting, sun or strong reflection,
vertical smear may be visible on the video monitor screen. This phenomenon is related to
the characteristics of Interline Transfer System employed in the CCD.
When the CCD camera shoots a dark object at high temperature, fixed pattern noise
(dots) may be appeared over the entire area of the video monitor screen.

a) Input of External HD/VD signal (Factory Pre-set)
Video output of CV-M90(rev.c) in factory pre-set mode can be
synchronized with external HD/VD signal (4.0Vp-p ± 2.0V at 75
terminated) .
For TTL level input (2.0 ~ 5.0V), set SW301 switch located on
PK8088 board to OFF position.
For more information, see ”5. Pin Assignment” and ”7. Mode Set-
ting”.
b) Output of Internal HD/VD signal
To output internal HD/VD signal (4.0Vp-p at 75
Non-terminated),
make the jumpers JP306/309 to short-circuited and JP305/308 to
open-circuited.
Each jumpers are located on PK8088 board inside the camera.
For more information, see ”5. Pin Assignment” and ”7. Mode
Setting”.
Note: Internal HD/VD signal output is 75 W impedance.
External trigger mode of CV-M90(rev.C) allows 3 different driving
modes, as follows.
a) Random Trigger Mode – 1 (Asynchronous reset/Exposure control by ext. trigger
and 7- step fixed shutter)
b) Random Trigger Mode – 2 (Exposure control by ext. trlgger and Ext. VD signal)
c) Long Time Exposure Mode (Exposure control by ext. VD signal)
Followings are the details of each triggering modes.
6. Functions and Operations
6-1. Input/Output of HD/VD signal
- 7 -
6-2. External Trigger Mode
a) Random Trigger Mode - 1
In Random Trigger Mode-1 (only in Non-interlaced, field
accumulation mode), CV-M90(rev.c) starts an exposure
(=accumulation of electric charge) at the falling edge of ext.
trigger pulse and ends the exposure according to the time set by
shutter (7-step fixed shutter speed), and outputs the accumulated
signal in one-field (odd-field in EIA and even-field in CCIR).
In this mode 1, EEN (Exposure ENable) pulse and WEN (Write
ENable) pulse are generated and output from the camera.
EEN pulse (4.0Vp-p at 75
non-terminated) indicates the
exposure time set by shutter, and it is useful to control the
duration time of lighting such as stroboscopic-light and harogen-
light. EEN pulse is output from pin no.4 of 6P Multi connector.
(See 5. Pin Assignment)
WEN pulse (4.0Vp-p at 75
non-terminated) is indicating the
duration time of effective video signal output, and it is useful to
set a timing with frame gabber and other image processing
equipment. WEN pulse is output from pin no.6 of 6P Multi
connector and pin no.7 of D-SUB 9pin connector. (See 5. Pin
Assignment)
To use random trigger mode, make following procedure.
1. Set SW1-4 switch on rear panel at ON position, to change
shutter function into Ext. Trigger Shutter Mode.
2. Check SW301A switch if it is set at OFF position tor Field
accumulation mode.
SW301 switch is located on PK8088 board.
3. Set SW1-5 on rear panel at ON position, to change Scanning
system into Non-interlace mode.
4. Set SW1-1, SW1-2 and SW1-3 on rear panel for optimum
shutter speed selection.
5. Input ext. trigger pulse (TTL: 2.0V ~ 5.0V) at pin no.5 of 6P
Multi connector.
6. Refer to the following ”Timing Charts”, and also to ”Caution
on Random Trigger Mode-1” .
7. For more information, see ”5. Pin Assignment” and ”7. Mode
Setting”.
- 8 -
- 9 -
1. Random trigger mode-1 is effective only at Non-interlaced, field
accumulation mode.
2. 1H jitter max. may occur when ext. trigger and Int. HD signals are not
synchronized each other. Therefore, It is recommended to make phase-
synchronization between ext. trigger pulse and int. HD slgnal, in order to
eliminate such jitter.
3. Input terminal of ext. trigger is set at TTL, by factory pre-set.
Caution on Random Trigger Mode-1
b) Random Trigger Mode - 2
- 10 -
In this mode-2, the exposure time of shutter can be controlled
within a range of 1/77 ~ 1/10,000sec. by a duration between ext.
trigger pulse and ext. VD signal. CV-M90(rev.c) starts the
exposure (=accumulation of electric charge) at falling edge of
ext. triggerpulse and ends the exposure after input of ext. VD
signal. The accumulated signal can be output directly after the
exposure in field/frame accumulation mode by 2:1 interlaced
scanning mode and field accumulation mode by Non-interlace
mode.
To use this mode-2, make the following procedure.
1. Make jumpers JP301 located on PK8088 board short-
circuited.
2. Shutter speed must be set at 1/10,000sec. by SW1.
1) Set SW1-4 on rear panel at OFF position for Normal
Shutter mode.
2) Set SW1-1, SW1-2 and SW1-3 on rear panel at ON
position for 1/10,000sec. speed.
3. Set SW301-4 switch on PK8088 board for CCD accumulation
at optimum position either OFF for Field accum. mode or ON
for Frame accum. mode.
4. Set SW1-5 on rear panel switch for scanning system at
optimum position either OFF for 2:1 Interlace mode or ON
for Non-interlace mode.
5. Input ext. trigger pulse (TTL level: 2.0V ~ 5.0V) at pin no.5
oF 6P Multi connector, and input ext. VD signal (4.0Vp-p ±
2.0V at 75
terminated) at pin no.7 of 12P Multi connector.
Ext. VD signal must be input continuously and it has to be
synchronized with Ext. HD signal.
6. It is necessary to change the input-time of ext. trigger pulse
according to scanning mode, as follows.
- 2:1 Interface mode - > 2-time pulse inputs
- Non-interlace mode - > 1-time pulse input
7. Refer to the following ”Timing Charts”, and also to ”Caution
on Random Trigger Mode-2”.
8. For more information, see ”5. Pin Assignment” and ”7. Mode
Setting”.
- 11 -
1. As the Input of ext. VD signal must be given continuously to
synchronize with int. VD signal it is not possible to input ext. VD signal
”at random”.
2. Exposure-start may deiay up to 1H max., when the falling edge of ext.
trigger pulse is not synchronized with the falling edge of ext. HD signal.
Therefore, it is recommended to make phase-synchronization between ext.
trigger pulse and ext. HD signal.
3. Ext. trigger input has to be TTL level (2.0 ~ 5.0V).
4. If ext. HD/VD signal have TTL level (2.0V ~ 5.0V), set SW301-1and SW301-2
located on PK8088 board at OFF position. Refer to ”7. Mode Setting”.
Caution on Random Trigger Mode-2
c) Long Time Exposure Mode
- 12 -
In Long Time Exposure mode, the exposure time of shutter can
be controlled by a duration of ext. VD signal input.
CV-M90(rev.C) starts the exposure (=accumulation of electric
charge) after input of ext. VD signal, and ends the exposure
after the next input of ext. VD signal. The accumulated video
signal in one full frame (ODD/EVEN or EVEN/ODD) by 2:1
interlace mode can be output directly after every 2nd input of
ext. VD signal. Also the accumulated video signal in one field
(ODD or EVEN) either by 2:1 or Non-interlaced mode can be
output directly after every 2nd of input ext. VD signal.
To use Long time exposure mode, make the following procedure.
1. Make jumpers JP302 on PK8088 board short-circuited.
2. Set SW1-1, -2 and -3 on rear panel at OFF position.
3. Check SW1-4 on rear panel switch if it is set at OFF position
for normal shutter mode.
4. Set SW301 switch located on PK8088 board, for CCD
accumulation at optimum position either OFF for Field
accum. mode or ON for Frame accum. mode.
5. Set-SW1-5 on rear panel switch for scanning system at
optimum position either OFF for 2:1 Interlace mode or ON
for Non-interlace mode.
6. Input ext. VD signal (4.0Vp-p ± 2.0V at 75 Q terminated) at
pin no.7 of 12P Multi connector.
7. Timing of ext. VD signal in each accumulation mode has to
be set, as follow.
- 2:1 Interlace mode (Field accum. mode) : 1VD or more
- 2:1 Interlace mode (Frame accum. mode) : 2VD or Integral time of 2VD
- Non-interface made (Field occum. mode) : 2VD or more
Note:
1VD In 2:1 Interlace = 262.5H in EIA, 312.5H In CCIR
2VD in 2:1 Interlace = 525.0H in EIA, 625.0H in CCIR
2VD in Non-Interlace = 524.0H in EIA, 624.0H in CCIR
8. Refer to the following ”Timing Charts”, and also to ”Caution
on Long Time Exposure Mode”.
9. For more information, see ”5. Pin Assignment” and ”7. Mode
Setting”.
1. Theoretical exposure time of shutter in each TV standard is as follows.
EIA : 1/30sec.
− ∞− ∞
− ∞− ∞
− ∞
CCIR : 1/25sec
− ∞− ∞
− ∞− ∞
− ∞
However, It is recommended to moke exposure not more than 2sec. since
visible dark-current nolse may occur on video signal due to the long time
exposure on CCD Image sensor.
2. Do not Input Ext. VD signal at pln no. of
6P Multi connector.
