Introduction
The Pitco CPF-65 Compact Portable Filter is designed to
filter food and other sediment from the cooking oil used in
your deep fat fryer. The unit is portable, for convenient use.
If you do not filter regularly, the shortening or cooking oil
may become contaminated and break down. The Pitco
Portable Filter removes most microscopic particles,
moisture, and free fatty acids from the oil. By using the
Pitco CPF-65 Portable Filter regularly, you will produce
better-cooked, and better-tasting food. By extending the life
of your oil, the CPF-65 will pay for itself many times over.
The CPF-65 filter unit can be stored out of the way, and
rolls easily to wherever it is needed. The low profile allows
the unit to roll directly under the drain valve outlet extension
nipple on the fryer. This makes it easier to drain the fryer.
The inner area of the pan is free of clamps and brackets for
easy cleaning. The large filtering area assures fast filtering.
Introduction 1
Safety Notes
Warning!
Please read all of the instructions in this manual
before you attempt to operate your CPF-65 Pitco Filter.
To ensure that the unit is always used in a safe
manner, a copy of this brochure should be available at
all times. If the brochure is either lost or misplaced,
please contact the manufacturer for additional copies.
Warning!
When the filter is operating, the oil in the fryer may be
hotter than 375° (190°C). This hot oil can cause you to
be burned very badly. Do not let the hot oil touch your
skin or clothing. Always wear oil-proof insulated
gloves when filtering hot oil.
Warning!
The filter return hose assembly was designed with a
safety control switch to rinse the fry tank when
cleaning and to return clean filtered oil to the fry tank
after filtering. Added caution should be taken at all
times to ensure total safety to the operator and to
others in the area when using this assembly.
Warning!
Never jam the pump switch in the "on" position or
operate the unit while it is unattended.

4 Installation Pitco Frialator CPF-6 -Operating and Installation Instructions
Operating Instructions
Preparing the Filter
1.
Move the portable filter into position in front of the
fryer. See Fig. 4.
2.
Lift the motor box housing assembly. When the
assembly locks into the upright position, you will hear
a click. Check to see if the latching mechanism is
engaged before releasing the handle.
3.
When you use the filter, you will have to drain the oil
out of the fryer.
The end of the drain may be hot! Use insulated oil-proof
gloves when you attach the drain outlet extension nipple into
the drain valve (see Fig. 4). Beware of other parts of the fryer
and filter - may be hot
4.
Change the filter paper bag if it is dark or torn:
a. Remove the filter pickup assembly from the filter pan.
b. Remove the filter paper bag retainer clip, as shown in
Fig. 2.
c. Remove the round knurled knob from the bottom of the
filter
Remove the filter screen and filter bag away from the
inlet suction Tube.
d. Remove the old filter bag from the filter screen and
throw it away.
e. To assemble, slide the filter paper bag over the filter
screen until the holes are in line with each other. See
fig.3.
f. Use the knurled knob to attach the filter pickup
assembly to the filter suction tube. See Fig. 2.
Fold the filter bag over the end of the filter screen and
attach the filter bag clamp with the flat side face
down. See Fig. 2.
Place the filter pickup assembly in the filter pan. Once
the filter pickup assembly has been properly located,
the assembly will sit flat on the bottom of the pan to
ensure proper filtering. See Fig. 9.
Operating instructions
5
Warning
!
5.
Take the free end of the suction tube and connect it to the
lower quick-disconnect ring on the pump unit
6.
Set the nozzle of the filter hose in the holding ring on the right
hand side of the motor housing. See Fig. 4. Connect the other
end of the filter hose to the upper quick-disconnect ring on the
motor unit.
7.
Plug the wire on the hose into the socket on the motor
housing.
See Fig. 4. Twist the plug clockwise to lock.
8.
Plug in the power cord for the portable filter. Turn on the
power switch on the back of the unit. If you are using liquid
shortening, you can now use the CPF-65 for filtering. If you
are
using solid shortening, turn on the power switch and leave
the
CPF-65 plugged in for 3 to 5 minutes before you start to filter.
This will give the heaters some time to melt the solid shorten-
ing in the filter pan, pump, and the filter hose.
9.
Locate the filter and the filter catch basket under the drain
valve outlet nipple. See Fig. 4.
Filtering
Instructions
1. Set up the unit in front of the fryer you want to filter.
Change the filter paper if it is dark or torn. For instructions,
see the last section.
The CPF-65 can hold 65 pounds of oil or shortening. Do not
try to filter a fryer with a capacity of more than 65 pounds. If
you do this, the shortening will overflow onto the floor. Do
not fill the filter pan above the line on the side of the pan.
2. Add precoat
a. Sprinkle precoat powder into the bottom of the filter
pan. If you are filtering a 45 Ib. unit use 12 oz. of
precoat When filtering a 65 Ib. unit, use 16 oz.
6 Operating instructions Pitco Frialator CPF-65 - Operating and Installation Instructions
