2. General
If your system is a BME, it has only one pulley head:
• BME pulley head.
For the dismantling of the BME pulley head, go to
page 5 Dismantling of pulley head for BME.
For the assembly of the BME pulley head, go to

If your system is a BMET, it has two pulley heads:
• BME pulley head and
• BMT pulley head.

3. Dismantling of pulley head for BME
Note: To prevent water from mixing with the oil
when the motor-driven pump is removed, proceed
as follows:
• Pull the pulley head with pump out of the sleeve.
• Loosen the pump from the pulley head.
• Proceed as shown in the following illustrations.

Slacken and remove the six screws (M6 x 30) holding the
front cover.

Loosen the cover by means of dismantling bolts inserted in
the additional holes in the cover.

Remove the cover.
Note: Oil will run out when the cover is removed.

rear cover.

Normally, the bearing can be removed by hand as the
bearing fits loosely on the stationary shaft.

Take care not to damage the carbon of the shaft seal when
the stationary shaft is lifted free of the rotating shaft.

Remove the rotating shaft seal half (left-hand thread).
Use the following tools:
• SV 10 17 – holder for rotating shaft.
• ID 34 07 – hook spanner.

Remove the pins from the thrust bearing.
Use the following tools:
• 2 screwdrivers as shown in fig. 25 or
• SV 03 27 – puller as shown in fig. 26.

The driver pin for the shaft seal should only be removed if it
is defective and a new shaft seal is to be fitted.
Usually, the driver pin is intact.

4. Assembly of pulley head for BME
GRUNDFOS recommends to replace all gaskets.
The parts required are included in Service kit No.
14 51 77.
Use water/soapy water when fitting the gaskets and
rubber parts, however, not for parts in contact with
oil or bearings.

Wind tape round the spline to protect the shaft seal O-ring.
Use the following tool:
• SV 10 17 – holder for rotating shaft.

Use the following tools:
• ID 34 07 – hook spanners.

Fit the driver pin and the shaft seal. The driver pin should
only be replaced if necessary.

During assembly, it must be ensured that the carbon is
never pressed all the way down against the edge of the
steel but just so far that “X” is between 0.5 and 1.0 mm.
Check that the hole in the shaft seal covers the driver pin.

When fitting the thrust bearing, note that the oval holes
(marked with arrows) must be positioned with 90° varia-
tion.

Fit the pins in the thrust bearing. The pins must fit easily
into the holes.
Check that the bearing can be moved in all directions.

Do not remove the axial bearing unless it is defective.

Fit paper in the pulley head so that the ball bearing does
not fall against the second fit.
Press the ball bearing past the first fit of the pulley.

Press the ball bearing home in the second fit of the pulley.

Lubricate the V-ring with oil.

Fit the ball bearing and push it against the shoulder. There
is a loose fit between the shaft and the bearing.
Note: Place the V-ring on the recess.

Note: The half hole in the spacing pipe must fit over the
hole in the stationary shaft marked with an arrow, as other-
wise the lubricating oil system will be blocked.
