•Checkthedisplayontheremotecontrol.Ifitreads‘OFF’,aimtheremotecontroltowardthereceiver
andpressthecentrebuttonontheremotetoswitchitto‘ON’.
Whenthedisplayshows‘ON’,theSETTEMPwillbedisplayedbelowtheROOMTEMP.Forthe
burnertolight,theSETTEMPmustbehigherthantheROOMTEMP.RaisetheSETTEMP,if
necessary,bypressingtherighthandbutton.
•TurnthePILOTcontrolfullyanticlockwisetothe‘ON’positionandthefirewilllightatfullheat.
Theremaybeastrongsmellthefirsttimethelogsarefiredbutthiswillsoondisappear.
•Aftertenminutes,settheHI-LOcontroltogivethedesiredheatoutput.
•Atthisstageyoumayturnonthefanbyrotatingthefanswitchineitherdirection.Theswitchgives
threespeedsandhasan‘OFF’position.NOTE.Thefanisalsocontrolledbyaninternalswitchwhich
willnotpermitittostartuntilthefireishot(abouttenminutesfromcoldonhighfire)andwillkeepit
runningforsometimeafterthefiregoesout.
PROGRAMMINGTHEREMOTECONTROL
Thecontrolcanbeprogrammedtooperatetheheateratadesiredlatertime.Thecontrolsforthisare
under the sliding cover below the display. Programming instructions are in the instruction sheet
suppliedwiththeremotecontrol.
ECSMODELS:-
Thesehavearemotecontrolhandpieceandthermostatconnectingterminalsontherearoftheheater.
Ifthewallthermostatisnotfitted,asmallwirebridgingloopmustbefittedacrosstheseterminalsor
the heater will not light. Ifthe battery operated wall thermostat is fitted, it must be switched to
‘HEAT’(under the bottom hingedcover)and the SET temperature must be above the prevailing
ROOMtemperaturebeforetheheaterwilllight.TheSETtemperaturecanbealteredbypressingthe+
and–buttonsalongsidethedisplay.Ifthereisnodisplay,checkthethermostatbatteries(3xAA
alkaline).
• Toavoidtheriskofbackburning,donotattempttore-lightthefirelessthanthreeminutesafterithas
beenextinguished.
•Checkthatthepowerswitchatthewallis‘ON’andpressthetoproundhandpiecebuttonwhileaiming
thehandpiecetowardthereceiverontherightfrontcornerofthepedestalfoot.Theredindicatorlight
onthehandpieceshouldlightandtheredindicatorlightalongsidethereceiver(onthepedestalfoot)
should lightinresponse andremain alight after thehandpiece buttonis released. If the handpiece
indicatordoesnotlightup,checkthehandpiecebatteries(4xAAAcells).Ifthereceiverindicatordoes
notlight,pressthesmallbuttonalongsidethereceiver(onthepedestalfoot).Ifthereceiverindicator
stilldoesnotlight,pressthered‘RESET’buttononthebackoftheheaterandtryagain.
•Assoonasthereceiverindicatorlights,athirtysecondignitionsequencebegins.Afteraboutthree
secondsfromthestart,therewillbeacontinuoussparkatthepilotelectrodewhichwilllightthepilot.
Whenstartingforthefirsttime,therewillprobablybeairinthepilotlinesupplypipe,soignitionmay
notoccurimmediately.Ifithasnotlitwithinaboutthirtyseconds,thesparkwillcease.Inthisevent,
presstheredRESETbuttononthebackoftheheaterandtrylightingagain.Ifyouneedtopressthe
resetagain,waitatleasttensecondsbeforedoingthis.Ifthereisalotofairinthepipeline,itmaybe
necessarytorepeatthisresetprocedureseveraltimes.
•Whenthepilotlights,theECSsystemshutsdowntheignitionsparkandthenturnsonthegassupply
tothemainburner.Thiswilligniteshortlyafter.
•Oncethemainburnerisalight,thesizeoftheflamecanbeadjustedusingthetoprockerswitchonthe
handpiece.Pressing+increasestheflame.Notethattheresponsetoflameadjustmentmaytakeabout
twentyseconds,sotherockerswitchshouldbehelddownuntiltheflamereachesthedesiredheight.
•Whiletheheaterisbeingswitchedonandoffbythewallthermostat(iffitted),theredindicatorlight
besidethereceiverwillremainalight,showingthattheheaterisreadytolightagainwhentheroom
temperaturefalls.Theflamewilllightatitslastheightsetting.Thepilotlightextinguisheseachtime
theflameextinguishes.
•Ifthemainssupplytotheheaterisswitchedoff,thefirewilllightnexttimeattheLOWflamesetting,
butifthemainssupplyisuninterrupted,theflamewilllightagainatitslastsetting.
